You're absolutely right to fail an RV if it had bad plumbing or slides. No way I'd buy one and the counter material is crap too, to me auto fail.

I bought my 2023 Cougar (travel trailer) before your videos and spent a lot of time researching slides. The best I could come up with was rack & pinion slides were the best, Schwintec were the worst, and the Bal Accuslide were somewhere in the middle. I intentionally avoided Schwintec, as you're saying to intentionally avoid the Accuslide. Sometimes RV manufacturers, like Grand Designs, with multiple slides, mix and match different slide technologies on the same RV. Of my top 10 choices, it was an even mix between all these slide designs. I'm not sure if you've done it yet, but perhaps you should make a video entitled "How to keep your Accuslide alive." You've mentioned what to look for and how to maintain them. Perhaps there's some retrofit options or things to watch. If the cables are loose or too tight, is there a way to perform tightness maintenance on these? My guess is a third of RV owners likely own one of these units. You're picking off some of the top rated brands here, so remediation is going to be important.

All my research also suggested that the Schwintek slide systems are the worst, or at least the most problematic and hardest to maintain anyway, especially on larger slides, due to how it can get desynched and off track, how often the motors tend to fail, and how the tracks get chewed up over time as a result of how they were designed. So I also avoided that slide system like the plague when I recently purchased my toy hauler. It has the accuslide system as well. Unfortunately it seems that the vast majority of used RVs, and many of the new RVs as well, have either or both of these two slide systems. But at least the accuslide system can be more easily maintained and adjusted, and even repaired if one of the cables breaks. But I suppose that in his experience the chances of some kind of catastrophic failure are greater for the accuslide system, even if such failures are more or less uncommon when and if the system is properly adjusted and maintained regularly. But to answer your question, this video explains how and when to adjust the accuslide system in detail... kzbin.info/www/bejne/moasiGqhoK-Ua6s

I bought a keystone cougar 5th wheel new about 8 years ago. The only issue I've had with it is the door handle breaking, so I replaced it with a much higher quality one. Other than that, it's been a great unit, just have to maintain the caulking on the roof. Rack and pinion slide by the way.

How about the electrical? My Grand "Design" 5th wheel can only be described as a questionable to say the least... 1/2 of the electrical loads plugged straight into the battery un-fused...and up stream of the battery disconnect circuit. Which creates confusion because you think the battery is disconnected and protected from self-discharge....NOPE. And solar directly connected to the Battery with no breaker or fuse in-between.... Which means the system is live when you go to work on it....unless its dark outside or your in a shop.

Whyyyyy do they continue to use MDF and thermofoil and especially in areas that are in constant contact with water? Currently having this bulging issue in my kitchen countertop around the sink.

Can you convert cable slides to another more acceptable drive mechanism? It seems to me to be complex and probably harder to build than something like a rack and pinion system so why do the manufacturers continue to use the cable system?

Your knowledge is valuable to those of us who have not worked in, on, or around RVs. Thank you for sharing that and as you know, this is why you have subscribers. Your brief explanation of your revenue generating I find acceptable. However, the never-ending inclusion of the app in the videos which distracts from the quality of your older videos I will not watch and will not subscribe to. Hopefully you return to making better videos that rely on the content to increase viewership as opposed to driving viewership down with annoying marketing.

Hi, Just push / Press on it and knock on it. MDF and Pressboard are soft whereas a "solid surface counter is hard as a rock which makes sense Considering it is made from stone, which is a problem with large counters due to its weight. if you like wood Baltic Birch is the go-to wood..Good Luck. I don't know much about automotive paint protection. Keep in mind that a product like this will only help keep the paint from fading and stay shiny...it does not prevent caulking from cracking and creating water leaks. I would encourage you to research other users experience over time to see if it holds up. If someone just had it applied and are happy with how shiny it is, that does not equal longevity. Yes you can DIY a "Diamond" ceramic coating. More importantly I encourage you to have the exterior checked every year for any cracked caulking and reseal as needed.

@@undercoverrvtech Thanks for the feedback but you're proving my point. Every fifth wheel in this video got an F. Are there any 30-35 foot fifth wheels getting a solid B or A? We are leaning towards Grand Design and feel I could fix the plumbing. That's only because every fifth wheel seems to have one problem or another.

@@ryanryan6207 Been researching 6 years, just my opinion but I'd recommend watching the Rockwood factory tour videos by Josh the RV nerd. Very solid units imho and thats why were buying one. In many ways built better then Brinkley. Example, dual azdel in walls interior exterior, better roofs with lifetime warrany, better suspension systems, bed frames and all walls, floors, slides all framed in aluminum not cheap wood.

I’m not going to step into a new rv after watching KZbin videos. I live in a self converted cargo trailer. 5 years on the road. I want an rvia trailer for social acceptance because of the “anti homeless nomad movement” when I was a kid the dream was to rv and travel thru retirement. Now the states and cities are making it illegal. I only park and camp legally, keep clean, dogs are leashes and small.

You should disclose the model year of the RV you are reviewing. Your review system / app is your opinion only. All brands of RV components track their warranty. I'm confident they don't share that information directly with you. However you use phrases like "that fails more". That comment is in your experience only. You provide no information that proves you have national statistics of failure rates of any item you review. But that is what's great about American, everyone gets to have an opinion. As a consumer, I just need to remember, this is your opinion and not statistically based.

This is an opinion of an expert in the industry. While some may argue that large scale data may be more accurate, expert opinions carry a lot of weight and should be strongly considered. This why in court cases experts are brought in to testify. I consider the opinions of people that fix the stuff that manufacturers screw up to be very valid. In the RV industry manufacturers screw up a lot of stuff to increase their bottom line. The opinions on this channel carry a lot of weight for the reasons I mentioned.
