Well, the good news is that the RV has a kitchen. Right now it feels like I'm participating in some sort of game show called The Great RV Breakdown Challenge.

The problem with finding so many little things early is it undermines your confidence in the rest of the unit.

We traded our Keystone after 5 months, 4 in the shop with multiple issues and only two camping trips. One of the issues was an installation error on the electric jacks, that Keystone refused to fix. Even after we sent them Lipperts installation instructions. Have a Chapparal now. Hopefully it will be better!

Having now looked very closely at almost every brand of travel trailer around 30 feet from $22k to over $80k I can honestly say I think they are all junk! Even the top names seem to not be above crappy workmanship particularly in areas that are difficult to examine and therefore unlikely to be seen by the average consumer. On one unit with a MSPR of $82,177, staples had been used inside the kitchen cabinets to hold them together. Even a non-technical person would likely understand those cabinets will soon fall apart as they are shaken about going down the road. I've sadly come to the conclusion what ever I buy will need a lot of TLC on my part and I have no illusions the dealer or the manufacturer will fix anything in a time frame any person would find acceptable.

Smaller quality trailers can be had, Oliver comes to mind. There are a number of good quality molded fiberglass trailers but unfortunately they are all smaller than the 30’ you mentioned.

Great info. Thought we found a luxury brand RV. You have no need to apologize. Build quality - garbage, backup up with lack of customer support. Extra effort is not required at this price, just build a good product and stand behind it. Thank you sir, your information and swayed our decision.

Thanks for watching! It’s unfortunate because we really like the floor plan for our family. I’m hoping there’s no major stuff in the future as I’ve had a couple other items happen since making this video - the entire fake backsplash came off as well as the bracket that holds your license plate.

see, this is why i prefer to buy used. 1: all the problems are already found and the trailer's sold at big discounts near the actual "value" of said rig. 2: upgrade path is established. 3: list all repairs and upgrades + price of said trailer (ONLY IF IT HAS GOOD BONES!). 4: if the price is near or less than a new one (not counting the 30% you should know your going to invest in the hidden costs) continue to step 7. 6: if not walk/run! and finally step 7: buy and customize at a significant savings and have fun making it your own!

We had some problems when we 1st got our camper. After getting the run around trying get some of it fixed and talking to other people with similar problems I said screw it and just fixed it myself. We've put about 25k miles on it. When we get back from trips I just go over it and fix anything that came loose because of bad construction and bad highways.

We bought a 2023 Freedom Express and that's exactly what my husband has been doing. I'm lucky he's handy. Sliding door fell off the track even though it was strapped on during travel, other technical things happened which he fixed. We had too many reservations planned to put it in the shop. Camping is a short summer in the midwest!

We were considering buying a Keystone Cougar travel trailer a couple of years ago and went to check one out. We found a puddle of water on top of the plastic-covered mattress from the leaking front window. I also found a side window where I could fit a finger between the frame and the side of the camper. The fit and finish was terrible. We liked some of their floorplans so months later we did give Cougar a second look thinking that the first trailer was not typical for the brand. Again we found that the front window was leaking. Needless to say, we didn't buy a Cougar.

We owned a Keystone Cougar and the grey water tank split two weeks before the warranty ran out. I called CS and they documented it and said I'd be OK till we got it to the shop. Well the A/H's told the dealership they didn't know anything about it. I called and told Keystone I'd bash there cheap ass till I die. Keystone is a POS.

A travel trailer/rv fact. I always do a compete top to bottom way before any trips is made. I mean I take stuff apart and put back together and crawl the roof and all water water lines/drains, electrical, appliances etc. Rvs are extremely high maintenance on every level. And the brand new ones always have tons of issues.

The more I find out about the general construction of RVs, any RV, the happier I am that I am building my own camper. Anything brand new is likely the worst quality you will find. And anything very old is likely rotting in a few places and you have no idea. Then there are the leaks. Every single opening in the shell is a potential leak and likely will sooner or later. I might not even put in a window :)

Agreed. I looked at lots of used campers, determined I'd be buying other peoples problems. Ended up buying a shuttle bus and converted it. So glad I did it that way, and 4 years in we're still making improvements as we go. Add in 3 engine repairs, on Duramax Diesel, have less than 17k $ invested. Traveled 27K miles so far.

I had eleven issues with my Keystone Passport ranging from minor to dangerous. We had a gas leak, doors falling off, the water pump failed before we even drove off the lot and several other things happen. This was back in 2015 and the story we were told was they had "a new QC person that took over" whatever that means. The dealership bought the trailer back from us which was good on them but my confidence in Keystone is shaken.

Being a camper for quite sometime, you are certainly correct. I've only owned two campers, a Jayco pop up and a 30 ft olympia Autumn Ridge. Most campers I've looked at seem cheap. I especially don't trust things like plumbing. There always seems to be some kind of issue. You'd swear these things were assembled by 12 year olds.... incompetent..... almost like there is no supervision during the build process. That Jayco i own has been through steady, torrential rain on many occasions with no leaks. Just really solid. I'm waiting to see what happens with my new olympia. There's bound to be something. You're right, we spend thousands of dollars on these things.....at the very least, they should be reliable. Built well AND have owners manuals absolutely and positively specific to that model! The best brand, in my humble opinion, that I've walked through and contemplated purchasing was a grand design. They certainly are not cheap though. My first jaunt in my new camper will be in another month. My fingers are crossed.

Cougar 26RDS here. We had a few issues when new. Kitchen window leaked. We removed window and installed it properly, check valve on water heater was bad but that was about all. With your awning unrolling when traveling, notice that bolt on the tow end of the awning. Adjust the bolt out towards the siding. This is a lock mechanism. When the slide is in, the bolt head contacts the side, putting pressure on a lock that stops the awning fabric from unrolling when traveling. Don’t adjust out too far, should just contact when closed. As far as anything else, we, so far, haven’t had any other issues, not like other RVers.

Also Randy with a 26RDS. :-) I feel lucky we bought ours last year, 2022 model year, and we have a list of 7 or so items after a season of camping that we warranted and that was it. Nothing critical at all. I feel very fortunate hearing all these stories.

We took our Keystone passport 229rk back to the dealership 4 months after we bought it. it had 28 things wrong. The didn't even brace the shower pan. it leaked if someone was standing in it. Absolute disgrace. took it one time then waited 3 months to take it back for warranty repair and that took over three months. owned it for seven months and only was able to use it for a week.

2021,2022, 2023 campers, quality in materials and workmanship suffered greatly. Their goal was to put out as many as possible, cutting corners at every turn to keep the sales lots full. With the sharp downturn in sales today maybe quality will return in a year or so. I will wait till then.

This happened in a lot of industries. Pandemic money and people with lots of free time to discover new hobbies combined to drive demand to record levels with RVs, musical instruments, etc. Manufacturers just couldn't make things fast enough to fuel a buying frenzy they knew wouldn't last forever, so tons of guitars, RVs, were rushed out. No doubt QA people were either overrun or flat out mandated to have higher pass rates to meet that demand. 2024s might be worth checking, though,

We have been Forest River people having owned one of their motor homes and 4 travel trailers from 2005 to the present. We had great luck with them. Our V10 Ford puller popped a sparkplug which caused us to not trust it anymore. We did a new 2022 eco- boost F150 which didn't have the tongue weight capacity of the old f250. We downsized to a 2022 Cougar 22mls that has the 400 watt solar package. We used a dealer on the other side of the state which is about 5 hours away and is a small dealer. We have had 3 fridge failures which ended up being the thermal fuse. The dealer did not know the solar equipped units need to have the inverter turned on and the fridge set for electric operation. It looks us 3 failures and a trashed vacation trip to resolve it. To Keystones benefit they did reimburse us for the outside fridge we bought to salvage our vacation. The inverter....it's mounted on the top surface of the pass through storage. Turning on the inverter required me to hold a flashlight in one hand and a mirror in the other while I was leaning into the storage as far as I could. The on/off switch on the inverter is that tough. I am in my mid 60's. There is a $100 wired remote that I will have to buy. Glass shower door. The shower door latch never worked. Bottom line the leaves shattered about 6 months into our ownership. We bought this thing new. The shower door was ripped out as I didn't feel like dealing with the service girl's attitude any longer. It was replaced with a shower curtain rod and plain old shower curtain. Dinette table, we have never figured out how the latch works. We to this day cannot put much pressure on the table or it goes down. It's 2022 and this $40k+ thing only has a DVD player in it. Not even a Blu-ray. Due to the numerous failures we don't trust this unit and when we go out we ask ourselves " what's next" I have a mistrust of the cable operated slide but it's based on nothing. The cable system might be fine. This is the last Keystone for us.

The front window on that model was also leaking., The salesman tried to tell us it was condensation, except the heat was not on.😐 I know that any new model is going to have some small issues, but those aren't small, For now, we'll be sticking with our 2010 Keystone Bullet. Thanks for making your videos. Cougar is one of the brands that I have a hard time finding owner reviews good or bad. Really, hearing your complaints and being on here looking at a lot of brands, I would say be thankful your slide works, you have no major leaks or floor buckling, etc...I have seen some horror stories and from people who paid a quite a bit more than you did. We absolutely love the new 23 MLE and have been wanting to see one but they are apparently a unicorn so far. I sold a 2014 jay flight and bought a 2022 jay feather. First trip kitchen drawers fell out of the base cabinet. The bottoms busted loose on 3 of the drawers. Trim next to the fridge popped off. Fridge door trim popped off. Electrical on the water heater was wired wrong and wouldn’t work. Shower leaked in one of the corners. A piece of a staple in the wall was sticking out and scratched the sliding door. Fun stuff… I have fixed it all myself. It would have to be major to take back to the dealer. I’m not knocking jayco either. My next camper will probably be a white hawk…😅

I'm in total agreement. Before I started out the bathroom cabinet door came off. Appeared they had stripped the wood out. Also, have a problem with the front awning rolling up properly-wanting to bunch up. Entry door curtain doesn't go up and down without tucking in the shade. When I opened my closet after parking to hang more clothes up, I find the clothes rod on the ground with my clothes piled up underneath. So far, NOT AT ALL impressed with my 2023 Cougar 33RLI. Quality is shoddy and trying to fix one problem before the next one happens. As I write this, my running lights on the Cougar will NOT turn off. I'm in agreement, this one has an MSRP of $83,000!!

Yeah, I'm sorry that all of us are having these issues...seems like QA/QC is not being performed. I've had two other items happen since making the video - the fake backsplash completely came off the wall (only thing holding it on is the outlet cover) and the license plate bracket came off while I was putting on the plate (just pulled right out). Those two should be fairly easy fixes, but I shouldn't have to fix them right now and that's my point.

Had similar issues with our Grand Design bringing it home from the dealer. I think probably all or most manufacturer's slam their products together and if you're lucky you get a good one. Had Forest River Rockwood before and hag similar but fewer problems. My best advice is to buy from a dealer near your home so warranty and repair work is close at hand.

I hate to see someone else having problems with their Keystone Cougar but I'm honestly not surprised. We bought the 34 TSB model (which also is far from a cheap trailer) in April of 2022. I've used it exactly twice in the 18+ months I've owned it. It has been to the dealership at least 4 times, the factory twice, and once to a fiberglass repair shop. I spent more money on what I thought was a quality RV but it has been nothing but a headache. The previous 2 RVs I owned were far cheaper but gave me almost no trouble. I love the layout of the trailer and the features it has (when they work right) but I'm not far from getting rid of it.

We bought a keystone passport 268 BH and we made more trips to Ft Myers than we had made camping trips the biggest problem was brakes we couldn’t get it home after paying in full for it they said it was fixed and back and forth we went , went on a shake down trip and the water pump was not working properly so back we went , hot water heater went out so back we went so , yes keystone is saying it was a bad check valve and they Putin a new one and it was a bigger pump but they all get made so fast that QC can’t keep up so good luck and be safe.

We were recently at a local RV show and noticed shelves in pantry of a TT were clearly all mounted slightly off level. While we were pointing that out to sales person my hubs looks across and sees the sound bar above fireplace was mounted crooked as well by probably half an inch! And because the wall paneling behind it had horizontal lines the sound bar was obviously not level with the lines of the wall! Family members have a 44’ 5th wheel they spent a pretty penny on and first thing we noticed was the Brand name decal on the side of the rig is totally crooked! Family member is a total perfectionist and has to see that on the camp side of their rig whenever they’re camping!

Known for years, for the most part, there is no quality control. It’s cheaper to do after purchase repairs for the manufacturers. Also, the manufacturers consider a $45k RV as a low end RV. We don’t cause - hey- $45k. But you know…. The main difference in RV purchases (same brand/model) is the dealership taking the time to fix all the little things before the sale.

Sorry to hear you had these issues. I have the same floor plan as you minus the bunk beds in the back. I have the 2022 Cougar 25RDS. We used it a lot last year and had no issues at all. It's actually the best trailer I ever had. I upgraded with the MORryde suspension with heavy duty shackles. This made a world of difference things that would move around inside would be where we left it. Gives the trailer a smoother ride. I was surprised with the broken wheel cover. I think the screws were stripped and the wind got behind it and broke it off. I think your rig was built on a Monday lol Well I hope this is the end of the problems and you can go out and enjoy it.

Thanks, we do like the trailer layout…we were debating on the 25RDS, but didn’t want to have to take down the kids bed everyday. Hopefully this is all the problems and looking forward to a good year of camping! Yeah, must have been a Monday or Friday afternoon…appreciate the comment!

Sounds like I dodged a bullet. I was going to get a Cougar 29BHS that has been sitting on a lot for a year. I went to see it and found the veneer peeling off the various facing boards in the kitchen. The floor was lifting up by the register and the plywood under the master bed was delaminating. If that happened in one year of sitting on the lot, I imagine it will be much worse in two or three years with use.

I have purchased 2 brand new Cougar RV's [1- bumper pull-and 1-fifth wheel] in the last 2 1/2 years. The bumper pull was ok at best but the $65K fifth wheel was junk from the get go, you name it and it was either defective or unfinished from the factory. My local dealer [Waco] did not do any inspection on the electrical or plumbing they said it was ready to go camping the day we picked it up. My big mistake was trusting them. I now have a class c Coachman and so far it has been a little better but still has problems that I just pay for out of pocket the dealer in Georgetown wanted $10,000.00 for an extended warranty.

Only 5 items 😂. My 2020 24STB so far are two windows replaced, the kitchen counter replaced (window leak result), bathroom sink (tabs not cut to fit - tried extra sealent instead 🙄, back corner jack motor (used 100 times maybe & $1000 quoted part cost), brakes backing plates (after 4 seasons of light use), and some more cosmetic stuff. I didn’t get the extended warranty. I particularly dislike the InComand panel - it take 4-5 times longer to do anything and you can’t fix it.

I have two 5th wheels, a 2019 Cougar 366 and a 2003 Sunnybrook 24 footer. The Cougar was delivered with so many problems, that it has spent it's life in a seasonal spot in a campground. I could have bought a park model cheaper, but I don't trust it. When I go to a race track or spend a weekend away, it is in the Sunnybrook. Everything still works perfectly despite being 20 years old and many highway miles . Most of the Cougar problems have been with the electronics, but the fit and finish is poor, as well. A big refrigerator that doesn't cool in hot weather because it isn't properly vented and slides that won't go in or out (electronic motherboard). This is our second Cougar, the 2013 was highway used and was pretty good. Should have refurnished, got new tires and kept it.
@whiskeyrunner43
@whiskeyrunner43 Жыл бұрын
Just to add to the differences between my Cougar and Sunnybrook 5th wheels, the Sunny has a lot of wood in it despite being an aluminum frame trailer. The outer walls are thick enough that it has electrical outlets in it instead of up in cabinets and such that you see in the Cougar. It is a chunk to pull, despite being 24 ft., you need a super duty. The 39 ft. Cougar is beautiful to look at, comfortable to stay in, but if I were bouncing it down the road it would fall apart. I used to work for a supplier to the big plants in Goshen. I think they originally located there because it is surrounded by a large Amish community, many of whom went to work there. They were craftsmen and put out quality work. You go through those plants today, you hear a lot of Spanish and see a lot of bad tats. Not knocking them, they have to make a living, too, but the level of training, can't be that good. Maybe since the deliveries are down( and the prices up) they will be able to design in more quality and have better control.

From my perspective Cougar is about middle of the pack. There are brands who take things a bit more seriously in the construction process, but you do pay more. In this business you definitely have to temper your expectations and match the unit you purchase with the size of your bank balance and your tool box.

We bought a brand new 2023 Heartland Mallard and have lived in it a couple of months. The thing is a total shtbox and had had a slew of problems. The current one is we came back one day and all but 3 of the outlets have no power. We've come to the conclusion that it is either the wiring from the breaker box to the GFCI outlet, or the breaker panel/converter itself. This is after the microwave has never worked because that outlet fell out and has never had power, the solar controller didn't work because it wasn't wired properly, the bathroom door stopped shutting, the kitchen blinds were never installed, we asked for a quote on a TV mount and they installed one for $300 without telling us, they installed that TV mount too high and I had to fabricate brackets to mount my TV, screws keep falling out all over, the storage area partition walls have all fallen out, the P trap for the kitchen sink has come undone and spilled water all under the counter, the water heater thermal fuse went off and the WH stopped working. Oh, and when we picked the trailer up the first time, they apparently swapped the spare wheel for an axel wheel. Noticed that there was a giant bulge on the tire of the regular wheel on the spare mount, so had to take it all the way back for replacement. Probably forgetting a few other things.

Picked up last 6/22, inaugural trip 6/28, found missing screws in cabinets, paper left in ac vents….but the biggest QUALITY & Safety issue, the dump valves are reversed grey empties black, black empties gray, normally not really a big issue, except this RV has TWO external sewer hookups, and this weekend we were not in a full hook up site, so we discovered this modern engineering marvel….at the dump station this morning….Not a happy camper…at all

Just bought NEW on 4/13/23 2023Keystone/Cougar 22RBS in Alabama, when I got home and looked underneath it all the propane pipe/fittings, screws/bolts that hold the underbelly insulation up, all items that were not galvanizied were rusted, even the aluminum jacks housings were pitted. They pulled this thing down from the manufacturing plant in the dead of winter through the salt and now KEYSTONE CUSTOMER SERVICE are saying it is NOT WARRANTED FOR RUST. Even parts of the frame and mechanisms for the slideout are rusted and the teeth have no grease where they either tried to clean it off with a pressure washer or had no grease to begin with. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. Exposed propane lines should be either brass or copper on a RV. Over the road, raw steel pipe and fittings are subject to all the forces that will inevitably fail and should be a safety concern for the people that write the RV standards.

I have a Keystone Cougar my 2nd brand new one. The first one had ZERO issues. When I was looking to replace my Keystone Retreat, I obviously went back to what was perfect before. I’ve had so many issues with the new Keystone! Quality is no longer a priority with the builders and inspectors on site while these campers are being built! I’m dealing with a severe manufacturer’s defect right not and replacing the slide out floors in my living room (2 of them). Unfortunately, I do not trust the Keystone name any longer. Calls to the company have gotten me nowhere since it’s out of warranty. The first day we had this new one, where were screws sticking through the arms of the pleather couches, the wood molding fell off of one side of the slides, when the camper was delivered it was filthy inside so I vacuumed. The carpet wasn’t glued down and my vacuum was able to lift the carpet. Screws sticking up through the carpet on the stairs! Metal pieces stuck in feet……the list goes on and on!

2022 29RLI, Could not open bedroom window screw ran into channel, level gauges erratic. Front ac groans, water leaks into camper from underside when raining and driving. Debris left on subfloor and vinyl laid over it. Saw dust fell from all over 1st 5 months. Numerous stripped screws, trim falling off because they ran the screws or staples through the trim. Key TV module doesn't work with tailgater. Hard to open any window. Ran a screw through TV cable, cable ends done poorly, shielding touching copper feed. Did not grease equalizers from new, ruined already. Cannot open refrigerator with slide in (they advertise you can) island put too far forward, also it rocks back and forth. Toilet leaked, shower handles falling off and panes are not square, off by 1" from top to bottom. Gaps in "sealed" areas. Cannot open vent above living area unless you are 6' 5", no tool provided. Installing Winegard is a joke, not possible to run on off switch anywhere without a major rework. Center caps on wheels rattle. Probably missing more but you get the point..

We own a 2020 Keystone Outback 328RL, so far Furnace wouldn't work on 1st winter trip, Keystone replaced. Unit has two refrigerators both have had repairs, Electric fireplace was replaced last year, this year 2 converters have failed, one replaced by Keystone the 2nd by owner. So called E rated tires are crap, 1 blew out taking off the fender and floor damage. I am very disapointed at Keystone and Camping worlds reactions to these many problems. And the new digital antennas are Crap too. RV industry has no regulations and they are all mostly put together by unskilled workers at low pay who could care less about the end product!

we ordered the same unit and have owned it less than a year and are trading it in....with that said, all trailers have their issues - we've owned cheaper units with less issues - but wve ownde more expensive units with worse issues. this is our first Keystone - but not sure we'd own another one even though we like the Montana line. here is some of what we experienced some with our 2022 30BHS - but the biggest reason for trading this one is cable slides - i knew going in - and wasn't comfortable with them - did it anyway - and I'm not happy. not to mention (we've owned many units) this thing is squirlly behind our 2022 dually diesel - nothing i cant handle - but certainly one of the worst bumper pulls we've owned - with the biggest truck we've owned! lol. here were our first year issues - and its not a full year yet. 1. solar flex 400 upgrade with OEM batteries - never charged from day 1. our dealer had to rewire the entire system before it would work 2. upgraded battery box - junk. i out a nice NOCO box on - the OEM box was a regular double box with a metal plate to make it lock - leaked water inside. 3. third trip - cable slide frayed - only a couple strands left - warranty repair - but then the fascia around the motor housing at the slide broke and splintered during removal - dont want to have to go through that when out of warranty 4. ac unit quit - no biggie - normal stuff - freeze sensor fell out of coil? 5. waterlines in bathroom would rattle against the wall when water pump was on 6. waterpump backflow valve stopped working - and city water inlet filled the fresh tank. new waterpump replacement 7. the hitch is pretty low - drags on the ground occasionally when there is a up/down grade on sites... 8. dining table collapsed on my wife's legs - that was pre table recall... 9. top cap LED light came off and was stuck to the roof - lol What did we like? auto levelling, the dual super quiet AC units installed on this unit, the floor plan, the LED lighting, the Furrion stereo was one of the only ones where we ever got the bluetooth to work proper, and the storage in the rear under the bunks.

Wow, you've had a lot of concerns as well. Towing was fine for me and I didn't notice anything that concerned me there. Like you, I do really like the auto levelling and being able to do everything with my phone - like putting out the slides or awning. I do have a question...how did you know your solar wasn't charging? I wonder if I'm having an issue as well...I don't show in the app anything higher than 1 watt. I did figure out that they forgot to push the button to turn on the inverter. But I'm still not showing much being generated and may have to take it to the dealership.

Honestly most issue were minor and it is very common with all brands. Just need to know this going into it. Basically every time we went to pick up the unit from storage the batteries were dead and the history in the Victron app showed no charge every day. It’s stored uncovered in full sun so it was a pretty easy diagnosis. Not so much of an easy repair however. Glad I had a warranty.
