Advice to people moving to Suffolk I would advise not looking for homes in the town of Babylon for example wyandanch, west babylon, anmityville, Copaiuge, north Babylon, Lindenhurst and deer park, the areas listed are drug infested and crime riddled with higher poverty rates that the rest of Suffolk, and exception for them to this would be Babylon village.

Such a shame i was very young but i remember the early 80s...big difference from how it looks the past decade...Giuliani chased them all out their dragging their BS with them...permanently destroyed the areas to make room for Vish

Is racism a problem out there? I'm a white guy with a Chinese wife and mixed son, and I'm worried about him getting treated like an outsider at school. I've always lived in big and diverse cities, so I don't know what the country is like, but I've read it's tough growing up as the only foreigner around.

I was waiting for racism to be mentioned as one of the factors. My husband works for the LIRR and he says racism IS a factor in some areas. This is one reason why we’re having difficulty finding a home in Suffolk County because the homes that meet what we’re looking for are in the areas that is not diverse.

My adoptive nephew complains of being one out of 4 black kids that he has seen in his school. He is in the 2nd grade. It is definitely predominantly white. We’re the only black family in our neighborhood so we stand out like sore thumbs and we get the occasional questionable look like we don’t belong but WE DO lol that mortgage and these bills let us know that we’re here and we are here for the loonngg haul.

Honestly, IMO and experience, it’s all about the attitude. Teach your son to have a sense of belonging to the East coast (especially, if he’s gonna be raised there for the foreseeable future) with a touch of American patriotism . FYI, “American” is a nationality; not an ethnicity or race. By all means be proud of your heritage. The reason why most people get heat is because they come in feeling entitled and espousing ethnic nationalism. Which a lot of Black and West Indie Hispanics do for no reason. But I’ve also seen/heard ethnic Chinese,Koreans,Filipinos and even Europeans (Scandinavians are high key racist) do this as well. If you’re coming to the East coast with a Californian’sk-liberal-west coast-“gender is a spectrum”-fake-pretentious state of mind, you’re NOT gonna fit in, whether you or your son are Asian, Dutch or half Purple. Hope this helps.

@Devil Mishima exactly, people create their own division. I wouldn't go to India and say "there's too many Indians we need to mix it up". If I was moving there and plan to make that country my home, I would try to mix in and embrace being Indian (kinda hard example because America is really the only place you can go and become that but you get my point) and take some pride in that or else why would I go there? That would bring the sense of community and feeling of belonging vs repping your Chilean flag and hanging out only with other Chileans for example.

@@OniMishima You are so wrong. Racism is a problem on eastern Long Island, and let's put the blame on the racist's mindset, not the people who are the victims of racism. Your remark was disgustingly racist with your accusation that "some people get heat because they come in feeling entitled and espousing ethnic nationalism..." You are a total asshole.
