PRO TIP: Don't forget about the firmware updates for your LENSES too! Once this body update is released, be on the lookout for the corresponding lens updates... They did this for my GH6 and the AF went from "just ok" to "almost PDAF level". I can't even imagine how good the AF will be once the body AND lens updates drop!

Sony should really take a good look at this, those features are really making me jealous. I think there might be some big updates in the new cameras soon. Like they did when the a7s2/3 came out it was always the new generation of video features which they than rolled out to all the others. Now every model has at least 4k/60 10bit etc. For the next big I hope we'll get open gate formats that's so useful. My dream would be a a7v with similar features to the s5ii. Put the 33mp sensor in there but make it stacked. Then opengate/30, uncropped 4k60 and s35 cropped 4k120 should be possible

rolling shutter is a fairly subjective experience - everyone says the 6K full frame is unusable but I shot a couple projects on it, fully handeld and had no issues. i also use the a7iv for commercial gigs and run and gun video, also handheld and thats like 26ms? i'd suggest testing one in your local camera store. see how it feels! otherwise i think overall the FX30 is the best video camera on the market right now.

My only major issue with the S5 II is the HDMI lag, even with sound turned off. I don't if it could be improved by firmware, but it really makes a fantastic camera unwieldy when trying to use manual focus

Have you tested the touch tracking? To me that is the biggest area that Lumix hasn't gotten the AF working quite right. For interviews the AF is dependable 95% of the time, but its inability to track an object and stay on it prevents me from trusting it for b-roll.

As the owner of two S5IIX I can say the only downside of this camera is crop in 4k50fps. But at the same time, this made me learn to shoot most of my footage in 25fps which I think made my videography even better as slowmo was always easy way to make my videos more cinematic which is bullshit :D Now I plan my shoots better. Those are great cameras!

my cheat code for that is shooting 30fps and slowing it down 20% just a bit extra smoothness for b-roll and no crop. i agree though,. no crop 4K 60 imo should be a basic feature on all models now. it bugs me on the a7iv too, and its why i mostly use an FX30. i swap so often that it's better for me to just be in S35 the whole time - and I don't love the S35 4K out of the S5ii I think its pixel binning.

What I can’t understand is why DPreview gave the S5II/X a 90 Silver rating and placed it below the Canon R6II with a 91 Gold score. I have mainly been a Canon shooter but I cannot see how the S5IIX’s superior video features cannot put it in top spot, at the very least based on value. The only big advantage the R6II has is 4k60 uncropped. Not enough to overcome the S5II/X strengths IMHO.
