@ra19 apr Start with drawing teeth and surfaces, watching youtube videos about the work you're about to do. You will do additional work for your labs and clinical work as you advance in the training but I assure you those will pay off. Go to any lab prepared for what you're about to do so you don't stress about the chain of work you're required to do. Then you can focus on shapes and sizes.

I'm in medical school & don't like the hard sciences. Guess what, once you're actually practicing, the sciences don't really mean a whole lot any more. Yes, you have to continue to learn throughout your career but you're not studying 14 hours a day. If you love helping people & interacting with people I say go for it. Will med school & residency suck? Yes, but the next 20-30 years you spend practicing may be amazing. Case in point, I used to be a lawyer, I loved studying law. It was the most interesting thing in the world to me but practicing law was very different from learning law & i didn't enjoy it. How much you like the formal education required to get into a profession will probably have little to do with how much you actually like the profession. In reality 4 years isn't that long to put up with something you don't really like doing.

I respect this man's opinion as he is more qualified to speak on this than me. In my opinion if you want to do something do not let this video discourage you as all the things he pointed out apply to my brother and he became a dentist. I am not saying these qualities are not needed but they are something you can work on. If you are not a people person for example start to become more social. All I am saying is do not give up on your dream because there is probably a dentist today who you were more capable at the same age.

#1 really depends i think, dentistry is after all a new discipline you learn & the artistic side can be acquired. As for #5 this applies for US & UK students mainly as in most of western Europe (France, Italy, Spain etc) there's little to no tuition fees so student debt isn't much of a problem. However it would take years here to start making good money as a dentist that's for sure.

Some dental specialties require a greater artistic skill than others. Prosthodontics and general dentists with an esthetics biased practice require the greatest artistic instincts. Endodontics is much more a technical skill based specialty. Oral surgery is more technical skill based. Oral Pathology requires a different skill set, as does Dental Public Health. Orthodontics and periodontics are somewhere in between. Pediatric Dentistry also requires a unique skill set. As far as financial success, it’s easy to research the highest paid specialties. The most successful dentists I know are not the best clinicians. What they possess are strong entrepreneur instincts.

Sophia N as a DDS who has wanted to be a dentist since age 6, no. It's not unhealthy to plan ahead at age 12. What you learn and how hard you push yourself as a precursor to college and developing background knowledge to get those good grades that will get you in and through dental school is important to start thinking about before you enroll as a freshman in high school. As a high schooler, focus on being an all around A and B student in all classes (not just science). Take those challenging classes and do as well as possible. This helps you not just get your foot in the door to go to a good undergrad program (dental schools look at where you earned college credits), it also prepares you to rock those hard classes in college and dental school.

As per your #1: Artistic = precise and detailed in your work... how does that even make sense? You could say that about almost any profession that takes skilled manual labor. You should change your #1 to being able to make a logically sound progression of your thoughts and then reconsider your choice of profession.
@Itsforeignbb5 жыл бұрын
dexterity is a high demand for this profession and having this ability will help via the arts, piano, sewing and etc ; paying attention to detail will come from activities like this, heavy handedness, is the worst case scenario ! You can eventually do both. I'm a dental hygienist student so I cant give you advice on that but I did the same thing as you. I'm 21 years old and I was a dental assistant from 18-21. It's possible, also my dentist said he knew people who did that. I personally don't want to be a dentist right now because of the huge debt you get yourself into. I only pay 40k for everything and I can pay it off sooner than 300-700k debt from dental school and buying your practice. Also other factors can decrease or increase the debt.
@isabeld.a.5886 жыл бұрын
Go to college and aim for dentistry. I wanted dentistry but got scared thinking about all those things people scare you with, such as debt, for example. I've been a hygienist for about 7 years and regret all of it. All this time I could have used to have completed dental school and now I would have been a dentist. Do not think about the debt. Any professional, no matter what kind, if he is good and truly loves what he does, he will thrive and have fulfillment. Hard work will pay your debt down the road. I've met countless dentists and I can tell you that: Those who are truly in love with what they do and work hard are very successful financially, whereas those who went in it just for the money without having a clue of what the profession meant tend to be unhappy. Btw, I'm a hygienist, who was a dental assistant for 6 years prior to hygiene graduation. Love the field, but not hygiene.

Spot Light, no they do not. Most dentists require you to be certified. My sibling is going into college year just like u and she is wondering the same thing. I suggest to focus on your studies, If you have more time in your education then go ahead and work somewhere close to ur college, Starbucks, Chick-fil-a etc.
@DentalPro20217 жыл бұрын
hey spot light! almost all dental students in the US make it through school by taking out a massive amount of loans. dental school is currently the most expensive profession to go to school for in the US, so even if you could hypothetically get a job in school, you wouldn't be able to pay your bills, because the cost of schooling is so high. if you are a US citizen/perm resident, you can qualify for federal loans for school, which have a lower interest rate than most other loans. if you don't qualify for those however, you can take out private loans from a bank to get you through school. thanks for watching and good luck!

soooooo it's me again. As I said in my earlier comment, I am about to enroll into college but instead of waiting a couple of years to study for the test, I would actually like to start studying now. I want to buy the DAT Destroyer or the Kaplan books and I know that I am not going to know much about the science sections because I haven't taken the classes yet but I still want to learn about everything as much as I can as soon as possible. I have started studying for the PAT section and I am already so much better than I was when I first started and I still have 3 years to study for the test. However, my question is do you think I should buy the books and start studying now or will they change the books so much that by the time my test starts coming near they would have changed so much and I would have to buy new books and start my studies all over again. By the way thank you to everyone who answered my earlier comment and helped me

@DentalPro20217 жыл бұрын
Nahom Werku I had that same question when I was going through my undergrad. I didn't go to a very prestigious school by any means and everything worked out for me. In my own personal opinion, I think that the school you go to will only take you so far in the application process. After that, you need to sell yourself to the schools you apply to based on what you have accomplished in school... regardless of where you attended. I hope that helps. You're awesome man! Good luck
@bryanromero72067 жыл бұрын
To add to DentalPro's comment: While prestige may play some sort of role, I wouldn't necessarily worry about that. However, I'd try and get all your pre-req's at a university rather than a community college. I had some of my pre-req's at a community college (to save money) but in the end, it always came up in my interviews. With dental school getting more competitive to get into, I'd try and eliminate the negative factors that are easy to avoid.

Ppl who shouldnt be dentist. 1.People who suffer from epilepsy. 2.People with motor problems of hand. 3.People whos hands shake many involuntarily. 4.Motor nerve problem. 5.People who have sitting in a dental chair.(spinal problem). 6.People with vision problem ,specifically people who sees only from one eye (gives 2d vision instead of 3d which causes lots of error),or people who have diplopia,etc etc.

Gaurav Pangtey does nystagmus count?? Mine is not that bad though. I can see very well, usually it starts affecting me when I read or look at things that need a lot of focusing for hours on end.

generally most of dental procedures takes maximum of 30 minutes to complete but in case of multiple tooth it may take more time(and if there is many patients u have to focus again in new patients , there is need of focusing of ur vision,however some dental extractions can take more than 30 minutes as because of difficulty of case and one need to focus ones eyes,you will have problems to learn new techniques in models because learning new things takes time however with practice u might get a better at it,see if u can manage it with breaks in between then that might be just a minor hassle(break of about 30 seconds),how ever if u cannot manage it then it might cause some problems ,because if u have lots of patients it might become an issue.You have to talk to a dental student or a councellor for it, in my opinion if u have this problem u might have some problems pursuing this career tread with caution.but plz consult ur concillor or somebody related to this field,he might give u a better advise as i cannot meet u and judge ur vision,by the way which country u belong?

perception &way of thinking vary from environment to environment, situation to situation, man to man like u.u choose dentistry only for money, fr getting rich.ha ha dnt u knw evry dentist is a doctor bt evry dr is nt a dentist.what's the moto of doctor I mean dentist? the institution where I m studying is clearly written "enter to learn & leave to serve " and it inspires me. & I dnt want to be a greedy doc.

I’m love science, is very artistic and has been doing creative work like jewelry and glass work and so for many years. But I’m honestly a bit shy/introvert by nature - so I’m a bit worried about that part 🙈
