Timecrimes was a watch I had years ago, and it's still so memorable. It's like Primer but 70% less dense in what it's trying to do. The more straightforward approach on what it is made to encompass makes it a less demanding watch, and also allows you to really soak in the atmosphere a lot better.

@borislugosi542 ай бұрын
@@Belgand Bill and Ted planning on doing something later to allow them to do something in their present is pretty simple and ridiculous, although comical. Everything isn't happening after in Time Crimes, the events are happening before, during and after we start with the protagonist sitting in his lawn chair. Granted, it's more of a mystery thriller than a deep dive into time travel, but I'd say it's got a tight script that effectively and neatly ties together. Saying the film has the worst time travel paradox seen in any media seems greatly exaggerated considering the amount of flimsy logic seen in most attempts at it. I'll do 5, each from a different country. Quick Honorable Mention: "Mystics in Bali" from Indonesia. It's not on the actual list because it's.... not that good? But it's entertaining, and it features a monster most of you have probably never heard of. 5. "La Llorona" from Guatemala. This isn't that "Conjuring"-universe crap or anything; this is a modern take on the Weeping Woman legend. It's a really neat version of the tale. 4. "The Eye" from Hong Kong. Guys. Guys... I love this movie SO MUCH. I want a physical copy but I can't find one! This is an "I see dead people" movie with a nice twist. It's sad, hopeful, tragic... Watch it! 3. "One Cut of the Dead" from Japan. A "found footage", one take, Japanese zombie comedy. 2. "We Are What We Are" from Mexico. Come for the cannibalism, stay for the study of what happens when a family loses its most critical member. 1. "The House From the End of Time" from Venezuela. It's a haunted house story. Or is it?

I would add: *Sweet Home (1989)* it is Kiyoshi Kurosawa's first film, and it is as if 1970's/80's Dario Argento made a movie in Japan. Dick Smith did the FX. *Night Watch (1984)* has a 21 year old Jaime Lannister. Really good suspense/horror from from Norway, as well as *Insomnia* and *The Vanishing* (the originals, not the remakes) *Nade Conoce Nadie* (Nobody Knows Anyone) and *Abre Los Ojos* (Open Your Eyes) are some really nice Spanish suspense films. There is also *Los Sin Nombres* (The Nameless) that gets pretty creepy.

Watching genre films from other cultures is always an interesting experience. You're never 100% sure if the thing you didn't understand was culturally important, a trope or meme that native viewers would get, or just insanity that nobody would understand. One of my favorite things to watch are light Korean romances, and there are more than a few times I have to pause to look something up to make sure I'm not insane. In such a shorthand genre as horror I imagine that is even more prevalent.
