You two are the sweetest couple!! Such a joy seeing young folks farming and raising food for their families. Oh, one thing I didn't hear you mention but nearly all southerners grow...okra! I love that. Tell you something an old farmer once told me to produce a bumper crop. He said every day you pick an okra pod, cut off the lowest leaf. Keep doing that every time you gather it. That okra plant will grow so tall you finally can't reach the top. Mine look like trees they get so tall. And the best way to freeze okra is to bag it whole without washing it. Washing it causes freezer burn. When you take out a bag from freezer, then wash it and slice for frying. Tastes fresh that way.

I went back in time watching you makin' biscuits and gravy. Momma made the gravy exactly that way and I never have been able to make mine come out without lumps. I learned how this mornin'! It's a wondrous thing that you kids are preserving how to live off the land the old down-home way with dignity and respect. I could go on and on, but just one little tidbit. I LOVE the kids "nicknames"! You are "two peas in a pod" with obvious love and Christian family values to be admired. Oops, that's five peas!

You two kids are living and raising your kids the right way, the old way, the out of fashion way! Glad to see that there is still some common sense in this world - It's March 2019 when I am watching this - Jared's spring garden episodes have had me looking at non -GMO seeds, especially Kentucky Wonders, French breakfast radishes and onion sets.

I grew up in Kentucky and my parents were exactly like you two. They made sure that we could all grow, preserve the veggies, fruits and berries. We can all also put meat on the table, livestock and wild game. Yes, the boys learned cooking and canning and us girls can hunt and trap. I am now 57 yo and have lived in a very big city up north for over 20 yrs. I still grow my own veggies and put some up for the winter but do not hunt. Thanks for the jaunt into my past.

OK; You got me. I shed a tear listening to Jared talk about his garden, and the way you talk. I love reading books of early American history. Life of Abe Lincoln when he was a rail splitter before he practiced law. Early American life of true pioneer people. Their hardships, babies lost, daily struggles. Simple ways and means. You sold corn and beans and a mule for your first guitar. Life isn't more humble and honest than that. But it's one thing to read about early American life, but here now in the 21sh century and with the technology of KZbin, I can honestly say, my understanding of early American life of people is still ALIVE AND WELL after all this time. Your handed down family traditions are wonderful to observe. And now you want to teach your children farming life...it's just all so great. God be with you and your family forever. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your wisdom.

I also get the oldest round bales around lay them out in 10-15 ft layers sections on top each other throw those potatoes under that then I personally throw just a fine layer old broke down manure over the to just to make it dark inside let this potatoes grow.... no digging just reach in when they die back. Hey guys! I do enjoy your videos. You mentioned you hate working potatoes. I feel you on that. lol One thing my dad done that made digging them a lot easier was he would use a bull tongue plow pulled by our horse. Once he got rid of his horses, he started using his 4 wheeler to pull it and it does a good job too. I hope you see this and it might make digging your taters a little easier. God bless you and your family. Oh, and my dad used to deliver fuel down in Inez a lot back in the day when he worked for the 83 Gas and Grocery. It is a small gas station just over the VA line. He would deliver home heating fuel and fuel to oil rigs in that area. Thanks again!

Awesome channel! You all are great! Everyone can learn so much about true homesteading from this channel. Please teach us everthing your parents taught you. I was raised in the city by my grandfather who grew up in the country eating, growing, and doing things like you all do.I was a teenager when he passed away and like a lot of kids I took things for granted and did not pay close attention to what he did. The things that you make and eat take me back to those days. Now I can pay more attention and learn from you. Again thank you for sharing with us how you live.

I really enjoy your videos. We have a small homestead in Whitley County, KY. We love to garden and I also don't eat raw tomatoes but I love to grow them and love them cooked in every form. My wife is a native of this area but I came here from FL. I love Appalachia and never want to leave. Country living is the life for me!!
