Do you have to start from each trailhead for the last 3 peaks? I usually do those in a loop. Kwaay Paay 1st, then cross the river and go up to the saddle, turn left and hit South Fortuna. Then continue onto the downhill rock scramble and wooden beams on the other side. From there, the trail continues around the base and links up with the same saddle you passed earlier. Turn left again to head up to North Fortuna. You have the option of a final challenge. You can backtrack to the saddle and go back down that way, or continue down North Fortuna's trail which eventually becomes parallel to the 52 freeway. At this point you are greeted with rolling hills of rock. Not for the feint of heart, but a great challenge. Somewhere between 10-11 miles. Starting early helps heaps! Beat the sun, before the sun beats you. A philosophy I've live by hiking here in Sandy Eggo.

Should have done the North and South Fortuna peaks on the same hike, much much easier and time friendly. They are connect by a short saddle that is not that steep or long.

Well done! I hike there usually once a week since it's so nearby. Next time you do it the only place year really need to drive is from Pyles Peak to The Mission Dam area. From there you can hike Kwaay Paay, North and South Fortuna. I just subbed and watched your Whitney Mountaineer's Route, WOW! That's like doing 20 -5 peak challenges!

Great video. All those hikes I've done as they are literally in my backyard. (I live in Santee just off the 52Hwy/Mast Blvd exit.) Your latest JMT video is awesome. I really enjoyed it. I'm doing it in 2018 and have started making plans and buy the needed equipment. Any plans on doing it again? Do you live in SoCal? Thanks again.

Friendly advice. I found a bottle "coozie" on Amazon that I flip and place atop my smartwater bottles which go in my side pockets. They weigh an less than an ounce each. No piss warm water here.

Nice video man, we miss those trails. This is probably the best video on KZbin showcasing the 5 Peak challenge in MTRP. --JY

I'm watching this from my phone can't tell which pack you have. I fill my water bottle with half or about more than half full the night before. The film to the top the next day. The water stay cool. I do the same for water bladder too.

Oh is that what its called, SPS? Sweaty back syndrome? Anyway, I sweat a lot too, like excessive sweating mostly my head (forehead, scalp etc). Sometimes even when I'm just sitting down. It's super annoying. I'm overweight by 15-20 lbs but most people are and they don't sweat like I do. I know some people who are three times my size and they barely sweat unless they do intense exercise. It's embarrassing when people ask if I'm ok when I'm sweating and the temp is relatively cool. omg! Idk, i guess I'm one of the unlucky ones -_-

Was this pre or post Flex Capacitor? Nervous!!
@HikingNerd7 жыл бұрын
Post. It's a 25L frameless pack and suited for a different purpose than the Flex Capacitor. Primary uses will be day hikes and ideal condition overnight trips where minimal gear is needed. This is where gear starts to get more specific in its uses. The FC was never designed to fill this niche. I can run with the UD Fastpack with less bounce and the smaller volume makes more sense for a day trip. You could strip down the FC by removing the frame and hip belt and you'll end up with something you could totally use in similar situations but maybe not quite as well as the UD Fastpack.

Would you be willing to post a GPX file for the route?

I don't have it but you can use the trail map which is really easy to follow (the trail is very well marked). bit.ly/2X3u2IE
