The itch can be alleviated with cleanliness and products. You can grow a beard in and still keep it looking neat. It just takes longer. Most men have patchy beards. But it does fill in over time. Sometimes it takes several months. Some of the hairs on your face take way longer to grow than the rest. They could be significantly slower.

My question for Beardbrand: How much BEARD improvement can someone expect to see from age 26. A lot of guys reach their full potential during their early-mid 20s, but what improvements can a guy like me expect to see as I go into my 30s? Currently all I have is sideburns and neck beard. No moustache and very little hair on my front face. I do have smaller hairs on my face and cheek and I'm hoping that one day these will turn into terminal hairs.

I'm growing for the first time and just recently started doing a handlebar mustache. I got a lot of flack from people at work and family but just do it. it's mainly cuz it's big change and they're not used to seeing you like that the longer you have it he more they'll quiet down. then guess what they'll do the same thing when you shave it off. "where'd it go? why'd you shave?" if they keep saying it looks bad after month it probably looks bad or just need to groom it like you said Greg. I'm 47 and growing a beard for the first time in my life. You give me hope, I've seen the 40 years video, and your beard pattern is a lot like mine, same patchy spots around the goatee area etc. If yours can grow in like it did, I figure I'd be happy at 70% of that. And if you're someone watching this that is self-conscious about the gray, which I am, especially considering I'm grayer than most at my age, you can always dye your beard, or like I do, use something like Volt beard coloring which you just comb in, and it doesn't cover all the gray, it just blends in your natural hair color into your beard, you can leave as much or as little gray as you want.

With relationships, the biggest positive of long distance was beard-growability. I grew it while we were apart for school and she didn't like it. I kept it that summer, she did not like it. I had to shave it when I went back to school for marching band and suddenly, agree missed it. We're getting married in June and she told me for the wedding "long stubble minimum, but I want a beard". Not everyone goes long distance, but speaking from personally experience, she was adamantly against it and now is my (second) biggest beard advocate. Get them to let you try it at least and they may really miss it once it's gone.

@markleone67005 жыл бұрын
Yep. Those are pretty much the five classic responses. Here's something really interesting about the opposition some men tend to get from their significant other regarding growing a beard. I have met a lot of women who were vehemently against their husband or boyfriend growing a beard at first. But then their opinions eventually changed and they grew to appreciate and even like the beard over time because many other people around that guy gave some positive signaling about how flattering the beard is and how good it looks on him. So I think that more often than not, a good portion of the reason why many women are against their significant other growing a beard is not so much a fear of what the beard will look like on him, but rather, a fear of what both his peers and (probably moreso) HER peers think about that beard. She's essentially worried about how it might be a reflection on her. I've seen women change their opinion once they realize that more people are on board with the beard than she originally assumed.

I'm always so conflicted when growing my beard, week 3 it looks horrendous but soon as I hit week 8 all the patches are more or less filled in 🤷🏼♂️ I'm trying to just leave it alone this year, I do a britney spears and when life gets too stressed or previous traumas flare up in my mind, I just hack away at my beard 😑

I’m military and unfortunately have never had a chance to grow out my beard longer than maybe 30 days because of it. I’m nearing 30 and just had some surgery and have been given around 8 weeks of time off so now I’m really getting my first chance to grow out my beard to see what I look like for the first time. 4 weeks in an I’m liking my progress.

Greg all these reasons are spot on. Ive heard many of these before. I grow my beard and hair out. my beard is pretty patchy, especially the connector on one side. once its fully grown out, you really cant notice the patches unless youre searching. the whole is greater than the sum of its parts

When I grow up I want a beard like King Greg. I'm 30 and still rock peach fuzz that you get at 14😂
@nabranestwistypuzzler70195 жыл бұрын
Rob Gallagher That’s not a peach fuzz. A peach fuzz is when you practically can’t see it. That’s a full length beard. I actually have a peach fuzz because I’m 15, except I have a few chin hairs, my sideburns are spreading, and my mustache is a brown fuzz that’s getting thicker.
@d-rockanomaly92435 жыл бұрын
Yeah man you ain't doing so bad! What's funny is my facial hair has thickened a lot in the past 3 years. I'm 30 too. I just assumed it was done by that point.

My tip for patchiness, or that "awkward first month", is to get a pair of clippers. Every 3 or 4 days, trim your bead, and just take of a bit to get it all even. Some patches or whiskers grow much slower for some, so if you continually trim it will fill the beard out more as it grows, albeit at a slower pace overall. Also, of course, every time you shave, extend the clippers to the next longest setting, or a couple settings, just enough to mow down all the faster growing hairs. My beard looks like a nice shadow when I do this for the first bit not patchy. Eventually it will be too long not notice any hair length differences, or they will be too long to clip anyhow. This won't make a massive difference, or help everyone but makes a difference for me.

Actually for me the itch us mostly from when my beard get long enough that it kind of curls back and pricks at your face.
@Malakith5 жыл бұрын
Yea had the same thing. A couple weeks in it starts to sting you, but after a while it gets long enough to not to that anymore.
@wolfe1978nm4 жыл бұрын
I found that at that stage you can use things like cortisone or psoriasis cream. It softens your beard and takes away that itch. It is still there if you have that obsessive beard stroking like I do, but much easier and softer. Start using "real" beard products once it is long enough to need to start shaping it.

Malakith wait is that why my moustache area keeps feeling irritated even after washing it? I thought in might be dryness but I do had thick hair that curls back

I’ve grown a beard for the first time in my life at the age of 50. It’s completely white. My wife isn’t a huge fan, as she says it makes me look older but its growing on her. Other people tell me quite often it makes me look more distinguished and they love it.

Scott Crye Ditto, Scott. I just had to power through her nagging and whining the first 2 months. What I think has helped transition her, is the amount of other women that compliment me now, that have known me for years as clean shaven. Nothing like a little female insecurity to get them wound up, and finding it to be “ok” now. I like it, and that’s what matters to me.

@@stn6408 I'm 23 and never was able to grow facial hair. During the last few months I noticed new hair on my face, maybe it starts zu grow now. It's still very thin, but it grows very fast and maybe it gets thicker later. Never give up, never stop dreaming. Btw. I'm blonde and blonde people have a weaker beard grow naturally.

I would love to grow my beard longer but I am only 25 and my beard has big patches that don’t grow much hair. When I grow out my beard past about 2 weeks, it looks really patchy. Maybe in the future when I’m older it will fill in more. Hopefully!
@TheBlackSwordsman85 жыл бұрын
I don't know how big patches you have, but you should try growing for at least a month. Mine looked patchy at the 2 week mark too, especially the mustache. The thing is that there were many blonde hairs in between, and they will turn darker as they grow. Having saved it for about a month it has filled out a lot.
@that90sjay5 жыл бұрын
TheCoonEC oh trust me I have grown it out past 2 weeks, I grew it for 5 months last year without trimming it at all and it never completely filled in and I still had big bald/patchy spots. So until my beard fills in more I probably won’t be growing it out past 2 weeks again. I can grow a killer mustache though so I always keep that.
@markkabat78785 жыл бұрын
All great points Greg. I'll be full grey by the time I'm 50, silver by the time im 60, its all in the genes. Growing a full beard out before i lose all my natural color. It blends with my hair well though. Toughest part is keeping it tidy, its definitely challenging and has become a labour of love.
