I’ve had a precipitation shaft happen to me before! My dad and I were in the garage, fixing my bike. Keep in mind, it was a relatively cloudy day in the middle of summer, and we weren’t getting a lot of rain. However, when our backs were turned to the opening of our garage, we heard a loud sound of wind, and what sounded like rain. I turned my head around first to see a square of rain, move from my dads car on the driveway, to my grass in my front yard, then down the street, almost as if it was driving a car in the rain. It lasted for maybe a minute, but after it stopped, my dad and I went out to see what the hell happened. Yes, everything was actually wet, which we didn’t believe at first, and there was just a random line of water in the middle of the street. It also moved so fast, with a lot of agility and graceful-ness. Weirdest yet coolest thing I think I’ve ever experienced.

Happened to me once too, when I was about 12. I was in my parents horse pasture and it was partly cloudy and suddenly I saw it begin to rain somewhat in front of me but only within a small area (like maybe 6 ft or so). It wasn't coming down really hard though, more like a soft summer rain. I ran over to it, intrigued, and played around with it, running in and out of it. After a few minutes, it moved out of the pasture and across the road. It was one of weirdest things ever lol.

Here in Montreal, weather can be quite dynamic. One winter, some years ago, it was beginning to snow over my neighborhood in Downtown Montreal. (I live in a 20 story tower) We had a precipitation shaft open up, just next to my building, And the cloud opened up and dropped copious amounts of snow on one specific spot, like on the car in this video. You could see the cloud drop from the sky, and then zip open, and made the dump. It lasted for a few minutes. The other dynamic system is the Micro Burst. It stormed one day here in the city, it rained all over, but a micro burst dropped on a park not far from my home, the entire park was destroyed, the century trees were snapped like twigs. The Micro burst fell within the confines of the park, and it devastated the houses fronting the park as well, but no further.

The two ef4 tornadoes that happened in Nebraska weren't multi vortex. Those are two tornadoes that came from the same supercell. A multi vortex tornado is when the tornado is like halfway to 3/4 of the way down and little vortices start spinning up on the ground like the Katiewoods tornado or like El Reno when the meso got pretty low to the ground and started putting out multiple vortices after vortices until they combine to make one big tornado.

The most powerful known fire whirls were created during allied bombing raids on Germany and Japan in WW2. During operation Gomorrah in July 1943, the ignition of incendiary bombs dropped on Hamburg created a fire whirl 1000 feet high with winds of 150mph that destroyed much of the city killing 19000 people, most of whom were in air raid shelters as the fire whirl sucked out all of the oxygen and flooded them with carbon monoxide. Hundreds of people were also seen being sucked into the vortex and immediately incinerated.

The Pilger storm wasn't a multi-vortex tornado. It was 2 totally separate tornadoes spawned from the same supercell system. Multi-vortex refers to smaller subvortices (mini-vortexes) rotating around or within the main vortex/parent circulation, and typically occur at the beginning of the initial touchdown. Not to be nitpicky, but that distinction should be made, as these 2 were fairly large and a good distance apart. Go watch the very beginning of the record breaking 2.6 mile wide El Reno tornado, as there aren't many better examples of multi-vortex than that...
@futureofgeographyАй бұрын
Wrong, all tornadoes are multi-vortex, multi-vortex tornadoes are just tornadoes where these subvortices separate because the tornado is just so large and violent, they are always there
@YOUfailME9112 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe the Nebraska twins were one multi vortex tornado. Multiple vortex tornadoes are essentially one funnel cloud that has multiple vortices that circulate around it. I was recently on a cruise. We had just came from the Bahamas and we had arrived at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. My mom and I were on the beach when I heard thunder and mentioned it to her. She came back from taking pictures in the ocean, sat down, and saw lighting. That was our cue to go back on the ship. We arrive back at the ship about 5 minutes later and we go to sit on the deck. The doors open and the pools are being closed as we sit and relax due to it being very cloudy but still warm. As we are sitting and I’m eating my ice cream. My mom points out the water spout she sees alongside the rain right by it. All of a sudden I see 3 other water spouts and they are coming our way. It was absolutely crazy seeing the rain come by way. I have pictures and videos. The temperature dropped and it got extremely windy. The ship was drenched in rain and we had stayed in our room the duration of the day due to how much rain was being picked up by the spout that was closest to us.

My dad and I drove through a precipitation shaft when I was really young. For years I thought I was going crazy. But ya, it only rained on us and it was baffling.

One thing I thought was quite rare was in some parts of Queensland they had around 675 MM of rain in 12 hours. That is the average yearly rainfall for my area of Victoria, some of that heavy rain has even come down to victoria, it is the remnant of Tropical Cyclone Seth.

When we lived in Germany and I am not sure what year it was but between 1978. We went to the Black Forest area of Germany. It snowed on a bright clear day - not a cloud in the sky and it was not just blowing snow either.

It wasn't caught on camera as far as I know, but I once walked home from school and there was thunder snow. The sky was as black as can be in daytime. Snow was coming down and I heard thunder while a lightning bolt hit the river behind my house in the distance.

I'm guessing the crown flash happens when the ice crystals change direction due to wind, like how a school of shiny fish does.

5:00 Is it possible for two tornadoes to collide into each other?

Precipitation shaft happened to me when i was little lol My mom and i walked out of a pizza shop and i noticed it was raining (fairly light, but noticeable enough to see the drops). But then when we walked into the parking lot, there was no rain (and it was raining only right in front of the store’s awning. Completely dry to the left and right as well). So my mom and I were just dumbfounded lol I remember her saying it reminded her of the rainclouds in cartoons Weird thing abt my experience was that it was sunny everywhere else 😳 Glad to know there’s a name for it and that I’m not the only one who experienced it haha

Sounds odd but just yesterday It was dark storm clouds, (dark blue) and everytime it rained or poured hard the sun kept coming out. Once the rain stopped it would be sunny for 5/10min and then it would look stormy against then sunny when it rained. It kept happening lol

The second video are actually two separate tornadoes. A multi vortex tornado is one tornado that has multiple vortexes within one funnel.
@lolasmom58162 жыл бұрын
Nope. It would still fall within being a multi vortex. Both tornadoes are in the same storm. They are both still traveling around the same center. They are just much bigger and have some distance. They arent completely seperate independent tornadoes. Scary huh?
@rolypoly49202 жыл бұрын
@@lolasmom5816 Even if they are in the same storm, these two tornadoes were considered separate tornadoes. Storms often produce several tornadoes at a time, but that doesn't mean they are all considered they same. Each of these had their own meso in the clouds that formed them. The two mesos formed closed together in the same clouds, but they were separate. There are longer videos showing the storm's formation prior to the tornadoes forming that shows it more clearly. I want to say there were like a dozen storm chasers present for the Pilger tornadoes.
@hvadskalvihedde25122 жыл бұрын
@@lolasmom5816 These were two seperate tornadoes- Multiple vortex tornadoes tend to directly dance untill they finally emerge together while these didn't Infact both tornadoes had velocity couples gliding at each other while a multiple vortex tornado only has one tornado signature on doppler radar regarding the tornado In other words these twins also had twin couplets
