As stated in the video, these are the poorest regions in China, but it is comforting that the video itself has unveiled that one of these regions already attracts large corporations, and Lhasa, e.g., despite being constantly smeared by anti-China Western forces seeking to hit the central govt, is already connected to the rest of the country by a high-speed train line. Thus, it's to be expected that in the coming years, the conditions of the aforementioned regions will improve.

The term "poorest province in China" is solely determined by total annual GDP, which doesn’t account for population size. Interestingly, these provinces often have very low population densities, meaning that the average living standards across provinces are quite comparable. This also suggests that development in these regions can be remarkably efficient and rapid, as fewer resources are required to bring about significant improvements in quality of life. Unfortunately, cases in India and many developing countries are different, the poorest areas usually have the biggest population.

No, it's ranked by GDP per capita, and these five provinces have long had the lowest GDP per capita in China.

@@chankaan888 What are you trying to say? The western part of China is less populated because of the harsh conditions of existence. It is also more difficult to develop economically there and has always been the poorest part of China. The 5 provinces listed in the video: Guizhou, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai and Tibet are always in the bottom 5 of China's GDP per capita, so there is no problem with the title ‘China's 5 poorest provincial capitals’, not only do they have small populations, but also have the lowest GDP per capita.

@@panli-z4m You are wrong. Many incomes in China are difficult to be counted, such as farmers in Tibet. Their income includes government subsidies and the yaks they raise, which are difficult to count as GDP. There are also many individual businesses, which are also difficult to count. In fact, Tibetan farmers are much richer than the nobles and Gansu people. It is like the income of Xinjiang farmers is much higher than that of Sichuan farmers. China's real GDP has actually been suppressed. If it is counted according to US standards, China's total GDP would have exceeded that of the United States long ago.

Those cities are truly the poorest cities in China, don't only looking the skyline, those buildings are not meaning much, the income for average workers is lower, so is the living costs. You can have nice life here, but you cannot save much money here.

These so-called "poor" provinces and cities are the fastest-growing in China. For example, Guizhou's GDP has been growing at an annual rate of 14%, maintaining China's fastest economic growth rate for 11 consecutive years. The population of these provinces is about 30 to 40 million, and the total GDP of these provincial capitals is only about 50 billion US dollars, but the population of these cities is only 3 to 5 million.

@@chankaan888 Well, according to the latest figures, I was indeed wrong in saying that ‘the per capita GDP of these five provinces has always ranked in the bottom five of China's per capita GDP’, but there is no problem in saying that ‘these five provinces are the five poorest provinces in China’. The data is constantly changing, and traditionally these 5 provinces have been at the bottom of the list in China. According to 2023 data, the bottom 5 in terms of GDP per capita in China are Gansu, Heilongjiang, Guangxi, Guizhou and Jilin; the bottom 6 in terms of disposable income per capita in China are Gansu, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Tibet; it is clear that even in recent years, due to the changes in international and domestic situations, Gansu, Guizhou, Qinghai and Tibet are still the poorest regions in China. The only exception is Ningxia, which has been growing extremely fast in recent years, surpassing some provinces in terms of data, but this is mainly due to mineral development and national investment in green energy, and it is hard to say that Ningxia people's incomes really exceed those of the provinces it surpasses in terms of data. Also, I obviously don't know everything about China and there are little details that only Chinese people understand, such as Heilongjiang and Jilin, which are at the bottom of the GDP per capita rankings. These two provinces are part of Northeast China, which was a developed industrial region long before the founding of New China, and has been the most developed region in China for a long time after the founding of the country. The urbanisation rate here has long been well ahead of the average, and agriculture is mechanised and large. The GDP per capita figures are a bit distorted due to the massive population exodus. No one would really think that Heilongjiang and Jilin would be poorer than Guangxi and Guizhou.

This is a bit stupid. Comparing which city has the biggest GDP. But you didn't put population and costs of living there. Look at New York it has 2.5T $ GDP and has 8milion people. Look at Tokyo metropolitan are 2T $ and 37milion people living there. Who is richer. Well New York becuase of much higher GDP per Capita. But also New York is the most expensive city in the world. I think that this should have been done.

Fun fact: The Communist Party of China is actually prioritizing development efforts based on need. That means, if a province is much poorer than another one, it will get prioritized funding and development. There are big inequalities between provinces because of different historic and geological and other factors, but the Chinese government puts a lot of effort into closing the gaps and making the poor areas rich. Also, the citizens of poorer provinces often don't even have to pay for electricity, heat, and water besides some ridiculously low symbolic price (equal to few pennies per week). Same efforts to fight poverty and improve life of those in need can't be seen by Western regimes unfortunately. Especially not by the USA, Canada, South Korea, England, etc. where no one gives a damn about the poor
