Also helps you can technically get it with 0 lockpick and 0 science. Just need to hack 1 terminal, have low intel or high luck on the 3rd floor. Though the 3rd floor requirement you can ignore if you rush for the suitcase.

Got to think about it i really don't like the iron sights on service rifles so having other options to expend that type of ammo is nice. Seems like something that would be just good enough at hunting Radscorpions and Giant Ants for selling their parts. That way i can spare the service rifles for selling, get parts for selling, maybe spare some ammo for selling later as well because this one doesn't use up much as it deals most of its damage through stealth crits. :D

You actually don't need a stealth boy to sneak to Chance's grave, all you need to do is go over the cliffs from Goodsprings and you will end up on the ridge behind the grave

Yeah I prefer to use that cliff side over the one by the great khan camp to get to the strip, I usually have bad luck with the deathclaws so prefer to take the long route and deal with one fire gecko and then off to Vegas

I'm kinda surprised Chopper wasn't mentioned. It is the unique cleaver on the stove in Wolfhorn Ranch. It is somewhat comparable to Chance's Knife with zero difficulty in retrieval. It is just east and slightly north of Nipton, so it is also convenient for quests. Brief comparison of Chance's Knife vs. Chopper; Chance: 22 dmg, 91.4 dps, 4.15 aps, x2 crit chance, x1 crit dmg, 17 ap cost, 445 durability Chopper: 14 dmg, 54.9 dps, x1.5 limb, 3.92 aps, x2 crit chance, x1 crit dmg, 22 ap cost, 1245 durability Easy upkeep with cleavers being commonplace early game and with the high durability it will last. Powder Gangers will often carry them being easy enemies to deal with that can keep Chopper in top shape. Damage difference is also partially mitigated by the x1.5 limb dmg. edit: I also noticed Chopper requires a weapon skill of 0 and a strength of 2, while Chance's requires a weapons skill of 50 with a strength of 3.

The Humble Cudgel might also be worth a mention, though I'd say it is much less worth it than Chopper or Chance's Knife. It is located in the Sewers in front of Camp McCarren. You need a key to get it and to kill an npc for it. Cudgel's stats: 26 dmg, 72 dps, 2.77 aps, x1 crit chance, x1 crit dmg, 21 ap cost, 370 durability Of Note: the special move ''lights out'' does 125% more damage. Stating to do 65 dmg per attack in vats.

Some other's: 1. You can get a sniper rifle in Camp McCarren at the sniper's tent on one of the best. You'll have to steal it but it isn't that hard. 2. You can get Vance's 9mm submachine gun early on. You need to pass a 50 science skill check on Primm Slimm, the robot in the Primm casino and then you need to pass a 55 speech check or unlock a very hard lock to get. It's a bit better than the normal 9mm submachine gun 3. If you have gun runners arsenal you can also get Paciencia (unique hunting rifle) and the MF Hyberbreeder Alpha (unique recharger pistol) from Cliff Briscoe that are also extremely good early game weapons. You can also a lot of times get a katana and katana upgrades from him and the fully upgraded katana is an extremely good melee weapon 4.

The Ratslayer is my go to for sneak builds in the early to mid game, its an unsuspecting powerhouse, and all you gotta do is fight through a few rats, maybe some legionairies on the way there.

You can get a Trail Carbine in .44 magnum and the unique spiked knuckles call Love and Hate in the small village just north of the cazadores north of Goodsprings. It's on a pretty tough raider but leading him over some powder charges is doable. Downside for the carbine is the ammunition is hard to come by early on. You can get a Hunting Rifle laying on the ground on the north side of the locomotive at Boulder City to the east of the 188 Trading Post. Cheat below. If you're on computer you can open the safe holding Lucky by hitting the ~ key, clicking on the safe and using console command "unlock" (no apostrophes).

You can get Chance's Knife without dodging Cazadores, just take the hill to the left of the road (before the bend to the right) and climb over it. You can drop down to Chance's Grave without fighting or sneaking.

Chance's knife can be obtained without encountering the cazadores. North of GS, left of the road is a hill. Simply walk on the hill until the grave is below you, drop down, get the knife and fast travel away. When you sneak you won't alarm the cazadores.

So, one of the main builds I like to play is a gun slinger because right off the bat you can pick up the lucky and that gun. That means by the time you reach novak assuming you have 10 luck, built to destroy, and the 1st recon beret you can have a crit rate of 45%, and late game that goes up to 70% crit rate. These two guns can be acquired early and used well into the late game.

Expected to see a unique BB-gun. Completely silent, cheap ammo, extremely easy to repair and X1.5 crit modifier and 70 crit damage is no joke, and is on par with a sniper rifle shot (109 from bb-gun, 113 from sniper rifle). Surprisingly good against heavy armor as well, because low dmg regular attacks squeeze through DT anyway, and crit punches straight through.

You don't need any fights for Chances Knife. It can be obtained at level 1 using a mountain path above the Cazador infested street. Only a shovel is needed. Another unique weapon easily obtainable is Chopper. Most players will venture there on their way to Novac.

Hard part would be to get enough 9mm ammo to get through the Cazadors, since your skill level will not be high enough to outright target their heads. Same with the knife, for melee build you will not have the stats and armor or the sneak skill to make that work well. Lucky is in a locked safe, there´s a high skill requirement to get it, but if, it´s a great weapon. Ratslayer is such a good weapon, i can only recommend getting it. However both THAT GUN as well as THIS MACHINE will be hard to get early.

So it's a heck of a walk but shouldn't have any cazador or anything too dangerous along the way. One of my favorite weapons, that I usually use until end game (or until I get red glare) is thump thump. It has double projectile velocity, faster attack speed, more durability, and lower weight.... and literally almost nothing as far as requirements ( 3 Str and 25 explosives.) As you level you can get 85% more damage from the demolition expert and grunt perks alone. It really is a weapon that grows with you. I often used it until end game. While some explosive weapons have higher dps this has such high attack damage that I find myself one shotting or crippling most enemies, no need for super high dps when you only need 2-3 shots. That combined with the fact that it rarely needs repaired...

I would say liberator is pretty easy to get It's sequence breaking a bit but if the legion doesn't hate you they won't attack you and you can pickpocket it off Deadsea. Imo it's roughly the same amount of effort to get that as it is to get ratslayer or that machine. Also vance's smg is pretty easy to get too.

Issue with it is that it's kinda just worse than Chance's Knife in every way lol The bonus limb damage is nice and all but it doesn't make up for worse durability, way less attack speed, crit damage and DPS overall This is also why Maria is a pretty shit weapon, it's cool looking and it has some nifty stats but it comes after Lucky and That Gun and an easy to acquire Hunting Revolver, which makes you scratch your head as to what's the purpose of the gun, it has way worse stats and it's not like the first 2 have rare ammo or repair lol

You had me up until This Machine. That quest is still pretty buggy to this day, even with mods, and the gun itself has way too many drawbacks to be a good early-game weapon. It has too much sway for it to be good at long range, and not enough ammo to be good at short range. Plus, it's a bit too heavy, ammo isn't as accessible, and as a whole, it just isn't worth it imo. I would've gone with the AER-14 Prototype, which you only need 50 repair to access in vault 22. Dealing more damage than the standard laser rifle, being affected by a decent amount of perks, and looking cooler with the green laser. Even the q35 matter modulator would've been a better pick, with its increased damage and more efficient ammo consumption, though that 75 lock is a bit annoying early on like the Lucky unless you specifically build for it, or do the Skilled glitch. The Chopper is also a decent option, as it's literally free, just go grab it at that farmstead past Nipton. Decent damage early on, cheap to repair, and bonus limb damage is nice to have early on. I know Chance's knife basically does the same thing, but the Chopper is a good alternative for those who don't want to fight those cazadores early on. Good list overall, though! The Ratslayer is high-key busted throughout the entire game tbh

I think the spot for this machine shoulda been for the Gobi if he specifically wanted a rifle, very easy to just detour for it by running around Search Lightand grabbing it but as you said does require investing heavily into lockpick, otherwise incredibly powerful at every range, only issue is somewhat lacking ammo early game Btw Laser Rifle is better than the AER14, beam splitter being bugged and splitting the beam into 3 lasers each of which can crit on its own means you end up with WAAAY higher DPS, you also get the focus optics damage on each beam meaning you gain a 9 damage bonus instead of 3 with a long range scope and better Durability, the upgrades aren't too rare or expensive either and the laser rifle can be obtained right out of goodsprings if you're lucky (the Bright Brotherhood Ghoul under the bridge before Sloan can spawn with one) The Modded Laser Rifle is actually so stupidly strong that it contends with the absolute best weapons in the game in terms of DPS, but with way common repair, ease of access, and doesn't slow you down when moving like other two handed weapons

Getting Q-35 doesn't actually require any skill checks if you have Luck 7 or more. Just do the tour in REPCONN HQ and the robot will open the door to the planet room, then if you take the door out of the back of there you can pick up a security keycard that unlocks the door to the staff area and gets you up the first two floors. Third floor gets you challenged by the robots if they spot you but with Luck 7 you can guess the password, then loot the briefcase there for the keycard that gets you into the Q-35 room. No fighting or skill checks required, just some decent Luck, which you want most of the time in NV anyway for that easy casino money if nothing else. Ton of MFCs kicking around REPCONN HQ as well so you'll have ammo for days once you've collected it.

This Machine definitely isn't one of the best weapons in the game and the quest can be fairly annoying to get, replace it with the Gobi and you're good, fairly early acquisition aslomg as you focus on Lockpicking, incredible crit rate, incredible crit damage, very good durability and highly accurate with solid performance across all dt level, only surpassed by the CoS in lower Dts and for the stealth bonus One thing to remember about the Ratslayer is that it is bugged and isn't silenced due to the damage type it deals, beyond that it is still a great weapon One weapon people ignore that is actual ridiculously powerful for when you get it in the game is the Shovel funnily enough, it has ridiculous item HP, but mpst importantly can execute the Geand Slam in Vats at melee 50 which is guaranteed to knockdown enemies for several seconds, long enough for your ap to recharge fully and knock them down again, it also has respectable DPS because of it's crit rate of ×3 and crit damage of 20, and while it isn't comparable in DPS to Chance's Knife it's still something you'll want to start off fights with untill you can get Nephi's Golf Driver or Super Slam
