I love your advice, it has really helped me realize the message that I am sending with my clothes. I have neglected myself for so long and in an effort to be avoid being called "high maintenance" I had become NO maintenance. Your advice made me realize that the message I'm sending with my clothes is...I'm not worthy. I have decided to prioritize myself this year and allow myself to enjoy dressing in a way that asks for respect. Thank you for your awesome videos! It's about so much more than fashion ❤

I'm well past my 30s, but I still found this useful. Especially when it comes to guilt. I am still struggling with finding a balance between practical/comfort and stylish and expressing my style. I am limited by a tiny budget, but I have items in my wardrobe that I hesitate to wear because in the back of my mind I'm questioning if it's practical or maybe I don't have shoes that go as well as I'd like, but if I wore it, I'd still feel good. But I will turn instead to something safe. If that makes sense.

My issue with my wardrobe as of late is accepting my weight gain. I have beautiful pieces that went together and matched my personality perfectly, but now I'm trying to decide between buying a whole new wardrobe to match my new size, or try to lose 20 pounds to fit into my old, beautiful clothes. I think alot of people can relate to gaining the COVID-19-pounds 😅

this is a difficult situation that I can only infer has been influenced by both the body changes and the financial investment it requires, rather than give an immediate answer I have to ask: what do those clothes mean to you? what exactly do you find hard to accept? (Is it the visual you give, the fit, the stress of feeling you ‘need’ to fit old clothes?) and how is your current wardrobe different? it’s hard to accept anything much less changes in our body but at the end of the day the clothes are meant to fit you, you do NOT need to fit the clothes; i want to believe you’ll find beautiful clothes that match your personality and also make you feel confident regardless of your shape now. If it’s a financial concern, find 2-3 nice pieces now so that you have something that’s matching you as you decided what to do next.

When I was 22, I inherited two beautiful silk embroidered Japanese coats from my Grandmother. They didn't work with my style back then but I loved them for sentimental reasons and because I just knew a time would come. They started appearing in my mid-30's as a coat I could wear over that little black dress in the evening. I have cherished them even though I might only wear them twelve times a year. I have realised that friendships are the same ... Some of my most valuable are American friends that I don't get to see every week. Wonderful piece, Bethany x

Thank you for reminding us that we "have a right to take up space"! Women especially can feel the opposite, even us mature ladies. I hope you don't mind me stealing this phrase from you when my teen needs a self esteem pep talk. Luckily for her though, she has a much stronger sense of style than I did at her age, no matter the trends. Frilly, floral and feminine to her core!

I’m 25 and I’ve worked in jobs where most people I work with are much older than me. I do really believe that your style sends a message because I never feel like I’m treated like I’m younger because I’ve developed a “mature” sense of style. So many people compliment me on my style and outfit and even though I dress for myself, it’s so nice to hear!

I just love your message and heart in what you do! I’ve realized in the last few months that I do not want to be “effortless” in the way that I don’t have to try. I want my style to be perceived as caring, attentive, and aware. Recently, a couple of people I know told me that I dress in such a thoughtful way and present myself likewise. This encouraged and warmed me on so many levels. It was so much more than the clothing I was wearing! It revealed that how I dress and present myself therein, others can see where my heart is at and how I live my life. It’s truly exciting what you’re doing and wonderfully impactful, especially in a time where so many have opted to blend in for comfort. It kind of reveals that we truly do dress for others rather than ourselves. During this whole pandemic, I maintained getting dressed every day, putting on some make up, making sure my hair looks neat. Because I have a little kids watching as well and it wasn’t for others, it was for me. Keep on keeping on Bethany! Much love! 💗

I love your passion! As a much older woman who taught high school for many, many years, I totally agree with you on the importance of knowing that the way you dress tells people who you are. I love the way you have gone deeper about the importance of curating your relationships, friends, home, etc. You are extremely wise for a young woman. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with young and older women alike. I wish you and Zack continued success! ❤️

Guilt is a huge thing. I’m so glad you brought that up. When I buy an expensive piece that is quality and someone finds out the price and gives a reaction, I feel guilty and annoyed at the comment. So what I bought something beautifully made that I love and the person who made it actually got a proper wage. So great point Bethany. Love from NZ

It's crazy, I've been coming to the exact same conclusion on my own, I'm just about to turn 29 in a week so I totally get what you mean about finding your voice and expressing it, and how fashion and clothes are just another mean to express yourself and understand who you are, and why do you like what you do? , what makes you, YOU?!. I loved every second of this process of growing up and existing, and I thought I was the only one haha, so it's kinda cool to know that others understand and see clothes the same way I do. Thank you for sharing

This is so true! I'm 32 and I finally have let go in trying to fit in and I'm wearing what I love . If I don't love it or it fits weird I donate it or get it tailored. I buy intentionally to fill a space or need in my closet that I don't have. Recently I decided I am done wearing skinny jeans that dig into me so I bought some slim fit straight pair. I also like some vintage and historical styles and I'm slowly bringing them into my style. It's freeing !

I wish I had understood/started thinking about style this way when I was your age! Especially, your first point about using style as your voice. WOW. It's becoming apparent to me that dressing well and to express yourself is actually an act of self love. It's been so inspiring and helpful to me to watch your and other youtube style mavens break down how to have a stylish wardrobe; something I have always aspired to, but never learned at home, so it seemed...out of reach and impossible. The thing that I appreciate about you in particular is that you really express your individuality through your clothing. I Love all the ideas you're sharing in this video. Thank you Bethany!

I’m so glad I found this video! I’m definitely taking these tips into my clothing style because I still feel like I’m so lost … I never had a certain style in my 20s and just went with whatever I thought looked good and since I just turned 30 last year I’m still trying to figure it out … and with the changes of my body as I got older … I’m wanting to dress in a minimalist and elegant and classy but expressive way , like having a style that stands out but yet is different than what is fast fashion but yet calm and presentable way for my age … idk if it makes sense .. I want to look my age but I don’t want to look to juvenile or clothes that age me …

Having just turned 30 this year, 2 thoughts struck me most: thinking about your closet as a collection (this one is really going to change how I shop forever), and giving yourself permission to take up space. As you're growing up, you discover yourself, but a lot of people try to say "settle down now" and you're absolutely right: you have to stand your ground. Thank you for this video!

Hi Bethany, What I love about your channel is that you show respect for yourself by what you say, how you act and, yes, what you choose to wear. I am someone who believes that how you dress immediately conveys to others a level of self respect. So many times you see young women dressed in ways that IMO show a lack of self respect. It comes in their choice of clothing. Too much exposure of skin IMO sends the wrong message. Is it their style or is there something more going on? I believe it is the latter. Bethany, you have so much class and the way you dress sends a message of ‘I respect myself.’ Your style is the younger version of me but I still prefer it as I get older and choose pieces that reflect it. Congratulations on being a wonderful example for young women (and yes we older women too!)

Its so Beautiful to being able to internally connect with someone you have never met in person but that person does have a special place in your Life, This is for you Bethenny! One of the most amazing feeling is when someone brings up an Impactful point above the surface, that deep down one allways experienced but wouldn't just realise it so consciously as one does when that special person offers such deep analysis so simplified, In context with the "Power of a piece of Dress" with respect to the memories woven in its threads and re cherishing those by feeling great full for that experience, it can be a self expression of celebrating Life, couldn't see this without you unfolding the blind fold, Thank You Bethenny !

This video is full of great quotes! I love how you describe how clothes are empowering and a real tool to commande respect, that's how I've always felt about my clothes, but too many times I tried to be the cool girl and follow trends that never served me because I didn't feel like myself wearing them. It's so true that when you're 30, you start to really know who you are and you let others be okay or not rather than adapting.

I was not able to join your class because I paid my brother's property taxes which left me at limited budget this month and probably next few months. There were so many thought-provoking moments in this video, Bethany. I've observed the same in my thirties - I don't mind a bit if I stand out with my dress being different than every other woman around me. And yes - regardless of whether it's "right" or "wrong," the way we present ourselves DOES tell people how to treat us, and I've been surprised to experience that over and over. I love that "who is she?" phrase you repeat on your channel. It often comes to my mind when I consider wearing a hat or sunglasses or something unique. ;) Being able to spend more time on fewer, more precious things is a lesson I've learned, too - and it was funny to hear you use college friends as an example, because I did the exact same thing! In that new environment and social opportunity, I wanted to be friends with EVERYONE...and I was...but upon graduation, I realized there were only a couple girls I would keep in touch with long-term. Watching this video makes me want to take the style masterclass all over again! I enjoyed it SO MUCH the first time around, and I know it's something worth revisiting every year, at least. :)

Guilt is definitely something I struggle with in my closet. If I buy something (especially if it's expensive) and it ends up being something I don't like/don't wear, I always feel guilty and lose confidence in my ability to make wardrobe choices for myself. I'm working towards just recognizing every "mistake" as just the trial and error process of finding my personal style, but it isn't easy!

I am so happy that I found your channel while I am in my early twenties. I feel like my future self will be so thankful for that. You help me get on the right track on intentionally getting to know myself through my style and purchasing the right clothing for me. What I love about you is that you never made me feel like I need to purchase what you have but more like you’re sharing your thought process and I should try to apply that to myself. You are so inspiring and helpful!! I’ve been practicing your style tips and I feel more confident about myself! I appreciate what you do. 🤍

Guilt doesn't belong in my wardrobe. Strongly agree! Even for things that I literally never wear, I feel happy just owning them and trying them on. They can wait for a perfect occasion that might never happen

I wanted to improve my style this year but I recently became pregnant. Can you do a video on maintaining good style during a temporary season of life?

I've been in pregnancy fluctuations the entire time I've been watching Bethany's channel - for years! Haha! I dream of the day I can order myself a well-fitting pair of wide-leg, high-waisted pants, but in the meantime, I've focused on cardigans, jewelry, shoes, hats, and other accessories, as well as fine-tuning my preferences in fabrics, colors, and undergarments as I keep a capsule wardrobe that is easy to transition with my body changes. I hope that gives you some encouragement, @SaintHannahs, but I second your request for a "good style in temporary seasons" video from Bethany! :) I'm sure it would be extremely inspirational!

Very inspiring thank you i'm realising a lot of things about me and the messages I'm sending to myself and others with my clothers. I recently bought a new hat in my favorite colour very different as not normally wearing hats, had some wonderful comments from strangers.

Hi Bethany, I found this video so poignant and meaningful, I love that you make content that is unique - I'm sure not an easy thing to do on KZbin! I am loving your personal style course, and I would love to see a video where you talk about how you care for the pieces in your closet. Since I've started investing more in quality clothing, I feel like I'm missing that information about how to care for it properly to make it last. Would you consider doing something like this?

Can you recommend literature talking about the points you mentioned in this video? I always find when I hammer a point in by reading I understand it fully. It would be nice to have a short video of you recommending a fee books and a brief abstract of each.

I’m 29 & as I shop for clothes I get so nervous about what to buy and usually from what section. I shop in juniors still & feel embarrassed and confused. I like the laid back/relaxed look and looking nice as well; a nice dress, nice clothes for daily wear, a sophisticated blouse here & there. It’s so confusing and sometimes stressful.
