5 Popular Luxury Items No Longer Worth It In 2024

Today I am talking about the five popular luxury items that's prices make my blood boil. These are the top five items I think are no longer worth it in 2024. All this being said, I never think Chanel is worth it, but I limited myself to one item per house for this reason.

Just FYI, small bags are actually more difficult to make than large bags and that may be why it’s more expensive. They can more easily get ruined in the production process (if it’s hand made) and takes smaller hands of an artisan to make.

I can feel your outrage and I completely agree. I had no idea Bottega was charging those insane prices. Chanel is also tacky to me too and it's sad because I have so many items and used to love the brand. Listening to this video makes me want to stop buying luxury items.

I agree with all of these. I do love my Mini Pochettes. They are not like any other pouches I’ve seen, they are quite unique and so practical. But I bought them about 10 years ago when they were around $200. If anything bad happened to them I would really think hard about whether I would replace them at the current cost and forget about preloved, they are even more expensive than new ones because LV are playing silly games and making their SLGs very hard to get.

@cmac6992 I only subscribe to girl math on things I want but can’t actually justify the cost of… like my YSL baseball cap. Same hat as my $30 sports team one, just an extra $200 for different embroidery 😂

Just got my LV monogram Pochette Metis for Christmas and have worn three times so far so it is an expensive cost per wear.😅 I plan to enjoy it for many years to come. I have no idea how anyone justifies a Birkin or Hermes if not extremely wealthy. At 53, my PM is my first new luxury piece. My daughter finished college in May(we paid all 4 years), house was paid off this Fall, so it was time to have something special for me. 😊❤️

Completely agree on the Bottega! I ordered a “dupe” bag from Amazon, just to see if I liked the form and function before investing in the real one. I absolutely cannot justify the spend and the Amazon bag went right back!

I went to the Chanel flagship store and they were definitely rude. The WOC is too long for me and I ended up getting a card holder that I regret, but it’s a souvenir. I don’t plan on buying anything from the Chanel boutique in the future.

Luxury used to feel aspirational, interesting and fun....the unjustified price increases seems so over the top greedy from the houses that it puts me off. It makes me nauseous and disgusted that hard working regular people are deprived from interesting cute design and quality. That there is no longer something to gift yourself without huge guilt as these price increases seems like legal robbery these days.

I definitely agree with you that the prices are robbing some of the joy from it. There are definitely a lot of pieces I would have loved to get one day but now won’t. I’m always okay with preloved but it isn’t quiet the same on some things.

Well thank you! I work off a budget for my luxury shopping (3% of my salary + any extra I earn through KZbin, Poshmark, holidays, teaching on the side) so I try to be smart in my spending. I see nothing wrong with people spending how they see fit (it’s their money) but I’m an accountant so parting with money is actually a pretty big struggle for me 😂

I love this video ❤ I burst out laughing at the Prada hair clips 😂 the chanel WOC is a ridiculous price. People only buy that because it's chanel. I refuse to believe otherwise as the Strathberry Multrees wallet, worn by Kate Middleton, is a better and nicer wallet. It's stunning. But some people are always going to be label snobs 🤷‍♀️

I like the strathberry WOC but it is a bit smaller. I’m currently looking at Dior’s and waiting to see if YSL releases a new style this year.

I have the Strathberry East/West clutch, which has been replaced by the Omni. It looks like the Multrees WOC from the front but it’s deeper and holds my essentials for a night out. That’s quite an achievement as I like to carry everything and the kitchen sink. And I got it on sale for aud600! It’s a good alternative to a traditional WOC if you need more space.

I paid $1200 for my WOC about 10-years ago and I thought it was overpriced then. It is in silver and was purchased as an evening bag and I have got a lot of use out of it. It sells at retail price on pre-loved sites, which mystifies me. However, it is not worth $3G - plus. I often wonder who purchases these overpriced items, like Prada hairclips. Who?
