@@rodrigopinho34rally71 Even now, the driver matters most in rally. It is the complete opposite of F1. Ogier jumped from car to car and won championships, even with M-Sport who gets the bare minimum from Ford. Kalle has the potential to do the same.
@potatogirlcultist19 Жыл бұрын
@@BlueSkyCrystals I'm not so sure. There has been times in WRC history when a prolific driver made a move and it went pear shaped, like when McRae moved to Citroen. Ogier before the Volkswagen era had driven for Citroen before, so he had experience of working in a different environment, meaning he could switch to M-Sport easier. I don't think M-Sport are that bad, they just don't have the money to get a good driver at the minute (when Tanak leaves they will become the Williams of WRC). Rovanpera has been with Toyota for his entire career, and they do have the best car. Yeah it's possible for other teams to win unlike in F1, but Toyota have the overall best package.
@BlueSkyCrystals Жыл бұрын
@@potatogirlcultist19 I agree a little, but the driving skill is the main reason Ogier could win titles in any car, the exception being Citroen who wasted his return after barely developing the car at all for years (Meeke had complained about the rear stability and constant bottoming out for years. When Loeb returned, he had the same complaints. When Ogier returned, he also had the same complaints and finally called Citroen out publicly for not responding to these issues before deciding to leave). Also I did not mean to sound like I think lowly of M-Sport. I love the team and I was so happy for Malcolm Wilson when Ogier and Ingrassia delivered two drivers’ titles, but they do not have the resources the other teams do because Ford gives them the bare minimum. They still deliver very good cars regardless, which speaks to how good the team itself is. Back on topic, I think Kalle has the potential to be great enough to jump from team to team and win. He may not be there yet but he can definitely get there. Time is on his side.

I'm not so sure. To achieve Loeb's dominance your domination level has to be unparalleled. In his first full season he came within 1 point of a world title, beating legendary teammates Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz. Yeah, it could be argued that he had an advantage since he had more experience with the Xsara WRC, but McRae and Sainz were notorious for adapting quickly to new cars. Kalle's first season wasn't trash, but he was no where near Evans and Ogier in the first season. Loeb then went on to win three titles back to back, the first one with 2 rounds to spare, the second one with a margin of *56* points (back when it was the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system), the third one where he missed the final four rounds due to a mountain biking accident. Kalle has done pretty well, but this season wasn't as good as his last one. He only won three rallies, which isn't exactly total domination like Loeb did. The next test Loeb had to pass was a tough title fight. After his debut season (which he can be forgiven for not winning. Lewis Hamilton didn't win his first season either but still came within a point), Loeb had three major title fights. 2007, 2009 and 2011. In these seasons it was clear Loeb was being pushed to his breaking point. He had accidents, but was clearly unrattled, and there eventually came a point where his rival had a bigger accident. Gronholm slipped in Ireland in 2007, Hirvonen had the bonnet come loose in Wales in 2009 and Ogier had the mechanical failure in Spain and Hirvonen crashed in Wales in 2011. People have said Evans is Kalle's title rival but there was no way without a massive stroke of luck Evans would have won the title this year. At the minute, if Tanak joined Toyota or if Ogier returned for another full time season, I think Kalle would be beaten. If Kalle want's to be considered the GOAT, he has to pass all of these challenges.

The funny thing is despite Kalle quite literally having been "cultivated" in a rally lab from childhood, Seb Ogier is still hands down the best rally driver in the world, and if he actually competed for the Championship this year, he would likely have won it handily. There's a difference between Kalle competing with the likes of Elfyn Evans and Thierry Neuville, who are still burdened by never having won a World Championship; and going up against the Champ, an eight times world champion who has arguably the best rally-craft of all time and who is even perhaps the most intelligent and resilient motorsport professional we've ever seen. That's pressure Kalle is not used to, and he would very likely have buckled - and who's to blame him; he's only 23. Experience is not something that can be simulated. Last year Kalle had an advantage in that he didn't have 5 years worth of habit to unlearn when adjusting to the new era Rally1 cars. He only competed with the WRC+ cars for 2 years, and was relatively underwhelming in them (only 2 victories in two years) as he was the one who had to adapt. With the Rally1 hard reset of 2022, Kalle could bring his Rally2 experience from only two years past and adapt to the Rally1 cars easier, because the Rally1 cars are effectively Rally2+ cars. (I know for instance that Elfyn Evans had a nightmare of a time adapting to the Rally1 cars in 2022, but this year he's been right back on the pace.) This year Kalle had less of an advantage with almost everyone having adapted fully to the more rudimentary Rally1 cars compared to the aero and ultra high tech monsters that were the previous era's WRC+ cars, and wouldn't you know, he won far less and dominated less than in 2022. I hope this bodes well for a competitive 2024 season that will feature multiple drivers competing for the title. Kalle is a phenomenon for sure, and with time he might even eclipse the likes of Loeb and Ogier, but the latter is still the best rally driver in the world, and the best we might ever see for focus, resilience, adaptability and all around driving ability. If Seb actually decided to compete in the Championship again, oh boy, what a fight that would be with Kalle. Then we'd see what he's actually made of.

Evans is a far as mid a driver can be, the best second option you can have, but not a driver to win a championship, Think of him like Sergio Perez, Neuville fought Ogier all his career on a Bad Hyundai for most of his career, and always came second, even though Ogier had an amazingly better car. I think Ogier is the greatest still, and Neuville even though he hasnt won a rally title, he just hasnt had that luck, that Kalle has had. Lots of Mechanical issues or Punctures, while kalle wins off of those unluckyness of Thierry and Ott Tanak. Put them on the same car, and we both know who will win. Ogier if he doesnt have bad luck, always destroys Kalle.
@petertromp8786 Жыл бұрын
@@rodrigopinho34rally71 Evans isn't mid; you don't win two Finnish rallies - beating two fast rally experts in Kalle and Ott flat out - by being mid. I think he has a mental block of some kind, otherwise on ability alone he's a potential world champion. He just has to put it all together. I feel he has too much self-doubt; he doesn't have the almost stupid self-belief that Kalle and Ott have. He's almost too sensible. Neuville unfortunately commits too many unforced errors when there's almost no pressure on him. In 2022 he threw away Rally Belgium when he was comfortably ahead, and this year the same thing happened in Croatia - 25+ points lost on the surface that's supposed to be his biggest strength. He's also unlucky, of course; but somehow misfortune that's rally-ending for him usually isn't rally-ending for someone like Ogier. The latter has consistently bounced back from what should have been rally-ending mishaps to score strong points. Thierry also has a mental block of sorts, in that he believes certain rallies don't suit him; but this year he scored back to back outstanding second places in Estonia and Finland, when those are supposed to be his least favourite events. The excuse of the Hyundai being a bad car doesn't hold water. They're a factory team with an immense budget that won the Constructor's Championship in 2019 in 2020, yet Ogier won the championships in 2017 and 18 in a second string M-Sport; and finished only 10 points behind Neuville in 2019 after he had been Ott Tanak's main rival for most of the season, all while he was in by far the worst car in the field, the Citroen C3. I truly, truly hope that Neuville puts all of his experience into winning the 2024 championship, because he's an electrifying driver when he's comfortable and in his element. Unfortunately it appears he has to be in his element more often than not to mount a sustained championship challenge, which is just not the way rally works. He also HAS TO eliminate his habit of throwing everything away when the win is there for the taking. Ogier and Kalle are absolutely ruthless when they know a win is in sight.
@potatogirlcultist19 Жыл бұрын
@@petertromp8786 Yeah I agree with the Evans statement. He is just as good as Ogier, Kalle etc., but whenever he has been in a position to win a World Championship he has crashed. I think Hyundai getting Tanak was a mistake, because it ruins the team dynamic. There is no #1 driver anymore, which is an avantage they had over Toyota. They will probably win manufacturers again next year, but just like in 2020 and 2022 they will lose dirvers title because neither Tanak or Neuville is going to yield.

When you win by sitting back and watch the opposition make mistakes ( all the while having the best team and car in your hands) it's understandable why he doesn't want number 1 on he's door and sticks to 69. Hardly a legend when all you do is drive cautiously and don't fight anybody to win 2 titles, just stay out of any trouble and that's it, you're champion! And then everybody wonders why WRC is going down.

And you stay high on your empty horse. If he is a legend what do you call the likes of Makinen, McRae, Loeb, Ogier, Sainz? Tanak did way more driving this season, Evans pushed his limits, Ogier leading the championship even though he didn't do the rallies.

If it's legal by the rules and you keep winning with minimal opposition, it's a superior strategy. It's smart. Only a thoughtless cowboy would change a winning strategy for a dramatic narrative.

Amazing talent, no doubt. Not a fan of his, I think he is a rather boring person, but no denial when it comes to talent.

You are so right, if you compere him for example with the exiting personalities like Elfyn Evans, Ott Tänak and Sebastien Ogier😂

The best personalities in the WRC right now are Esapekka Lappi, Gus Greensmith, Takamoto Katsuta and Oliver Solberg.

@@shaunsebata4798 Taka and Thierry for me are the most simpathetic, Lappi just has bad luck, with some bad driving, but is always funny in the stages ends
