Should one de-ess every project as a safety? Would you do the same for a voice-over? I never considered putting one before compression but I'll give it a shot!

Use De-essing when you have to. Yes, if you have a lot of sibilance on your voice over, a de-esser will work well

try to listen for this specified freqencies before you use it, de-esser also cuts some top end so it will make you to use extra eq to compansate it. sometimes if it only one word to de ees i tend not to use it at all.

Hello Chris hope all is well. I see that your insert are MONO vst 3. But your vocal record on stereo. May I know why ? And why we need to have vocal on stereo ? Please advise.

That vocal was recorded on a stereo track and was sent to me that way fro mixing. It doesn't matter cause a vocal recorded with one mic is mono to start with. What I did in Cubase though was to drag that "stereo" audio on a MONO Channel so that's why you see Mono plugins cause that channel is MONO even if the audio event is "Stereo"

What if to use another microphone for recording vocal at the same time with the main mic, but put the another mic further away at the distance where "s" doesnt sounds bad, then use it to be activated from the sidechain instead of deesser? Or, when the deesser cuts the main vocal track, second track from the another mic turns on and turns off with the deesser.

simply saying, mask the deesser with "s" from another vocal track that set up specially for those sounds

Hey Chris, just a question I thought of today while traveling. I've been using guitar doubling and panning them left and right but I'm wondering if with the vocals I can have one track playing from left and right (like panned 30 to both sides) without phasing issues. Is there a simple thing I can do in Cubase to achieve this or do I need a plug-in for this?

For doubling, the best way to go is to record the signal twice and then pan them left/right, that will sound way wider and natural than doubling a track. If you don't have a choice but use what's available in your session, then you can use something like CLONER by loading different settings on each track then pan them.

Most of the time, only a good preamp (Vintech 473) and that's it but lately I've been experimenting with a bit of compression and EQ on the way in also using my Tegeler Creme compressor and Stam SA-EQP1A EQ.

There's nothing like a real choir but you can simulate this for sure... Have the group of 4 signers records several takes of the same harmony if possible, that will depend on the vocal range of the singers. So if you have a 3 part harmony vocal arrangement for your choir, each harmony can be recorded 4 times by the 4 signers at the same time... Then you'll have to add a concert Hall reverb or something.
