5 overpowered Knight-Enchanter builds for Dragon Age Inquisition!

First off, Fire Mine does work with your Barrier. Even from your Fade Shield generated Barrier. What does not work is the upgraded Fire Mine(upgraded with Flaming Array). That will not take away a portion of your Barrier to fuel your spells, therefore the damage bonus will not be applied. The Searing Glyph upgrade however does work and it works extremely well. You can see the examples here: 1:35 Generating Barrier with damage, then using that Barrier to fuel Fire Mine 2:32 Putting up normal Barrier then using it to fuel Fire Mine. And here is the example of the Flaming Array not working with Chaotic Focus: 12:24. I hope this helps! :)

Sadly, flaming array has quite a few bugs... Luckily, the "bugs be gone" mod fixes a couple of these, including this issue with chaotic focus. The lack of flanking dmg bonus however is still a prevalent issue (though at least you're not doing 1 dmg anymore) afaik, as well as big enemies not triggering the mines sometimes.

@@matthewwoods2638 I always use crafted gear for my builds, except when I want to demonstrate their viability with less than optimal gear. :) I use the Superior Battlemage Armor for all of these builds, except the Barrier/Blaster build where I use the Battlemage Robe(non-crafted) to show that I can easily survive because of my plentiful Barrier. I also use the Skin that Stalks(non-schematics, the actual armor)for demonstrating the Glacier builds durability with the revenants and the qunari in the Trespasser. :)

Fun builds. Think I liked the trapper build the most. Considering how often you end up surrounded with frozen enemies though, I think the build could use a detonator of some kind to top off that burst damage. Energy barrage with energy storm would synergies with static cage. If you’re looking to capitalize further on using barrier for damage fuel, immolate would be a great option too, especially if you’re looking for big numbers. Or if you’re looking to bring back a little more survivability, mind blast could provide barrier boost (though it hardly needs it). Anyhow, liked seeing your KEs

Yes! Finally a knight-enchanter top five builds! I'll try this as soon as I've completed my playthrough as a divine avenger build from your video. You know it's pretty funny how redditors in the dragon age subreddit thinks that this game has no build variety when you can come up with at least 5 builds from just one specialization. Guess they haven't seen your video channel then. Their loss.

Haha! That is indeed wired, since the KE is literally the most flexible mage specialization. :) The Rift Mage and the Necro are both good at CC and single target damage(Necro being better at single target damage and Rift Mage being better at CC), but the KE beats them in both support and endurance, while being capable of doing similar amount of damage and CC.

I'm doing a new challenge. Trying to use Sigil of Gamordian Stormrider. Settled on KE as the spec. It runs barrier, chain lighting, E barrage, lightning cage, dispel, mind blast, aegis of rift, and fade step. Damage is incredible. About triple what you see in mixed element makes. Need to pair with Cassandra (heavens wrath and weakness passive) and Cole (2 sleep abilities). For nightmare and weakness combos (spirit damage from combos not reduced by sigil). Spirit damage that bounces off aegis of the rift is also not reduced by the sigil.

Knight Enchanter is a lot stronger if you use the bug that gives you free spells. Basically, immediately after hitting an enemy with [trigger spell], you will have approximately two seconds to cast [free spell] without extra cost or cooldown. [Trigger spells] Immolate Flashfire Stonefist Spirit Mark Walking Bomb Spirit Blade [Free spells] Fire Mine (Searing Glyph) Ice Mine (Brittle Glyph) Static Cage Energy Barrage With this method, you can cast up to four Energy Barrage projectiles in a row.

IMO KE is the 2nd tankiest character in DAI just i little bit below Champion (really2 little bit, champion has Walking fortress, KE has fade cloak, champ has unlimited guard, KE has unlimited Barrier, champion has reflect damage ability, KE also has... champion has many resistance abilities, KE also has).. IMO The tankiest character in DAI : 1. Champion 1A. KE 2. Templar (a little bit far below Champ and KE IMO) 3. Reaver (also far below templar)

What master work would you recommend for me to use on the blade for the sword focused build? Also I notice you went for the defence focused sword upgrade would it not be better to use the offensive one so that any build up you expend instantly allowing you to use FC to constantly be at max longevity? What spells would be good to make it more offensive? Because I notice there is one slot there free in your sword build. Also I'm not running the inquisitor perk. So I've replaced that slot with dispel to add 25% damage boost to my sword when striking demons and other shit dispel effects. Thanks

Sadly, no. I never had the time for a full build video. But since the main goal of the build is the non-stop invulnerability, I recommend getting Fade Cloak, Spirit Blade, Flashpoint and Clean Burn ASAP. They are the cornerstones of the build. As for equipment, other than the craftable Superior Battlemage armor, I definitely recommend mana-regenerating and cooldown reducing stuff. :)

Amplifying Blade is good if you love to spam Energy Barrage a lot, since that way it can always stay at high damage. If you don't plan to spam it, then it just does not worth it.

Trap enchanter; thought it crossdresses to lure the mobs into a trap, kekekekekeke. Seriously though, it’s so good to see newer and more recent videos and gameplay guides etc. for IMHO an awesome game like this (Dragon Age Inquisition). I played 60 hours of this game at least (on my warrior) and barely scratched the surface of it (yet I really enjoyed my time playing the game). Now I’m thinking of going back to the game, this time as a mage (coz of Knight-enchanter spec thst really picks my interest thabks to it’s melee & magic hybrid gameplay). PS! In my first play session as a warrior, I had found 2-3 heavy-armor looking mage armor in the game. Yes; actually, with no mods etc. these armor looked like heavy armor by default. I ofcourse equipped em on my characters. I just hope I can retrace my steps again and get those armor back, this time for my main character. Anyways, thx again and thumbs-up!

Every sword is restricted to warriors. What I use is actually a staff called the Blade of Tidarion. It looks like a sword, plays like a sword but it is a staff. You can get it if you have the Trespasser dlc and complete the Stop War Between Nevarra and Tevinter War Table mission with Josephine.

Barrier/Blaster? Whatever I found on my character actually. I think it was a non-crafted Battlemage armor that you get after killing one of the high dragons. This is to show that you really don't need super powerful gear for that build to work. :)

Your vids helped me get through playing a rogue on my first play through on hard. Playing a mage now on hard with 3 trials on and having a tough time. Could you recommend a high DPS mage that can stand back a bit with a staff, some in and out is fine. I'm older and not very quick anymore at combos, etc. I tried following your The Elementalist: The "Pre-Skyhold" build. Some of the mobs are ridiculously hard though and wipe my team and or it takes 10 minutes to take out a group. I have pretty damn bad gear but the game has barely even given me any accessories yet. Thanks!

The main things you need to consider with Trials, is that you will have some difficulty spikes in most battles. This is because of the Walk Softly trial and Even Ground. Even ground will place everyone at your level, so you can never over level. This is pretty hard if you plan to farm for experience. Walk Softly is even worse. Enemies can have all kinds of ridiculous defenses like extremely massive guard or rejuvenating Barrier. With this trial on, you must use Dispel for mages with Rejuvenating Barrier! Guard Smasher passive is also a must have for your warrior party members. Trials are no joke, so if you are having a hard time, that is because they are designed that way. :)

Here is a comment I wrote to someone who also had a similar question: "Equipment is only relevant if we are talking about damage, so in this case it's mostly just two builds. For equipment, I recommend you check out my Frost/Fire Crusader build video. You will find detailed descriptions on all pieces and on where to find them. That equipment list there works well for all of these builds, but only really needed for the Frost/Fire Crusader and the Trap-Enchanter. The other builds work, regardless of equipment - evidenced by the fact that I literally just threw on them whatever looked good or whatever I found in my inventory laying around. " So basically, these builds work(except the two that depends on damage) regardless of equipment. As I said, you can check out my Frost/Fire Crusader video about the detailed description on the schematics and on where to find them. But here is the quick list for the best(or my personal favorite) mage gear schematics: Superior Battlemage Armor schematics with the Battlemage Armor arms and legs - Hissing Wastes Merchant with the Short List perk Superior Battlemage Cowl or if you go for crit damage then the Mask of the Grand Duchess - Avvar Merchant in the JoH dlc and the mask is a reward if you publicly expose Florianne The Blade of Tidarion schematics - Reward for the War Table quest "Stop the war between Nevarra and Teviner" if you complete it with Josephine and you have the Trespasser dlc. :)

Not sure yet. It is hard to create 5 overpowered build for each spec, because some of the specs are really not that powerful. Like the Templar for example. I don't think I could come up with 5 build that I would classify as overpowered. Sure you can play around with WoH+Spell Purge, but that is just one build. What about the other 4, right? Still, I don't know maybe I could, haha. Not sure yet. :) Masterworks and equipment are always up to personal choice. Everything works with these builds, but there are items/fade-touched materials which can make them god-like. For example, the TrapEnchanter or the Frost/Fire Crusader are especially powerful with Walking Bomb or Targets Explode masterwork on their items. The Sword-Knight is even more durable if you pick Walking Fortress or Fade Cloak as your masterwork. The Barrier/Blaster can benefit greatly from the Sigil of Lyrium and it can use a fully upgraded Regeneration Potion with the aoe heal effect and the Healing Mist grenade to be the most dedicated support build. So as I said, they have their "best in slot" items and masterworks, but I created these build in a way where they can work with anything. :)

Not sure what you mean. I do lose mana when the blade actually hits a target - check it at 4:22. When I hit a target and not lose mana, that is because of the Flashpoint passive(example at 4:38). Blizzard with the Winter Winds upgrade no longer drains your mana. The rest is fast mana regen from equipment and passive skills: Rejuvenating Barrier +35% mana regen Amulet of Renewal +50% mana regen Combat Clarity 50% mana regen I have a total of 200 Mana, and Spirit Blade only costs 10 mana, which I can regenerate back in less than a second this way. :)

Stat priority is usually either Magic or Willpower(Magic for offensive builds WP for defensive builds). You can also forget Magic and WP and just boost your Critical Damage and Critical Chance if you pick one of the damager characters.

I'm currently running a Rogue Assassin, and after watching your 5 overpowerd Assassins builds video I've been trying to piece together what the build orders would be pre and post Skyhold specialization, and early, mid, and late game re-spec-ing.

Usually I don’t, because once you know the skills the build is relying on, all you have to do is prioritize the ones that you personally feel like you need at that certain level where you are at. For example with the KE, it is smart to get to the Fade Shield passive asap, since that is what will provide you Barrier based on your damage. But if you feel like you need help with leveling, let me know which build you are going for and I will be happy to help you out by telling you what order I would pick the skills. :)

It’s mostly whatever you personally prefer. With the Trap and the Frost/Fire it’s Frost base and Fire rune. But my favorite is Frost or Fire base and Lightning rune since the lightning will give the shocked effect which will reduce enemy resistances by 20%. :)

@@kprk4102 I never use critical crafting, since it is much weaker than using a masterwork that gives you on hit skills/spells. Walking Bomb in my opinion, is the best masterwork for damage. If a Fire Mine procs it, we are talking about tens of thousands of spirit damage. So it is almost always on my characters.

As I wrote it in the video, picking the Enduring Cloak upgrade and using Spirit Sword a lot with the Clean Burn passive will lengthen its duration and reduce its cooldown so much that you can have the Cloak last longer than its recharge time. This allows you to use the Cloak infinitely(as long as you have mana). :)

Actually, I think the highest damage(crowd damage) belongs the Trapper. But to answer your question: as I always say, all mage spec has the same potential for damage and cc. KE simply solves the survivability problem as well. Rift mage is better at cc, and the Necro has a slight edge with damage because they can detonate the Walking Bomb masterworks. :)

You increase it by charging it up with spells. Energy Barrage is the best. Other than that, only with the Sigil of the Arcane Horror(+10%), but that reduces every other damage by 50%.

I have AI builds for Dorian. :) Weather its op or not, it is hard to tell. They are excellent cc builds, which is pretty much the best you can have with Dorian's AI.

nice builds showing equipement to the builds would have been nice , since different build require different equipement i have a question for a dps mage is building items with dex is better than magic and focusing on crit chance / crit dmg since now we have cloth that add dex so battle mage armor can reach 46/47 dex

Equipment is only relevant if we are talking about damage, so in this case it's mostly just two builds. For equipment, I recommend you check out my Frost/Fire Crusader build video. You will find detailed descriptions on all pieces and on where to find them. That equipment list works well for all of these builds, but only really needed for the Frost/Fire Crusader and the Trap-Enchanter. The other builds work, regardless of equipment - evidenced by the fact that I literally just threw on them whatever looked good or whatever I found in my inventory laying around. To your question: depends. I prefer using Dex with Rogues, since they get a direct Attack bonus as well as Critical Damage. With Mages, you usually use Crit Damage if you go with the Ring of Doubt. For example Fire Mines with the Flaming Array upgrade can produce some insane crit damage if you are dropping them on the ground from Stealth. Personally, I go for Magic to boost my attack(and Barrier Damage) and some Crit Chance to have some crits every now and then(Willpower also works, but then you get Magic Resistance instead of Barrier Damage bonus). I usually don't go higher than 30-35% crit chance though, but Magic? I go as high as I can, up to 110 or higher if possible with my equipment and build. :)

@@carmonaprime6297 Generation is based on your damage, so you need to deal more damage for it to generate faster. This is why high damage KEs don't even need the Barrier spell. Just generate them with casting offensive spells(like the Frost-Fire Crusader build I made - I have a 30 min build video about it). Decay speed can be lessened with the Energetic Defense and the Knight-Protector passives. And then of course there is Fade Cloak which makes Barrier redundant, because with a melee focused build, you can have it last longer than its cooldown(i.e. Sword-Knight build).

@@carmonaprime6297 Magic. It increases attack, and Barrier damage. Increasing attack just increases attack, and increasing Willpower increases attack and Magic Res, so Magic is the best if you are looking for damage.

Yes, but don’t be reckless. :) The Trapper is a bit more tactical, because of the delay when it comes to explosions(plus Fire Mine actually consumes almost half of your Barrier), so watch your Barrier. In terms of damage on Bosses though… the Trapper can actually deal more damage on them than the Crusader.

Spirit Blade is considered a spell. That is why it works so well for the Sword-Knight to use Fade Cloak indefinitely or with the Barrier/Blaster to put up Barrier constantly. With each swing with the Clean Burn passive from the Inferno tree, it will reduce your cooldowns with 1 sec. :)

there is also a passive in the storm class that reduces cooldown by 1 for each normal attack and the sword looks like a normal attack in it repetedness 😅

@@halaali1941 That passive is called Gathering Storm and it is bugged, sadly. It doesn’t reduce the cooldowns at all. It may be possible that some people have it working, but I have the latest patch and still, I don’t get any cooldown reduction from it.

@@kingkushezio2581 Ah, I see! The icon that says "Alt" above it, right? The symbol that looks similar to the Stonefist skill? That is your "Call Mount" skill in the main game. In the Trespasser dlc it changes into something called "Anchor Discharge". You have no mounts in that dlc anymore, and your anchor is acting up, giving you a new skill that you can use with the same button which would call your horse normally. First, this skill gives you brief invulnerability and illuminates dark areas, then it starts to hurt enemies when you activate it, and at the end of the dlc, it turns into a ticking time bomb that you have to release whenever your focus is fully charged, otherwise you will explode. It's not a mod, it's part of the Trespasser dlc. :)
