5 Reasons Not To Carry A Gun In A Purse

Every woman I've dated who carried a gun carried it in their purse. Women are not going to stop carrying guns in their purses, and I don't blame them.
Because of the way they dress, it's hard for women to carry a gun on their body, and if she has any sense of fashion, it's ten times harder, so 90% of the time, she's going to carry her gun in a purse.
I'm about to Mansplain 5 reasons why carrying a gun in a purse is a bad idea.
Not so that women stop doing it, but so they at least know the limitations and try to mitigate them.

Biggest issue I see with carrying in a purse is when a bad guy attacks you, hes likely coming for and grabbing your purse......soooo, now your in the fight for your life and your gun is in the thing the bad guy is fighting you over......

A friend of mine nearly lost his life for exactly that reason, except his gun was in a fanny pack. (We made him turn in his man card, anyway!) The assailant is doing life (three strikes) because my friend had a backup gun. (Almost enough to get the man card back, but not quite.)

@@20alphabet Not true, they can talk, they can have input, the issue is them being in leadership and making decisions about society and Government. My wife, sister and mother hates working with women in management and constantly explains the drama with it. When my wife and mother became management in their company they still had to deal with drama from the women under them. That case study of the feminist who made a all female movie studio is just one example of chaos and immaturity women bring. I said it before and I'll say it again, there are awesome women around, my mother, wife and aunt who is a retired cop are examples of that, but it's not worth the risk and issues looking for the 2 or 3 great standout women out of 10. Nobody even talks about the fact that female officers can't even force a perp into submission without backup if the perp don't want to be hand cuffed and is male, or how most female cops can't chase down male perps at all even if they are in shape or how they have to reach for the deadly option more often than males because they can't go toe to toe with male criminals which leads to more danger for themselves, the public and the perp. We're all just suppose to pretend none of this is a problem because it's "sexist" to say. Get the F outta here.

I bought my first handgun about a week and a half ago.🥳 The salesman asked if I planned to carry in my purse. I looked at him, shook my head and said "No...I want to be able to GET to it!" I'm not a fancy girl and I don't wear dresses. Jeans and a tshirt mostly. I haven't decided how I'll carry. Waistband seems uncomfortable. Shoulder holster maybe? But not in the summer here in AZ. Ankle sounds like a possibility. I need more experience with the gun in general before I decide how I'll carry. For now it's in my closet. 2nd shooting lesson in a few days.👍🏻

I tried several different holsters, and for now I’ve settled on a Dene Adams corset holster. I live in Houston, and it gets very hot and humid here. Not sure how tolerable it will be wearing this while walking the dogs in the middle of summer, but it breathes well enough so far.

Get yourself a Ruger LCP MAX and you can easily fit it in your pocket. It's a bit snappy, but after practice you'll get used to it!!! It's only a .380, but it packs a punch.

I live in an area where it's up to 110° many days in the summer so I wear A lot of dresses and skirts. Yeah, it might be a little bit of a pain to have to have multiple holster options, but it's absolutely worth it. And I have found ways to carry on body with absolutely everything I wear even when it's a 100 plus degrees outside.

@mesp3786 I have tried SO many belly bands out there and my We The people is my far my personal favorite, It's customizable and the best belly band I've used. It's great If i'm wearing something that doesn't accommodate my tac belt and holster. Once it starts to really get hot as it already is here in California, most days of the week I end up going with the sticky holster leg strap with my gun in a sticky holster (WTP makes a more affordable version of a sticky holster that works with the thigh strap to secure it) it even has spaces for extra mags and or a knife so I pretty much utilize that any time I am wearing a dress or a skirt where my top will print and the belly band isn't practical. It just takes a little practicing and finessing around with your outfit to determine what part of the leg to position your thigh band and the grip of your gun. Also I do a cross draw when carrying with a thigh holster as that's the only time it's more practical and less time consuming for me to defeat garment and draw quickly and smoothly.

I make sure my crossbody strap is under a sweater or coat. If I get funny vibes, I make sure the pouch is unzipped and hand on my cc. I've never had to fire, but if I have to, I'll have zero qualms about firing through my purse vs. pulling it out to aim. Thanks for the video ...

He has a really good point. This is why I have a conceal carry purse with a side zip gun compartment and holster. It is worn cross body, not over the shoulder. The thick leather strap wound have to be broken or it would have to be lifted over my head and shoulder. I never set it down when I have it. It’s stays on me. If I’m eating at dinner it is placed between my feet under the table with the strap around my leg. If it’s in my car I place it on the seat, shine facing me for easy access. I do keep a round chambered because if I’m in eminent danger I can shoot through my purse. All that being said the one time I probably needed it, I had locked it and my purse in my trunk because I was helping someone move. Sure enough we were accosted by a crazy drug addict. What I would have given for a belt holster or something in that moment…

When my Wife 1st got her CHL here in Texas, there were very few Purses designed for Concealed Carry and none that she liked, so she would carry inside her regular purse (she carried a S&W LadySmith 3913LS with no holster). She eventually stopped carrying anything at all because she said that it made her purse too heavy, even though the "Purse" she carries is more like a Grocery Store Tote Bag. Her reasoning is that she doesn't need to carry "Because I'm ALWAYS with her and I ALWAYS carry". It's kinda like the arguement that "I don't need to carry because ther will ALWAYS be an LEO right there if I need him". I can't get her to understand that the "Bad Guy" might get me 1st and then I'll need HER to Protect me.

Is there something I can learn to make me better in case we one day need to use these things. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe not wrong, but not efficient? Do what you think is best for you. Just know the limits of what you choose to do. And every choice has limits.

I appreciate this video. I have a small build. Got a Flash Bang holster as they are designed for women. Even with the concealment wing, I find it difficult to avoid printing… even in a very loose T-shirt! I also have a conceal carry purse that’s quickly gets extremely uncomfortable. The belly band holsters are probably the best option for smaller built women. Bottom line anything, on your person or even carry in a purse, will be physically uncomfortable for most. That’s important for women to understand. Purses are fine if they are safely and effectively utilized for carry.

I carry a cross body that’s more like a chest pack (I’m small chested) and so far it’s the best option I’ve found. My gun is holstered, in a dedicated pocket and I practice almost daily drawing from that pocket. My jeans are just too tight for a comfortable appendix carry.

If you have a gun in a bag/purse, and the purse is set down somewhere then you are unarmed and there is an unsecured weapon.laying around....not good. Gun should be ON you or at a secure location.

Thank you for this informative video. I started with a dedicated conceal carry purse, with holster. I wear it a very specific way, cross body, and train my draw from it. I still have this, but now it's my backup. I highly, highly recommend considering the PHLster Enigma setup. With a custom holster attached, I can conceal carry my Canik TP9SFX under most of my regular dresses. Find what works for you, what is safe, and train train train.

Here's another reason I am not a fan of off-body carry of a firearm. If a lady wants to carry a firearm in her purse you give excellent reasons why this might not be the best option. If the lady has a child or children, we all know how little Johnny/Joannie might put their little hands in "mommies" purse looking for some candy, gum, money, etc. and accidentally find "mommies" gun. As you mention, a lady should keep a VERY close eye on her purse. Children might find more than candy or money in "mommies" purse. This probably is the best reason not to carry a handgun, holstered or not, in your purse. JMHO

I am a "full bodied" woman, and I either carry with a belly band or inside the dedicated pocket of my sling pack. When it's in my sling pack, it's in a full coverage holster! Since I'm in a power wheelchair for my mobility, that sling pack is always across my chest, unless I'm driving my truck, and then is always secured in the passenger seat, in a position that I can have easy access should I need it.

I carry a Sig P365-380 with the Phlster Enigma beltless holster. Price point and the leg leash can be an issue but if we women can wear heals and thongs we can wear the leg leash. I think its better than a fanny pack to the gym and concealment is amazing. You can jog and run in it. No need for belts which make going to the restroom a particularly lengthy and cumbersome experience. I swear by it. Way better as an EDC solution than a purse, belt or bag system for ladies.

Try the JM4 Tactical Magento retention holster. I have a left & and right-hand holster for every gun I own. Never need to wear a belt. They work with yoga pants and athletic wear. Plus with that magnet, it's not going anywhere.

Great video! My husband and I have had this conversation for years. Women's fashion doesn't support body carry!!! I only have purses that are specifically made for CC, with a cross body/slash proof strap. It's a part of carrying responsibly. However, I still understand the importance of body carry above all other types of CC. I had 6 kids in 9 years. That is why I went to purse carry. No maternity clothing is CC compatible! 😂 I am a daily distance runner and use my belly band for that. I just can't find the right form of body carry that meshes well with my type of fashion and comfort.

Actually if you check out the USCCA site, they basically retracted the idea of using an off body(purse/fannypack) carry as it is very difficult, like a purse, so the answer should be, find a suitable on-body carry option.

There are no perfect solutions. There are only options and trade offs. I can easily appreciate the importance of making the trade offs that come with “purse-carry” clear and understandable. At the same time I can easily understand that, and I’m not being sexist here just objective, many women for many reasons would find it much more convenient to carry a pistol in their purse rather than on their person. Being aware of the inherent limitations and dare I say dangers of any particular type of carry is absolutely essential…and that goes for Anyone! As such, all I can say is thank you for presenting this information in an easy to understand manner😺

I agree with you. I am a 69 year old Granny. My Dad taught me gun safety from the time I was aware of life. I have concealed carried since I was about 16. Dad open carried a .38 Special his entire life,never questioned by law enforcement. I hate “purse carry” for the exact reasons you mentioned. I am still “sort of” fashion conscious,so it is nearly impossible to carry concealed. Skinny jeans have zero places. I have not gone back to the wide leg Jean yet. Probably never will. So unless I want to open carry,I’m stuck with having it in my purse, which makes me very uncomfortable. Takes a long time to get that pocket unzipped and get it out in your hand.

I used to carry in a concealed carry purse that had a separate compartment for the gun & triger guard. I will say it made me very nervous carrying in a purse because I was hyper aware of my purse & would NEVER leave it sit anywhere. I found it very stressful. However, through videos like this I realized this wasn't the best thing which I kinda already knew but didn't know how I would ever be able to carry on my body. That is until I found another channel "She Equips Herself" she has great videos of different holsters for different outfits & how to wear them! This was a game changer for me. I am still trying to perfect this type of carry but 99.9% of the time I do not purse carry anymore. I really appreciate videos like this bringing light to an issue & videos highlighting possible solutions to make change happen. If it's loose in the purse and it's moving around then you reach in, grabbing at likely a very unnatural grip/angle, you may accidently squeeze the trigger in a panic before actually properly aiming down the sights. Not to mention the gun is loose and moving around. Something can find its way into the trigger well. It's not rocket science, bud.

I list most of the reasons you've outlined. Granted, as a woman, I know there are instances where a purse may be the sole option at the time. In those instances, I just advise that they be prepared through practice & placement🤷🏾‍♀️ Like you, I also suggest bra holsters, belly bands, thigh holsters(or for my thick thighed azz, probably a small belly band lololol) etc. We can still be cute & ready, ladies😜

Thank you for doing this!! I don't carry a purse, tomboy in high school 😁 and now carry a backpack for the kids stuff; I carry on my hip. My mom carried in her purse with a holster in the gun pocket snapped in. My dad researched a ton of handguns for her, so all she would have to do was point and shoot. It's safety; it's only going to fire if you pull the trigger. Thank God too; she liked to throw her purse on the kitchen table when she came in, and the barrel would be pointed out someone, usually me, lol Once she was doing that constantly, Dad put the gun in with his collection! He was positive the handgun wouldn't go off. He didn't want her damaging the gun!

The only time I carry in my conceal-carry purse is if I’m wearing a dress, and that’s rare. Mine is always holstered on me. But I’m eventually going to invest in the Phlster Enigma, or something similar.

Santa Rosa County Florida, Sheriff's CCW training class, he DEMONSTRATES precisely how to solve the purse issue. Trained to carry "hot"... he approached the target, simulated an attack, stuck his hand in the purse, engaged the weapon, and SHOT THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE PURSE. The purse is inconsequential when facing an attacker. My lady carries a purse designed with a trigger guard HOLSTER built in. She could accomplish exactly what the sheriff did. And trains that scenario.

I can't believe no one has pointed out that Can Can Concealment's thigh holsters (ideally paired with a sturdy garter belt for stability) completely disappear under most skirts. Super tight body-con skirts, no, but anything that even slightly flares from the hips? That gun is GONE, especially if it's a compact or subcompact.

I have a conceal and carry purse, has a holster and is in a pocket of it's on on the outside of the purse. It also has a locking zipper. If you don't keep your purse on you then you carry your gun on your side in a holster.

Ma'am, it's still a bad idea. Think about that a moment. What does a thief go for, an armed thief? Always, ALWAYS keep your weapon on your person. Adjust your wardrobe for concealment. There are proper on person holsters for ladies, well made proper holsters. Bad idea keeping a weapon in a purse, I don't care if they have a holster.

Good points. A cross body purse will prevent a quick theft. Situational awareness will give you the time needed to access your firearm. That way you don't shoot yourself in the crotch while wearing your holster IWB appendix style. Way too many KZbin videos of men shooting themselves. And, the men commenting on your post. Seem to be hurt that they can't be your sole protector.

My purse has a place specifically for my firearm. I always wear my purse cross body with the pocket zipper on my right side so all I have to do is reach down, unzip the pocket and remove firearm. I did like some of the examples you showed of other holsters.

I like the idea of stitching in holsters. I've used 3M Velcro tape along with fabric glue for the inside of my backpacks holsters. I literally have been able to have a nice sanitized look from just a regular non-tactical Oakley or even Nike bag.

Easy buy a crossbreed purse defender, the holster and L shape plate that fits your purse size and of course your specific gun model. Fits perfect and due to plate does not move around and in your purse. And because it has a shooater, gun protected at all times and you leave one in the chamber. I have the back pack version and works awesome as well. Yes slower time to draw and be aware of your surroundings and where you have your purse at all time. Combine that with the correct way to carry in your purse, non issue to carry.

Talked to an instructor about purse carry, and he had two suggestions. One, have a dedicated pocket, and two, carry a revolver, so you don't have to remove it from the purse for repeating fire.

As a man with a work in process beer gut, I use to carry a man bag. As I have a few firearms that I carry, it took a lot of trial and error to find the holster / belt combo that worked for me. I see how creative some of these female content creators have become over the years with concealment. It just takes a few dollars and some practive and you'll hate carring any other way but against your skin. Good luck ladies and fellas who carry in some type of bag

I’ve been using either a belly band or thigh holster (depending on the outfit) for several years now. In addition to the points Colion shared, I’ve also found that a firearm can make my purse awkwardly heavy. Depending on body type and clothing, it’s sometimes easier for a woman to conceal a pistol than it is for a man.

I mostly use the PHLster Enigma Express, but I also like the Ukoala bag. I wear it crossbody or around my waist and it has a leg strap as well as an area just for the firearm. I have a thigh holster but I don’t have skinny thighs so I don’t love it and sometimes you can still tell I’m carrying.

I used to work in a gun store and the number one thing I used to tell girls who wanted to keep a gun in their purse was ........ I would ask them how long it took them to find the last thing they were looking for in their purse. The answer was never instantly. I then said well would you really want to be dinging around in your purse if you had someone coming at you with a lethal threat or would you want to know exactly where your firearm was so that you could grab it and draw it when the threat came near? That was usually enough to dissuade them from wanting to carry in their purse anymore. For those who were super stubborn I would tell them if you absolutely have to do it then just make sure in any situation where you feel the slightest amount of danger you put your hand in your purse and grab your gun and just hold it inside the purse so that if it needs to come out it's already in your hand.

On body carry for 99% of situations. In the rare situation where on body isn’t possible, purse carry is better than leaving at home as long as you can still stay in full control of the location and who has access.

My wife swapped the purse for a sling bag that fits snugly to her body so she could use it for concealed carry. Her firearm has its own designated pocket, with a holster tethered to the inside so it comes off when she draws. The sling bag NEVER leaves her body unless she's at home. She actually wants to upgrade to a bag from 5.11 Tactical which I believe was called the 2-banger, if memory serves. It would be even more secured to her body as it adds a second strap that tees off the main strap to keep it firmly in position. The sling bag is already far more secure than a purse, as it goes cross-body and is cinched tight to her chest/abdomen. It's been working well for her, so maybe this is a good option for the ladies?

My coworker at the gun store I work at is a woman, and she used to carry a purse with a dedicated gun pocket. After a few years, though, there was a very obvious imprint of a Glock 19 on the outside of the purse

That’s why you only carry a gun in your purse that’s made to carry a gun. Some of us never take our purses off, especially when we carry. You do not always have to draw, you can shoot through your purse. Also…one thing you said is absolutely right, practice drawing out your purse or practice grabbing and pointing it in general directions. It’s all about situational awareness.

When I was a Baltimore City cop (where each of us responding to shootings every couple days was a regular occurrence) I found it interesting that my first shooting call in field training was a retired officer working as a sheriff for court room security (so 30years experience in law enforcement) accidentally slipped his finger into his trigger while switching to his off duty holster and shot himself in the leg. It drove the message hime to me early in my gun experience that you can not get comfortable/ casual with guns. Casually throwing it in your purse unholstered is a ticking time bomb
