My biggest critique about how FDev handled Elite is that the whole game feels like FDev took a lot of time to actually make the game and create a ton of assets for it...... and then underutilize them. A lot of the complaints I have seen from the community at large wouldn't require FDev actually make anything new, just utilize existing assets more.

I have often said that the primary difference between Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous is that Star Citizen is a half-finished game built with full effort, and Elite Dangerous is a fully-finished game built with half effort. It's probably not a surprise to anyone that the first time I ever heard of "Minimum Viable Product" was in the context of FDev and Elite Dangerous.

If FDev went into making Elite to have even a bit of what Star Citizen is trying to do it would be so much better. Ship interiors, planets that arent just barren, more unique ships and it would be great.

sometimes i feel like frontier just made elite by accident, like they don't realize they made a really good game, and have no clue what makes it a good game, so they randomly put the spotlight on parts that are not good like it's the best thing in the game, and randomly ignore parts that are already great and should be expanded upon.
@a.p.2356 Жыл бұрын
I get the distinct impression that most of the people working there have not played their own game all that much. Playtesting sure, but I think the average viewer of this channel has far more time logged in Elite than most of the devs do. That's why a lot of the early game stuff tends to work reasonably well (tutorials, basic flight controls, missions and early credit progression, un-engineered ships, etc), but a lot of the late game stuff is poorly implemented, buggy, or just not fun (multicrew/NPC crewed fighters, grindy engineering, fleet carrier UI, the grind to unlock guardian weapons, the unbelievably buggy thargoid CZ's, etc). I think a lot of that stuff is tested enough in isolation to make sure it *kinda* works, but unlike us nerds the developers don't spend hundreds of hours on it. Or maybe more cynically, they care more about early game content because that's how they draw new players in. They do not care as much about late game stuff, because by the time we've sunk that much time into the game, they've already made their money.
@niscent_ Жыл бұрын
@@a.p.2356 game devs never have a lot of play time on their game, their job is developing not playing. to make good works, the dev have to still know the ins and out of their game well, even if they are not skilled in playing it, and they listen to some extent to the feedback of either payed testers or their players as is. clearly, frontier have very little clues about their own game, and how it works. you don't need to play the game to know that in the files it takes exactly those components to build a given weapon, that thsoe components are obtained that way, that they have that specific drop rate, that the drop occurrence is that time frame, that it must takes approximately this specific time to farm those, that the different components are obtainable in areas that are that far appart, that the exact travel time you have to add is this, and so on, so forth. they know how engineers work, they know the exact distance between them, they know the limits of remote engineering. they just have a different plan. i think they are very confused as to how they want to design their game altogether. we, as player are playing a game made up of sets, we plan for a build, we plan well, and we put it together, then use it, never modify it, store it to use another ship with another fitting, come back to the first one when you need it, and so on. you find that pattern in monster hunter once people understand how the game work (so in the end game), in eve online, make a build, use it, never modify it, eventually make a completely new more advanced build later. frontier seem to have in mind an incremental take on your build. first you buy a new more advanced ship and you're super duper happy, then you upgrade all it's components and it gets better, then you meet some cool engineers and modify your ship, and so on... like a skyrim player buying a new armor, then upgrading, then enchanting, doing the same for his sword too. the problem is that wen you buy a new ship it's a blank slate with no capabilities, not a strong player with high level skills and perks... so the gameplay loop of upgrading the ship that they have in mind works really well, but it discourage changing ship. and now that comment is about to become a fucking essai, but why doesn't it work? and why did they make it that way if it doesn't work? it's because the game is incremental, before engineers and tech brokers, you would grind, buy a better new ship that is comparable to your current upgraded ship, grind more and slowly upgrade components, and start over until you have the best ship you want. then they added unique models and modifications through tech brokers and engineers, so you take that perfect end game ship you always used before and go on a journey for tech and engineering. the reason why it's not as obvious with odyssey is just that odyssey is completely disconnected from the previous game. in a sense the issue is that you're expected to "finish" the game called "elite dangerous" before playing elite dangerous horizons, and yet you're not incited to. they design their game like it's wow, and fail to realize it plays like eve online...

Totally agree with you about the transition from ship to surface. I always chuckle about how "people don't want ship interiors because it would get boring after a while getting in and out" but apparently we really want to walk 60 seconds from our ship to the elevator doors?
@TemalCageman Жыл бұрын
To be fair, I would want a "transit to Concourse" button. The MAIN problem with the marketing of ED-Odyssey when it comes to this was that they talked about the "Armstrong moment" when you first set your foot on the planet. We all know that moment, when he climbes down the ladder and set his his foot on the moon. This was the worst marketing moment in the history of ED so far. It is more of a "Captain Kirk" moment, when you are teleported to the ground. If they had marketed it as such, then I think people would have been more calm about it, imho.

@@vorpalrobot or during a battle. You know to make multi-crew fun and interesting. Sadly the online component felt like it was added for anti-piracy not player or gameplay benefit (players can't even transfer money for cargo) - so it's a poor single player experience with none of the benefits they could be doing AND with none of the benefits of a player driven economy and multiplayer group stuff. Also the fact it's peer-to-peer networking means it may be poor at that too, depending on the connections involved.

Elite's mission statement has not changed since 1984 - and RIGHTLY so. It is a fantastic, unique experience - but it's not for everyone !!!
@sidrat2009 Жыл бұрын
FDEV are responsible for two brilliant phrases. "The Armstrong Moment" is I believe the most recent, but there's the timeless classic of "We don't want to force one playstyle upon the players". Or something along those lines. This was when mining the egg was the best way to earn credits. My Main gripes with Elite Dangerous can be summed up thusly. 1. The online requirement adds nothing to the game. BGS I know is a thing and that may be real, but I'm not in one system enough to notice the changes. As it is online it doesn't have the epic story missions that you could add to a single (or group play) player environment. If you do want to play with other people there is no real reason to do so. Sure PvP can be fun but only because the controls, graphics and audio is awesome. Other than that, there is no reason to fight, there is no economic reason, no resource control. The only reason for the online element is to prevent piracy. 2. Lack of polish/re-iterations of existing gameplay loops to intertwine the entire game in to one complete whole. Stuff has been added to the game that exists outside of everything else in the game. Add in the monstrosity that is engineering and the commodity collection by Exigeous from December 2019 is still valid today. Imagine if any other multiplayer game rested upon their laurels like that. Take EvE there has been ore rebalances and re-distribution a few times throughout the course of it's lifespan. Players are of course annoyed but they crack on, scan what they scan and use that to determine the worth of the system/region. Of course as stated above it's a single player game with optional group play included (poorly). So let's look at the game mechanics from a single player experience. Engineers provide a random amount of upgrade per run, with the exception of the experimental feature. Ironic huh, an experimental feature works 100% of the time. Also if you want to increase your Frame Shift Drive, you have to travel 300+ light years from the starting system in order to qualify. Yes let's make the player do the hard way the very thing they're trying to compensate for. Sweet. In order to upgrade your weapons you need to complete combat stuff and win 15 times. Again FDEV management has decided to force the player in to a game play area they know they need better equipment for but can't until they git gud without the said upgrades. FDEV should listen to the head slaps from their dev team when mandated decisions are passed out. 3. NPC Corporations - the minor ones that you find in one or a handful of nearby systems. There are thousands of them. As such it doesn't matter who you annoy or befriend because you're unlikely to be in the same system for too long anyway. A single system as far as I know doesn't provide a player with all aspects of the content people can play i.e G5 manufactured materials with a moon you can land on that can provide G4 Raw materials, along with combat mission and passenger missions. Which is a good thing, but it does limit the scope for number 4. 4. There is feeling of belonging. There is no story, telling you why you should support one super power over another or why that NPC corporation is more interesting than the others. There's no empathy. The written Galnet articles could be interesting but there is no single player story arc for a corporation at any scale. The mission board should be full of Tragedy and Epics on a personal level, but who cares to remember a thousand names and pretty awful character portraits? Saying that I took a mission to gather some ore at a particular location but they warned me there were pirates inbound to ensure I wouldn't complete the contract. I took my combat ship and took them out, docked up and got in to the mining ship and mined the required ore and completed the mission. Why was the ore so important for two people to lose their life over? Why was the ore so specifically from that area (because it spawned in purely for the mission). Why was there no opportunity to interact with the NPC's to see if they had a better deal - I'm sure this happened a lot in Frontier: Elite 2 and it was something. Why can't we EVA and explore wrecks in space? Longer story lines could be sold as DLC for those that want it. It could introduce new modules or even ships. 5. The two previous Elite games were based on, Trade, Fight, Explore which is where the 4X game idea comes from, Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate. Four pillars that describe a simulated economy with events and characters you believe in and can empathise with. 6. The most grievous of all is Braben making statements that imply there are things out there that people haven't found yet. He can say that as he has the data of what systems and planets have been visited. Once the content is game ready they can put it in any place no one has visited and then sprinkle clues via Galnet. Ohh poor CMDR BadLuck a 6ly jump to that system and you would have found it 3 years ago when you passed nearby. This is as usual a long diatribe of thoughts as I know the game could be memorable, wonderful, epic, timeless and there are no shortage of stories available. But it's not a gripe against the developers, it's poor management by a person or group of people who themselves don't play computer games, and if they do, not for the same reasons other people do.

Absolutely, fuck yes. Thanks for writing that all out. You, sir join the ranks of gamers passionate about ELite - see the ugly caterpillar and dream about the butterfly. Personally I suspect it comes down to resources... FDev's team is often (always) busy working on some other games' content... and so one game rarely gets content updates at all. I'm kinda glad there is not much community in game. I play exclusively in solo mode because the few people I ever ran across in open were all gankers, 100%. Open world PvP always attracts the worst people. Now I know there are also good people in open, but they don't outweigh the massive negative of the gankers. Look at the Robigo run. I tested this out twice in open, both times there were 3 or more gankers just hanging out waiting to kill a players who they knew were in a passenger ship. Why? Don't really care, because I wouldn't want to play with that type of person anyway, LOL!

100% agree - and the worst part is that there is absolutely NO reason to grief other players. You don't get their stuff, there's no special engineering materials provided for destroying another player's ship, they haven't implemented any kind of PvP encouraging events or whatever where you could choose a side and earn rewards by winning against other players... if you hunt down and destroy other players (especially when they're running AX builds that can't even fight back), you are simply an asshole ruining other people's day.

Totally agree on the material grind. Hopping from emissions signal to another is boring, and so is grinding mats at crash sites and refreshing the game. I'd add another thing : The fact that we need limpet controllers for every type of action and can't have it all in one, or maybe even integrated in the ship. I don't want to sacrifice 3 internal slots just so that I can refuel allies, hack data terminals and collect flying stuff. At each kill we do, we have to spend a solid minute maneuvering around the floating materials to gather them, or waste internal space to fit a collector limpet controller...
@tomfoolery1967 Жыл бұрын
What's really bad about this is the grind is horrific even with constantly logging out and instantly respawning the materials. Now try to go gather materials with a friend in order to do something together. You, what? Both just constantly log in and out of the game because there is no way in heck you're getting anyone to sit around for actual respawn times of materials. It's crazy and basically turns the game into a single player game. I can't get anyone I know to play with me.

But we've watched Elite never truly fulfill that potential, and we just haven't seen FDev poor the passion and risk needed into Elite that would have made it the best that it truly could have been. There are pages and pages of 'what-ifs' and 'could have beens' and missed opportunities for Elite. CMDRs want to feel connected and part of the same galaxy as their fellow CMDRS. We don't want mind-numbing grind and rinse-and-repeat material gathering. We want to see the galaxy shape itself, not just spoonfed Galnet news and CGs. We want modularity, individualization, and customization with suits, ships, modules, upgrades, parts and pieces. We want to be able to really "have the items in our hands" and mix and match anything and everything like legos. We want balanced and challenging gunplay and a visceral feel of being on-foot and on a planet and moving around in the gameworld, not just 'reload simulator 3309'. We want server connection and multi-crew that is reliable so that CMDRs can actually be together and trust that they can stick together. We want to see the Elite galaxy be 'alive' - superpower specific soldiers in settlements, NPC SRVs moving to and fro, activity and life from NPCs at settlements. CMDRs want to really experience Elite but so much of that experience seems to be limited by what FDev is willing to bring to the table.

In Warframe you can random queue for an eidolon hunt or orb mother hunt and get matched with 3 random players looking to do the same thing. LOT of games have random public matchmaking. Why not add the option to random queue for a thargoid fight? Some way to queue players so that when everyone's ready they all drop into the same instance and there are thargoids waiting. Would be a nice way to take advantage of profit sharing without having to know people in advance. Or maybe this exists somehow and I'm not aware of it, I'm a new player, but I haven't seen any way to do this yet.

Elite is and always will be a totally soulless experience. I had some amazing moments, dropping onto a planet in my Diamondback and slowly flying over a Thargoid base, with the eerie effects and amazing music...but nothing happened. Come on let's face it, the actual 'game' is so bare bones it's just not worth angsting over it any more. The ships are amazing and the flying is fantastic, and the galaxy engine is phenomenal. Pretty much all of that was there right from the start. Then... Elite is probably the biggest wasted opportunity/potential in gaming. I'm pretty sure most Elite players have _wished_ there was way more in the game and have simply spent most of their time fighting with the game and Frontier. Plus hoping the carrot constantly being dangled (well, it used to..now Frontier have learned the lesson about hype I think) was going to be worth waiting for. None of it was ever worth waiting for in IMHO. Its all way too half baked. Hopefully Starfield will be more substantial. Will be very interesting to see what the ships are like.

The consistency of engineering and then acquiring the item is just haphazard. Between ground game, space game, guardian vs traders vs rescue (supplier?) ships. Unlock vs pay per single. @alvatoredimarco Жыл бұрын
The original intent long long ago was for *all* the ships to have that kind of treatment. They did it for the Anaconda, realized how taxing it would be on machines and how much work it would be for the devs, and abandoned it.
@hj-redravenheng3822 Жыл бұрын
Agree, this just smacks of laziness. Even really basic damage models. As @Alvatore DiMarco said below (above?) its a lot of work, but who doesn't want to see their ship all banged up and limping back into station losing metal, shooting sparks etc? The deteriorating paint shader is kinda cool, but doesn't respond to daamage, only distance travelled in FSD. Yet another missed opportunity.

There is too much reliance on third party info. Simple example, would anyone ever know about Davs Hope simply by playing the game. There should be a mission given at to a new player to go to Davs and an explanation of what all this stuff you are picking up is good for.

The absolute bullshit that is manufactured or for that matter ALL material grinds. Also, why cant we have a single "you want to purchase this engineering for this module/gun/etc?" "1 Click here, done, 1st level done, you want 2nd level? 1 click done, etc..." None of that rolling RNG shit. Edit: Yes, so fuel scoop engineering (and i mean useful one, not like shielded or low mass, i mean like faster scooping), or guardian weapons engineering, or anything like that.

The GRIND for materials! If anything this is the one thing that puts me off… used to play for hours but lost the interest… there’s simply not enough variety in the game mechanics. New ships will add very little to the game. A new hull is just a new hull. After a few hours it will be an old hull. I have a list of fundamental things that need to be addressed, but it doesn't matter. FDev lacks the will and vision to address the important things. That is why I stopped playing after 2500 hours of game time. I have given up on Elite, like so many of the old timers.

I've only played a little bit of ED, compared to maybe the 100 or so hours i put into SC, and maybe the 20 i've put in X4:Foundations, and i would pick the later two before ED any time. The combat feels clunky and fat, and all the ships i tried in ED feel like bricks with thrusters, aiming with locked weapons feels like a chore not a trade like in SC where yes, you get extra firepower but you gotta trade it for extra effort when fighting, in ED running locked to my experience has been horrible, feels like a punishment to not run your weapons with gimbals, the control or lack of it feels like an arcade space shooter game of the 90's that tried adding physics in the mix and that's it, feels like a end of year project and the devs where just checking boxmarks in the list. And it seems like all the ships must be able to do everything, maybe some will have more weapons, or more cargo, but to what i've seen, feels like there are no specializations or dedicated roles to any ship, i look at the stats and every ship i see, is basically the same. I could be wrong because i "haven't reached the endgame" but in SC if i wanna run cargo and do trading i can't do it with certain ships because they are not made to do that, like the Arrow, or the Talon, fight dedicated ships, and even if both dedicated to the same overall objective have completely oposite ways of accomplishing it, even their movement and control is completely different, one is a dogfight center ship, the other is made to do fast precise strikes with missiles and it's size 4 guns. I could keep going for days, but i can only think that ED is NOT a space sim, it's a space ship sim, and if you played Freelancer, you won't see anything new. I feel like even Warframe has better space ship combat, including boarding, multicrew etc. I fear that if it keeps going like this, once other games get released (like Starfield, or SC as it becomes more complete) ED will fade into oblivion.

Some issues I have with the game: The fastest way to collect materials needed for engineering is to log out and then back into the game repeatedly and Fdev thinks that's totally fine. Fdev still has not done anything to even approach fixing the crime and punishment problem in the game. Fdev is vastly underutilizing the community. Why are their not in-game features that show me a vetted list of third party tools, or why haven't some of them been rolled into the game by now. Why isn't their a button to click from a pause menu or log in screen to get in touch with the fuel rats or the hull seals. Honestly the community does far more to keep the game playable than Fdev does.
@vcc_pdr Жыл бұрын
I would strongly disagree with grind part. Let's say FD strips it; what would players do if they suddenly get all the ships, fleet carrier and best modules? Get bored. Grind is a requirement for **any** sandbox game. No one complains about it in Minecraft which is pure grind-fest. But once you create farms and have all the resources, game quickly becomes boring. So it is not an issue in ED, people play with it for thousands of hours and expect always unique content, for mere $100 one-time payment. It is simply not real, unless FD starts charging monthly.

Hate? Nah, that's too strong of a statement for me. Disappointed? Oh yeah. I still use a screenshot from the first year I played it as my laptop lock screen. Regardless of the software, when the company behind it goes off the rails, I look for my gaming entertainment from other providers. I'm probably in the minority here, but ED isn't even on my 'maybe I'll play it in the next year' list. When Bethesda's new space game comes out, I feel confident in stating it will be the death knoll for ED.

It boggles my mind that they weren't able to get the ship transition correct. By contrast, X4 allows you to get in or out of your ship, walk up to the cockpit and take over, then, dock your ship in a bigger ship and walk up to the bridge and coordinate with that in a battle. Sure, you don't get the on ground shooting, or anything, but, there are other games which are older that were able to nail that stuff, Everspace 2 too, and, ofc, Spacebourne 2, but, also, Stellar Tactics too. Granted in the latter, it's not an fps view, however, part of the gameplay is getting out of your ship and exploring parts of the surface of the planets. Do I hate Elite Dangerous? No, not at all, I think that it fried my other laptop, but, I don't hate it, it's just, IDK, I have yet to buy the Frontiers DLC.

Hi, yesterday, PC Bang, one of the most popular spaniard youtubers specializated in Elite Dangerous tutorials and good stuff in general told to his community he just closed his channel, but not only youtube, he also stopped streaming in twitch. There are a lot of solid reasons for making this decision, but one of the most important reasons was the fact he requested Frontier to be part of the partner program (basically for getting free "items" aka skins and/or keys for his audience, making a relative good marketing campaing...i guess...), and after showing he accomplished all the requests, Frontier told him NO after months of waiting, adding some no-answers for other questions he made to them. The reason for this negative seems to be Frontiers are not interested in spanish-LATAM sector of his audience, making this a torn to discrimination... what do you think about it? thanks for all your effort, you are one of the biggest yt making stuff for this game, but Frontiers seems to hate their own game and community...

You are never going to have community as long as PvP is allowed in the main game. You can't have solo play, private play, and then open play except in open play anyone can shoot and kill you at anytime. There are no engineered mods that protect you if you are not a strong PvP. Elite needs to address this before people can find each other in game at random.

Lets run down the (an Incomplete) List: Fdev's neglect of the lore (from frivolous little things such as missing/incorrect details about a lore related system, to long forgotten major things. Such as The Club/Raxxla/Dark Wheel/etc). Nevermind the d=fact Fdev seems to have, erroneously moved away from player driven "events" (think the first ever contact between Thargoids and the player base), to "Handholding Story telling". Where nothing happens until Galnet says something. Fdev's Neglect of certain game mechanics; Such as PowerPlay, Engineering, Further engagement in the variety of ways to play (think Smuggling, Passenger, All of the onfoot stuff, Exploration, etc). Fleet Carriers. Still not much reason to own one, and no way (in game) to reduce or eliminate maintenance. Not to mention all of the useless "features" you can add to the ships (such as Pioneering Supplies). CONSOLE SUPPORT DED!!!! Should i mention all of the permit locked regions in the galaxy? I'm really not upset at all about the lack of new suits or weapons for Odyssey, given what an absolute nightmare it is to actually gather materials to engineer them. Maybe if there was a viable method of material-gathering that didn't require getting into firefights or amassing a bounty, and maybe if we had the ability to do nonlethal takedowns that didn't alert anyone or give you a fine/bounty instead of being forced into murder, murder, murder all the time. Maybe then, with those two things, upgrading and engineering suits and weapons would be better. Oh and of course, if we had the ability to remove engineering instead of being forced to start over with a fresh gun. Not being able to remove unwanted engineering is absolute bullshit.
@PocketDrummer Жыл бұрын
While entering/exiting ship without a full interior would be better than what we have now, I still think it was a massive missed opportunity. Contrary to what FDEV said, it would not "take too long and get old". Especially in a world where you can spend hours jumping to another location and waste several minutes to over an hour (hutton) to fly to a station. What I think they should have done is add a slower version of supercruise assist to all ships. Maybe have it travel at 50% speed instead of 70% or whatever it is now. That would allow people in all ships to get out of their chair and do something in the ship without having to completely stop or wander off or run into something. They should allow players to customize their quarters similar to how they customize the cockpit, which would be a huge revenue stream for FDEV. And to sell it, when someone else is in your ship, they should also be able to walk around your ship and see how you've customized it. That would give people more incentive to spend money to make their ships more personalized. Outside of that, I think it would have been nice to have an EV suit so that we could collect materials from wreckage in space, and it would be nice to perform some small repairs to our ship from the outside. Perhaps we could go out and patch up the hull to some degree (though not as well as a limpet) if we found materials to do so. There's so much they could do.

Totally agree on all the points. Haven’t played since Odyssey started, but dearly miss what it could be, but just can’t play it after having seen that everything is just grind. I think Frontier could salvage things by doing 2 things. Firstly develop a base building mechanic similar to subnautica. Let me build a base for myself, where all my stuff goes. Where people can come and visit me. If it needs to be underground to avoid having performance issues, so be it. Similarly, let me build a store, where I can buy and sell resources. I want to see the human presence in the galaxy expand and new communities develop. Secondly, I would like us to be able to use the base building mechanism to build challenges for other people to play against, like a cross between Mario Maker, Clash of Clans and HellDivers. A small squadron of people can fly to my challenge base’s location and if they can penetrate it and achieve some sort of objective, they can gain a trinket or trophy as pride for their accomplishment. Obviously, I would have placed various defenses in my own unique way that would make it hard to achieve, and perhaps you would need specific strategies to crack each base. I think if you can start to encourage squadron based combat, community will start to build. It would stop Frontier from having to create all the challenges from scratch and instead focus just on the components and letting the community develop multitudes of content.
@iamthebombler Жыл бұрын
Uh, for the base part we have fleet carriers. Yes they're a bit of a hassle to get but they're well worth the grind for the most part and you can sell/buy stuff. As for the challenge thing, that just seems a bit childish. Comparing COC or Mario maker to elite dangerous is kind of unfair. Elite is far more complex and has a lot more depth than those two games combined. It's extremely immature of you to think about adding silly stupid little challenges for rewards thinking it would make the game better.

No quest lines to help you get more immersed or explore certain parts of the Bubble or galaxy. Grindy...wow! Unbelievable grinds! In fact, that's what ED will reduce you to doing. There's just no reason or satisfaction in doing any of the Starport missions at all, they are SO under-developed! I've been ranting on the forums for years, since I backed the beta. The game was on a great track through update 1.2 "Wings" during it's first year, and then began introducing disconnected and unfinished features year after year starting with powerplay. Basic systems were moved to what feel like beta-stage (in SC terms, Tier 0) and left there. A few core gameplay loops that are common to the genre were bland, and only mining was truly fleshed out... Bounty Hunters sit in a static location (a RES site) and play whack-a-mole, conflict zones are the same, pirates' tools don't work (no way to disable ships, hatch breakers don't scale). Smuggling... exists? There's never any penalty beyond fines which mean nothing, no risk. Powerplay could've tied into the MMO aspect by being centered around minor factions, which could then be supported by Squadrons later down the line, eventually meshing together to create a pseudo-EvE without the most hard-core aspects of that game. CQC Needed to be expanded. The core gameplay was good (although I wasn't a big fan of powerups), and I the concept of losing your lock when a ship moved beyond a physical barrier was great, and should've gone into the open world. However, they could've added a free-flight mode, private lobbies, a mode to test ships you don't have... etc. A counterpart to the open-world. Maybe even add larger-ship arena combat, and then a gamemode that just lets you import your open-world ship. Engineering screwed up any chance of multiplayer balance. It had a lot of potential to add interesting gameplay via the experimental effects, but a system with outright upgrades with very little downside across the board did not and does not belong in any game with even a semblance of PvP even possible. Prior to engineering, you could learn what each type of ship could do, and plan accordingly. During my nooby pirate days in 1.1/1.2, I flew a Cobra Mk III because it was the fastest thing around. Only clippers and other cobras stood a chance of catching me. Now, anyone (but especially newer players) have to be infinitely cautious around anything, because they never know what ships can do what jobs, given the very high degree of ship modularity combined with the vast amount of possible outfitting permutations allowed through engineering. The last thing I'll rant about here are the Thargoids. Introduced in late 2017 to the game, they were (and are) an incredible feat of game design. However, as soon as they're introduced, they're barely followed up on as apparently (per Drew Wagar) there was a behind-the-scenes lore meltdown in the office and FDev scrapped their plans... meaning nothing serious happened with them until... NOW. Five years later! This game could've gone to the moon...

They really need to do something about the grind. That's my biggest gripe about it. They laser mining is boring. You just click and hold your mouse until it's depleted, and then move on. Why not have certain areas on the asteroid that give more or less materials? Then we'd have to maneuver around the asteroid to get the best results. We'd have to pick and choose which asteroid is worth it based on how fast it's spinning, etc. All we have to worry about right now is that the limpets don't suicide (which they need to just fix). Exobiology is the same. Find the plant, scan the plant, rinse and repeat until you get tired of it. There's nothing fun about the scanning process. It's basically just a scavenger hunt. Also, having to pass up other plants because you need three in a row is kind of a dumb restriction. Let us swap out canisters at the very least.

Yes, the Thargoids have invaded and I think the events surrounding are great, but it could have been implemented better. There's so much content in Elite, but most of it feels isolated and disconnected, like seperate pieces of puzzle that have been jury rigged to fit with one another.

I don't think adding a cockpit and ladder fixes the problems with elite's two spheres of combat. The reason FPS gameplay works on games like SC, where is totally seamless is because it was an FPS game first with vehicles. You can get on any vehicle, yours, somebody else, and so can anybody. Even group together and nest vehicles in vehicles if they fit. This makes for organic open seamless gameplay of infinite scenarios. Elite is a ship game with an FPS mode. Your ship is your ship and nobody else can get in. Nobody else can fly it. Nobody can drive their ship into your ship's hangars ad-hoc or board you. The game engine that allows CIG to do this has taken a very long time to build, but there is literally nothing Fdev has that can possibly support something similar. yet it is thte type of engine CIG created that is needed to eliminate the two spheres problem.

QOL improvements, increase material payouts to 5 or more..New ANYTHING!!! How about something between a "Conda and FC that flys/docks & carries a select few ships? EDHM_UI is awesome & still works in Ody BTW for those that hate orange!! Just beating Yamiks' horse I guess...

The black transition must absolutely go, and also the exploration inside the ship, that is definitely needed, come on. In detail on how to do the transition without black screen is the sitting moment should be fading (in full colors dynamic scene) no black screen so it will give a sort of "star wars" feeling, it would not be disconnected anymore even in terms of taste, it would be ok. Absolutely about grind, I wanna play this game but I am a bit scared. I never picked it up but I have everything for it... I am scared that it is like EFT, fortunately it doesn't reset your progress as Escape from tarkov does... and it's not bullet spongy but .. I fear it's a bit too grindy.. I am looking forward to see how it will play for me. Absolutely another thing is: way too much stuff is outside external third party stuff.. It would be cool if some stuff was brought in the game. Not a couple of things but at least major services...

I quit playing ED long time ago because all those things. Actually I bought Odyssey, play few hours and I leave game for good. Now I just checking videos about ED to see what's going on there. I was playing since 2015.

"it's only four years" I've been hoping they'll bring in the Wolf as an alien hybrid ship, but that's probably OP. What happened to the Moray Starboat? That's supposed to be a spaceship and submarine. How cool would that look? The Constrictor!! The OG Elite experimental military ship. So many options. I agree with your points in general. I also wish Odyssey had shown Elite's universe as less StarCitizeny. Elite always felt like an 80s style ageing capitalist dystopia, so I always imagined more british cyberpunk aesthetics and sensibilities in a way. At least more industrial and grimy for the most part.

Morning commander from Australia. I've been following your videos for over a year now and I thankyou for the content that you share, you're honest and you don't muck around. I will put up some points myself that you had brought up, when you said about adding new content to the game myself and some friends in Australia have been discussing this for a while and would like to see these contents added to the game for excitement and adds more danger to the game. Only in open world this can be done but knowing our luck people in open world will Not like this idea and go back to private or solo matches. In odyssey where we have different types of items we would like to see an item where you can hack computer consoles like a usb put it into the side of the system and download all the schematics to that station and linked stations within that solar system but it only gives you the name it's linked to that way it's up to you as a pilot to search other stations within that system then you can sell the info on the black market and only the black market. Number two when you mentioned about fleet carriers I have discussed with a lot of players around the world where squadrons what's killing this off is the owner or commander to that fleet carrier or what we call a squadron leader they become very rude and arrogant, dictatorship, obnoxious, self centered, verbally hostile with foul language, under the dictatorship rule my ship my rules, they control us as commanders and especially new players who are fresh to the game like they are running a military camp and yet when they advertise their squadron through inara, Xbox or pc in nice writing they put willing to teach anyone who is new to the game they only teach the new player the things that they only need to know at the time but when the new player would like to learn a different spectrum of the game say combat versus mining they persuade you to stay where you are and keep learning what you're learning from that commander. Enough about this you can look at it for yourself. Number three would like to see all in fun but putting yourself in danger at the same time as a one man crew or some friends as well up to three players one ship or individual ships fly out to a station or to a planet and you have like some Thing out of star trek hard to picture, but like a little phone and you can walk up if you're in open play and you know there's other commanders at the station where you can stand at the front of their ship scan the ship and it'll come up with a manifest scanner and tell you what cargo they are carrying, what modification have been done to the ship in engineering and if you wish to you can go grand theft auto aka hijack or steal their ship. But as we know no matter where you land they can always recall their ship but this is where the fun begins you take it back to black market only now each ship should have an id number like a number plate to a car. If you wish to keep the ship for yourself under the black market rule you have to pay out a lot of money just to have the id number changed to you as in you get to keep it as a stolen vehicle but it must be modified as in colour and it's Id number or if you wish to.make extra money you can sell it as in through parts by dismembering the ship or you can sell it as a whole. Number four new missions call this one the hijack as you know in combat it asks you to take out high risk targets, but would be nice if as we can do interdicting instead of eliminating your target you interdict it then use a transporter machine out of star trek and hijack the vip and then you check your mission log and you find out who has the highest bid as in information or resources, if you take to the person back to your home station you can hand them over to your authorities but you don't earn any credits respect points or influence but you do get and this is going to sound corny, you get gold stars but when you accumulate say a number of 10 those gold stars could be used to upgrade your suits only or anything to do with weapons for your suits, navigation range, capacity range like med kits hand grenades power cells. Number five in purchasing like you mentioned in a way of cosmetics here in Australia our Australian dollar compared to USD as you know is not that good but then again this is a UK based game and server. When you finish the game just as you go to turn it off it tells you how many points you earned that day it only has a max top level of 400 credits, I would like to see the benchmark lifted to 1000-1500 credits. Just like yourself commander and myself have pushed out those credits in two days then you have to wait a whole week for it to reset. I would like to see on store apx points to be lowered in real time money I think the uk does not understand our economy or do not understand what's happening here in terms of costs of living, if they want us to purchase more items in game, drop these prices down or what they can do every six months for one week only have a mega sale up to 75% off and only do it twice a year. Remember commanders especially you commander from down to earth astronomy, I would like to see you make a KZbin video on these topics because players around the world will listen to you more than me. Even ask them to make a voting poll when they comment 1 for yes and 0 for no if they want to see these things in game. I'm hoping to see you out there myself would love to catch up on chat commander name jedininja72. Take care God Bless 07

I agree. I use to love elite but it almost seems in maintenance mode besides the war. I'll admit I have been playing more do to the war. I don't really like the fighting the flowers but transportation is fun. Edit: I really think they should add squadron missions that effect the game space in some way.
@craigcas117 Жыл бұрын
Bottom line is they should have added ship internals. meaning walking around your ship.

returned to the game recently, but it almost gives me physical pain to play, yet i want to play it. I dont have engineers(just the fsd so far),and its a joke that i have to watch tons of guides since i dont have materials, plus the game aint telling you exactly where to "farm" them so to say. This grind for materials is a hassle really,since its not implemented in an enjoyable way.Going to an emission, then quitting to main menu or to desktop,then relaunching it to fly to the same space, to gather the same material gain and again, WOW SO MUCH FUN.Or finding the raw materials i need with its 2% drop rate,which most of the time feels more like 0,05% after you finally find a god damn spot where they exist.Could list more problems as well, but as someone who doesnt have them, i can easily see my shortcomings in everything pretty much. Like for example a single ship can kill me with 1 engineered weapon in a resource site,and i cant even go to hazardous ones as most have more engineered modules there,thargoid is a no go as well as its a different grind and so on. I kinda want to like the game, but i will probably drop it after i grind the empire/fed rep till the last ship.

I'm newly back to the game after playing it in the beginning and it really does feel like playing a single player game. If I want to play with my brother it doesn't feel like we really can go do things together. You go to a zone and maybe fight some pirates or something. But, no wave missions where you fend off waves of attackers or defending a station from pirates or anything where he and I could battle against the NPCs for a time. Beyond that it also seems like FDev hasn't been developing for Elite in a very long time. Like you said, where are new ships? There are two ground vehicles and all you do is just use your scan tool on plants or collect materials on the ground? It's also possibly I'm not utilizing what the game has very well but I'm not sure.

I have a lot of gripes with Frontier's choices at times. Oddysey launched with a lot of problems on top of being during the Covid explosion. They spent a very long time not developing new content while they fixed those numerous problems. I'm grateful they did that. So I won't hold not having new ships against them because of those decisions. But my hopes would be improvements to the game in the future. I strongly agree the Joystick issues would be fabulous being fixed. It really feels awful to need to dumb down the joystick. Not to mention the interface in elite will call different buttons from the software side the same button name.
