Put 3 Toothpicks and wood glue in the screw holes. Let it dry overnight then trim the toothpicks even with the surface and it will hold better then new.

Thanks for posting. Aa an electrical industry veteran I thought I’d point out some terminology issues for folks that aren’t as electrically savvy as some others. Fuses do not “Trip”, they blow out. Simply meaning they cannot be “reset”. Tripping as a term, relates to circuit breakers that had a reset function built in to them. Picky, I know but important non the less. Also, I see your battery current at timestamp 7:21 running slightly over 15 amps and your fuse rating was 15amps. Not sure where in the circuit that inline fuse resided, but wanted to point that out from a troubleshooting perspective. Just a couple of quick missives. Thanks again for posting, the RV community really appreciates it!

Thanks, I know better, but get caught up in the moment of recording...you never know what I might say! Appreciate the explanation for those who may not know. Also, yeah, others pointed out they saw the same thing about the battery current. We switched to a 20 and it still blew...has a 25 in it now and hasn't had a problem. Appreciate you watching!!

@@CampingandCoffee Hi, I also noticed that the fuse you have is a 15A fuse. According to the Keystone site for the 400i solar package they provide a Victron MPPT charge controller that is rated for 30A. If on a sunny day the controller is putting out 30A into the batteries, you could blow the fuse (assuming that fuse is inline with the output on the controller). The fuse should protect the wiring so should be sized for the type/rating of the wire and this should also be specified in the electric diagram for the trailer. Hope that helps a bit.

@@shucksan4026 Thanks appreciate the info...it did come with the charge controller, but still had the smaller fuse that is inline with the controller.

I learned the hard way buying a Keystone product. They dont stand behind their warranties, we will never buy a Keystone trailer again and we tell people about our story every chance we get. Bought a new trailer and the 1st year we only had it 2 months, the other months it was at the dealer cause Keystone would not replace all the walls due to delamination. Finially after stating I am getting a lawyer involved, 2 days later they agreed to fix it. BUT they did a crappy job when they did.

My wife and I feel your pain. We had a Cougar that we bought brand new fro Centennial RV in Colorado. When we went to go pick it up they had it backed up to their garage. We did our walk thru but couldn’t really get around to the back of the camper. Everything looked good inside the camper so we signed the papers and hooked up and drove home to Colorado Springs. Next day we drove to a campsite about an hour and a half away and when we got there we noticed that the top of the back panel where it meets the roof had come completely apart. When we were done camping we went to dump and we used our black tank flush and it flooded the bathroom. Apparently someone had put the anti siphon device located under the bathroom sink in backwards. Refrigerator only worked intermittently and we were told is was not designed to be used at altitude. So why were they selling these at altitude. Heater went out when it was 20 degrees one night. Black tank flush was repaired and the it stopped working completely. Remote for awning and jacks quit working. Awning ended up not working at all. Would not extend. Know how we fixed it. We traded it in on an Outdoors RV and have had zero problems. It’s been the best RV we have ever owned. Good luck.

We bought an Outdoors RV new in 2018. I did my research before making the purchase. It was more expensive for the same size trailer. The best thing is that we have had no problems over the past 5 years. Spending more has paid off.

Oh my gosh! We just came so close to buying a Cougar. It had obvious cosmetic problems that made us leery about the overall quality (we currently own a North Woods Manufacturing TT). We came home and looked up reviews on Keystone 😮, it’s a hard no for us! We’d rather have quality of the ORV and all their browness over the “lipstick on a pig” of the Cougar. Hope you love your ORV!

We were sold on getting the Cougar 260MLE but after watching your video and finding literally hundreds of complaints about the Cougar and other Keystone products, we decided definitely no. After MUCH research, we decided on a Brinkley 5th wheel. It does cost more than we originally wanted to spend, but from first hand knowledge of Brinkley owners we decided it’s worth the extra cost for a well built rig. I will never buy an rv expecting perfection, but hopefully the repairs and upkeep will be minimal. We are trading our 2016 Lance which has been an excellent trailer over the years with very few easily fixed issues. If the Brinkley is as good as our Lance was, I’ll be a very happy camper.

I commented on your part 1. Now, part 2, our brand new trailer last fall that didn't have it's first trial run until we went to Florida in March. I opened the fridge door to put food in and needed to change the shelf placement that still had cardboard dividers. Took out the cardboard, could not get the shelves out. The fridge door would not open wide enough because it butted up against the bathroom wall. Literally would have to take the door off to move the shelves. Was going to do that when we got home but the day after arriving we had an ice storm and a huge pine tree snapped and fell on top of our brand new trailer. Problem solved. Written off.

Probably the best day of your RV life, sadly. My family had RVs when I was growing up and I’ve had one all my life and I’m 65 now. My wife and I really look forward to enjoying RVing once we retired. But, what we are finding is that there’s not much enjoyment left. Campgrounds are impossible to find, the new RVs are all junk, the cost to maintain an RV has become totally outrageous. Now, We are done! If I can just figure out a way to get rid of it. They are worth nothing only use Market, so I suppose I will just take the hit and walk away. If you’re reading this, thinking of getting into an RV, I strongly advise against it. You will regret it.

I've had 2 keystone products. Economy and regular and they both needed upgraded axles to keep bearings from burning up. Overbuild chassis is their specialty. The repairs are usually more staples. They just make it uglier the more it gets repaired. They don't pay for "real repairs"", just band aids until your warranty is over. Good luck.

@@dungareenavy5970 no, just poor quality and lack of experts who do plumbing, electrical and iron work. Ours hasn't been on the road and the gas pipes and frame are rusting out. The plumbing and electrical was done by inexperienced workers who are likely not licensed. Our $100,000 fifth-wheel flooded about 18 days after it was delivered. We had to clean it and only had it hooked to water for roughly 10 days. It was leaking in the storage area and then the leak leached on to a bathroom PEX pipe. On the 18th day in the morning we found a lake in the trailer. The flood damaged the floors in the Kitchen/Galley area, under the stairs, and in the storage area. It appears the leak was there prior to us bying it as there was black mold on the wall, under the floor and on the inspection cover. This type of mold doesn't happen in 18 days. Keystone won't fix it the RV, they won't replace it, and thet won't refund our money. It sat at the dealer's location for over a year waiting for it to be repaired until the dealer (Sunrise RV and Truck) threaten us with a $40.00 a day storage fee.

Keystone built this trailer during the pandemic and it is a lemon. Getting rid of it

Coming back from a camping trip I noticed both wheel well covers on my Cougar moving quite a lot drove me nuts watching them in the rear view mirrors. Once I got home and tore in to them I just shook my head seeing those screws. I got 20 truss head (they have a broader head than standard bolt heads) 10 24 bolts, washers, nuts and a roll of 15lb double sided 3M tape. I cleaned everything with alcohol covered each bolt hole with a one inch piece of tape, replaced the fenders and replaced the screws with the bolts (I spray painted them to approximate the color of the covers.) I can honestly say they’ll not be coming off anytime soon.

Just a fact I learned quickly as a retired auto tech. The 20k RV is the same thin walls, leaking pex pipes, staples and cheap wire connections as the 70k one. It was a long standing statement on the last page of sales literature for most RV's to warn you to buy local. Dealers can't refuse service, but they give first priority to their customers . And that back of the line you are in could be months of waiting. Unless it's a major failure, I fix it myself or email the service rep for my brand for advice. Just like the auto industry, no one wants to work as a repair tech anymore.

We had an issue with a fender skirt on our Keystone Laredo. When crossing Oklahoma, the high winds folded back one of the fender skirts. When replacing it I used stainless steel machine bolts (I think 1/8") with stanless steel fender washers on both the outside and inside (behind the metal the screws were in). This will support the plastic fender skirt better than a screw head. I used nylock nuts so the nuts would not back off. So the stainless would not show I painted them black before installing them. Unless you look close you won't notice the machine bolt screw heads or fender washers.

I forgot to say, we also had issues getting warranty work completed at the dealership where we purchased our Keystone. Because of that experience, we tried another location. The service advisor kept telling us they were getting the repairs approved. They said this until the warranty ran out, and yes, they had the trailer the entire time. During that time the dealership had 3 turnovers of service managers and in the end the entire service department was replaced. When I talked to Keystone and expressed my disappointment of their dealer network they acted like they did not care, saying "sorry they did not get you taken care of" like they wiped their hands of the unit when we purchased it. If we purchase another one, Keystone may not be on the list

Beginning in 2012, the travel trailer industry moved to lighten trailers so a light truck or smaller SUV could technically pull one. Then, they cut material costs and labor allotments to the minimum. We researched. We talked with people. We looked at many RVs. We then laid a truckload of cash out for a brand new 29RBK Cougar in 2015 and towed her home. NOTHING. BUT. PROBLEMS!! Black/gray tank mislabeled? Yep! Tank levels not working? Yep! Wheel covers randomly breaking? Yep! Add to that, power tongue jack broke while camping, fiberglass delaminated on one side, rear bunk drawer came open while on route to camping and broke into pieces while bouncing around and caused other damage, trim pieces falling off here and there, and my favorite - they shot a screw through one of the water supply lines (which they somehow didn't catch when they tested out all of the on-board systems) so when we hooked up to city water on our first camping trip it flooded the front bedroom! When a $30,000 camper spends more days in the dealership for warranty work than there are available camping days, you know it's a POS. Keystone = never again!

Same here brother! I owned my 25RDS for 5 days and the inCommand quit along with 4 or 5 minor issues. In the shop for 6 weeks. I bought the towing with confidence package, no TPMS monitor or signal repeater. I finally had to buy a repeater out of my pocket. 2.5 months later, Keystone finally shipped me the parts that I was missing on delivery. Lots of minor problems that I fixed myself in the last year. But the BIGGEST problem is in the SolarFlex 600iL system. Everything works great EXCEPT..,the AC won’t run on battery power. In the shop for 6.5 weeks and they did nothing. I picked it up so I could do some fall camping. The next time in the shop for 10 weeks and they didn’t fix it. I again picked it up. No more with my dealer. I’ll figure something out. Keystone Customer service was some help, but ultimately what I paid a lot of money for has never worked completely. It you are bored and have nothing to do, buy a Cougar. It will keep you busy just keeping it up for its intended use. I hate it, but they outwaited me and I lost.

We have a Cougar 22mls and there were multiple problems we had with it. It's been ongoing, getting all these things fixed. We also had the screws backing out of the fender. I purchased nylon locking nuts, bolts, washers to replace the screws that have nothing to hold them. Some people were adding silicone behind the screws, but I prefer a more permanent solution. We had a window leak in the back kitchen window. Turns out the opening wasn't cut cleanly and the wall itself was out, so in the right top corner, wood was visible underneath the window frame where the screws were. It was a big job, but our dealer fixed it under warranty work. We also have a pin hole in the bathroom faucet, still waiting for a replacement. The smaller window next to the kitchen is leaking, dealer tried to fix but said they need to order a new window. Molding along the roof was cut short and dealer ordered new molding, waiting for other work to get this done. Window sticker on the front window is peeling, dealer ordered a new decal. A crack appeared in the back corner, passenger side. Awaiting approval for a body shop to fix it. Stairs had to be reinstalled because the door wasn't closing properly. A propane connection under the stove was loose and not even finger tight, which we noticed on our pre-purchase inspection and the dealer fixed. Also the screws around the electric cord receptacle outside the unit were rusty, dealer replaced.

We bought our Cougar 27SAB back in 2019 and still have it. We had many of the usual minor issues up front and they fixed them under warranty without any fuss. We have not had any issues since. Part of it is that we got a great price on the unit, as in 2019 the RV industry was tanking. That was a great time to buy. When you get a great price you are willing to wait for warranty repairs or just fix it yourself and be a lot more understanding and patient. My heart goes out to all the people that bought units in 2020 through now. You massively overpaid, and the units were being pumped faster than can be done and meet any sort of quality control. I would also have impossibly high expectations and little to no patience if I paid as much as you did. BTW, this is not a Keystone or any other brand specific problem. Once things slow down and prices crash owner experiences will suddenly get better. The other thing to say here is that 400W's of solar is not even worth drilling the holes in your roof. Even 800W's of solar is not enough. That's a starter kit. I hope you got that nearly for free.

I will now be requesting 100% replacement of both of these electrical boxes! Haven't even made a camping trip yet since picking up 1-1/2 weeks ago. Seriously this is so frustrating !!!

Just bought ‘23 KZ Sportsmen 231 5th wheel in May. Found 5 spots on roof where Dicor roof seal was not complete. Fixed those and covered all roof exit vents/holes with RV Roof Magic rubber paint yesterday. 3rd time using front power supports 30 amp fuse blew, not sure why. Hopefully just a bad fuse. Water dripping under sink, connection never fully tightened. Low point cold water drain does not drain water storage tank even though monitor shows half-full, still working on that one. Heat vents and fuse box filled with sawdust and debris. Our 7th RV in last 30 years. Feel as though the ‘90’s to early ‘00 were the best rv’s we owned. Probably our last. Would not recommend buying an RV to anyone. Constant DIY projects and maintenance to make sure nothing will happen. If you are not handy or don’t have the time/money to stay ahead of the problems then probably not the smartest move to buy one. One good thing. They are so cheaply made that a 6th grader could fix them.

The contact/wallpaper is bubbling/peeling off. It was in the shop for 4 months for this problem and it's still peeling. 3. HOW do you EMPTY 2nd Grey Water tank? Our gallery water is filled into the kitchen sink. Please help. 4. The electric jack has stopped working so we are stuck camping and can't load up our camper. I'm serious. 4. Bedroom door keeps falling off. We've paid a lot of money for this new camper trailer and we can't enjoy our camping trips.

I just spent 47 grand on a brand new Forest River Vibe 34xl. It has taken me months to fix all the things I found wrong. First I contacted dealer but wait times and negotiating what they would and wouldn't do was exhausting. I build houses for a living so I have the basic knowledge to fix everything. For starters I had to replace the on-demand water heater I made the dealer give me a brand new one and I just installed it myself. I had to go through the whole rig pulling access panels to tighten up plumbing fittings everywhere even the drain under the shower was loose. I knew going in that I'd have to button up a few things but I was really dismayed at how little care was taken on the build of this rig. I do have everything the way I want it now and love the rv. I will say if I ever buy one again I will do a better job inspecting everything on the walkthrough. I didn't look hard enough because I couldn't imagine that the things I found would be wrong. It's just sad when you spend almost 50 grand. Unfortunately I think this is the norm across the board with these brands and price point.

It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that units worked on by the same employees had a higher number of issues…….meaning those employees deliberately were doing half ass work…….or there is poor quality control in these factories. Potential buyers do watch these videos! Thanks for sharing your issues.

Previously had a 2014 Thor class C with dinette/closet slide. Great camper, no issues whatsoever. We thought we would upgrade to a 2023 29BH 5th wheel. The layout was nice and we have adult children. Thought this camper would last a long time because our neighbor has a cougar 5th wheel(15 years old and still going). We’ve already had a leak an multiple issues with this camper. Definitely not the quality of the Thor. Keystone does not stand behind their products. We’re basically on our own. I installed a slide topper and put a weatherstrip wiper along the bottom of the leaky slide and so far it seems to be dry. But, like I said, Keystone will not help us out at all. No way we should have a leak on a camper that’s less than one year old.

Yea we had a half dozen issues with my 2022 mini lite. Solar not hooked up we had to wire it ourselves to the controller, thermo-coupler broke for fridge, (again had to fix ourselves) leaks at kitchen sink and at the water tank entry point, All these repairs we had to fix ourselves. If we brought them into the dealer, the dealer would have the red for three months and probably not fix them correctly... Here is the thing these trailers are slapped together and ALL of them have a ton of bugs that need to be worked out. That’s disappointing, I will say once the bugs are worked out things seem to work excellently. It’s almost better to buy one a year old where somebody has worked out all of the issues because brand new they come with bugs, and no dealer support.

After fighting with them, I spoke with an another rv shop who advised that I ask them to unwind the deal and I did. It took some back and forth, but I got my money back and never looked back. I would never buy any form of travel trailer. Go to a few RV shows and pay attention to those that are falling apart. I literally saw someone sit back on a dinette and the back broke off behind them. Not happy campers were the potential customers or any of us that witnessed it. I bought what i believed to be the best class C from a great local family owned dealer in my midwest state. I let them handle the defects for the first year and then completely learned how to fix and service everything after that. Never missed a trip in 6 years. I know my limits and will also never go diesel even if i do eventually go class A. Moral of story is you need to be handy to own most units. And trips to the dealer will have you realizing pretty quick that scheduling apptmts, drop off and pick ups and being without your rig becomes a deal breaker when you want to maximize time in the parks or on the road.

Keystone is junk, I have had one for 4 months for work. Small cosmetic things to big things. Ok, #1 inshore power was bad and almost caught fire. Caused my cord to go bad. # 2 The fresh water tank starts leaking at the inside seam. 2 different spots. Half to replace the whole tank. # 3 and now the furnace went out this morning. That is the biggest thing. There are little things I have fixed. The sink fell on one corner. Back door shade busted. And the bathroom rollover came off the door.

I have a 2021 cougar 29 mbs. Several issues too. Table back breaking, water leak off water tank(belly got opened and never seal up good again), doors misaligned , screw came through on side in kitchen and damaged floor, frame bolts snapping and coming through vinyl floor in kitchen and latest slide in kitchen area wall screws broke by door(seem like they used drywall screws 2 ea to support this at the floor. Had to jack up frame in front to close gap and push wall in, then used some long self tapping bolts to anchor the wall. So far it is holding. I am sick of it. Took it to dealership once and they damaged the ladder, front gutter, tear in roof, the damaged bedroom slide and the water leak they said they couldn't find and used tape to hold belly together which came off firstime down road. Spend over $50k for nothing but problems. Keystone should have just replace the whole unit! Incompetence at the dealership is also sickening, a bunch people without any training I think, he'll they used silicon on the roof to repair it. I personally bought the proper roof sealant for it and redid it, the gutter diverter was basically glue on with silicone, loose when I got home.

Purchased new (2023) Cougar 1/2 ton (22MLS) on 4/28/2023. We are very happy with the layout of this model. I started prepping the trailer for our first trip. I found 3 issues: 1. Torn sheet metal under the doorway threshold, which could lead to bad water damage. (Repaired under warranty May 4) 2. Fresh water tank level does not work. (Repaired under warranty May 4) 3. Drop hitch too long. (Replaced May 12) Revised comments 5/18: More issue after our first trip. I do not think they did any pre-sale check before we purchased. This has become very disappointing. 1. Front Window area leaks and soaked the mattress 2. Front cargo area had 1/4 " standing water in it 3. Interior trim on slide fell apart. 4. Digital I command control panel FAILED with the slide out. No way to control any system on the trailer while in a very remote area of Wyoming. I disconnected the batteries from the unit during torrential rain to see if it would "re-set". Fortunately it did, but now continually asks for software update. Required software update. 5. Water pump pulsates and does not provide continuous water pressure. This makes the on demand hot water heater ineffective. Pressure regulator not set right at factory. 6. Flooring at entry way where original sheet metal was repaired is delaminated , wet, and damp. Water has worked its way under the flooring at the entry. Eventually dried out. 6/15 repair update: The source of the water leakes was traced back to marker lights have no silicone or seals. After a 2 week wait all other issues repaired 6/15. The dealer replace the previously soaked mattress. 2/28/2023 Second camping trip. Shower door (glass) fractured and broke. The water tank level indicator has a mind of its own and does not show correct levels (not even close), the dump valve T handle broke off, and underbelly insulation badly warped in the back. Now what? Taking it back for them to look at it. I am leaving this review at 1 star. Due to the VERY poor build quality of the Keystone Cougar and the dealership not doing a detailed pre purchase inspection prior to selling it to me. And having to deal with the very lengthy warranty repair cycle. We lost out on two planned and paid for trips due to the condition of the new trailer. Glad I am not living in it full time.
