I also like the dancing mania of 1518. People were dancing themself to death in Strasbourg because of dance mania, a form of mass hysteria. The towns leaders thought the cure was more dancing, so they built podia and let mucisians play in the streets. This however only increased the number of dancers, ending in allegedly 15 people dying each day of exhaustion and strokes. It lasted a full month.
@Salacious-Crumb
@Salacious-Crumb 4 ай бұрын
Im sure there have been lots more cases of dancing mania around Europe.. really would like to know what caused it ...Thinking the other day I swear there wasn't so many young fatties in England during the 90s .. then realised it was all the dancing (etc) we were doing 😂

Another plan that looked good on paper: a housing development that featured townhomes and apartments with decks over the water of a small, man-made lake in Virginia. Reality: In the steamy summer the non-moving water became a green slime filled, stinking mess that the home owners repeatedly had to pay to try and fix with air-bubblers, chemical treatment etc. They were thinking of filling it in when I moved away from the area.

This is hands down my favorite history show, I really like the images, the "music" is also very ominous, enhances ability to see your subject's perspective. This is more interesting than any "professional" doc I have ever seen. I like that you show the images for decently long, most docs show paintings for 1.5 seconds. One request is I think you should seek out more ancient paintings too. I think you could even do part 2 on previously done topics. 10/10.

The sack of Constantinople was so worthy of first spot. It was actually two plans that backfired with dire consequences. The crusade was intended to take back Jerusalem, but ended up destroying the Byzantine empire, paving the path for islam. And the plotting prince wanted power over the Byzantine empire, but ended up dying and ruining his country.

The battle of the crater honestly makes me so mad to this day, being African American I couldn’t imagine getting out of slavery and getting a chance to avenge my family and friends after weeks of rigorous training, only to hear “No you can’t fight because it might look bad if you die”. Numerically alone the Union could’ve won that battle, the tactics were there, the strategy was there, we could’ve had it.

The Soviets brought down the Third Reich singlehandedly? Even Stalin himself said the Soviets would not have prevailed without the United States, and of course the US was fighting on 3 continents separated by vast oceans, while the Soviets (the Nazis' ally) were geographically attached to Germany.

Yeah agree with what some have said below: unlike most others historic channels, I do absolutely like this one over the many videos I´ve viewed, because this keeps the same level of proficiency and quality, even improving it over the years! This unlike many others, who fall back on ranting, decreased amount of research and lower quality of that research, even downright to the point it´s just a vocalized Wikipedia page! And we know how good their ´history´ pages are. They do this with a single obvious intent: pump out ever more videos (and make money on them ofc) of ever lower quality. Also, it´s not the usual stuff you have here, there´s a billion vids and pages about WW2, all of them just repeating the other, or replacing facts for opinions, and than argue about the opinions. No, here I´m always pleasantly surprised, even as a hardcore history buff myself, unlike many other channels where it´s the other way around: the more I watch, the more I get this ´same old same old´ feeling. I mean, how many people include the Hussite Wars or even know about them? How many people know the name Tamerlane? How many people know Baghdad as anything but a bombed out ruin? I´m glad to see there´s a non-Western/Europe Centered channel in the pond here, even if I´m a European History Fanatic myself. I LOVE your Number 1 in this Top 5, because it´s my number One ´plans that Backfired Big Time´ personally!!!!! Thanks a lot mate! Thomas

The Scottish invasion of a country being wiped out by the plague was just stupid. The results should have been very obvious. Politics and bad generals were serious problems for the Union, from the start to the end of the war. A significant majority of America's best officers, at the start of the war, were southerners.

The results of the plague were obvious- the causes were not. They thought it was God punishing people for their "sinful ways". Knowledge of medical science was practically nil until centuries later.

@@GFSLombardo Everyone also knew that it was contagious. What you are saying is absolutely true but it was known to be a contagious disease, no matter the source. The Scots have not been the only ones to make the mistake of attacking another group that was weak from plague or small pox, etc., and then die from the same infection. It happened among natives on the west coast of what is now Canada. A dominate tribe that had ruled the coast for a long time got small pox from trading with the Europeans. Seeing them weak and unable to mount a defense, several tribes took the opportunity to band together and destroy the dominant tribe. All of those warriors went back to their tribes carrying small pox. It wiped out the natives on the west coast. It was taken to each and every tribe by their returning warriors. The natives had never seen or heard of small pox before they were hit with it. It took them a while to understand how contagious it was. Too late by then. I think the Scots should have seen what was coming as the plague had been around for a while and its contagious nature was well known. I am not shitting on the Scots but I think their leaders should have given a lot more thought to their actions. But the weakness of their enemy was just too appealing.

Also incorrect English had normandy for allmost a century In fact William the conquerers lineage shows he had some british ancestry. The 100 years war and the 30 years war were also fought entirely on French soil.

@@caractacusbrittania7442 don't forget the territories of the Angevins held by the Plantagenets. The King of England d at the height of their medieval power ruled territories from the Spanish to Scottish borders up the west coast of what is now France.

I find it a bit weak to call the sovjet union a backfired plan on Germany since its 2 different ideology’s, the German plan worked, it did had a negative effect on the nazis but that’s a different story.

Inherently fermanagh ideology was the same Expansionist,militaristic,and guns not butter. Ww1 saw germans anhialate African tribes in tanganyika And german east Africa. Ww1 and ww2 were basically the same war with a breather of 20 years in between. That is how hitler saw it.
