My very first thought when I learned that Santa wasn't real (from the made in China sticker) was that my parents had lied to me. I still remember how mad I was. Not sad about Santa not being real, but that my parents had lied to me for so long.
@gabiafterhours7 жыл бұрын
Exactly!!!! Maybe not all children go through this, but no child should have to. I am obviously convinced that even the children who don't get bothered by their parents deceiving the for so long still have some subconscious change in the way they view the world. For me and my family Christ is enough for us. Thank you for commenting. I appreciate you watching. God bless you!

GabiAfterHours exactly! I am so furious that my husband, in laws and even my own mother wouldn't listen to me when I told them it's madness to lie to our children about where these gifts are coming from. They will not focus on WHAT CHRISTMAS REALLY IS ABOUT even though my mom and mother in law were raised Catholic. They and my husband wreck our religious observance of Christmas EVERY YEAR because we *have* to be home for them to be at our house Christmas morning for our child to open scads of gifts "from Santa," so the day is all about the kids getting STUFF, instead of going to a beautiful Mass full joy and praise for God's gift of His Son, and having a festive meal as a family. you are right Gaby, 40 years before I ever saw your video, my parents really damaged our relationship because they wouldn't tell me the truth even when I was TEN YEARS OLD, even when I asked them and my aunt point blank. Thanks to their dishonesty, everyone in my 5th or 6th grade class laughed at me for being an idiot, for insisting to the teacher that Santa is real, "he somehow gets in my grandparents house and leaves gifts even though we are all there and no one goes in the room with the tree (so I thought) where a 2nd story window is open after he comes." Thanks a lot for looking out for me, family! It was humiliating. School had been hard enough in the first place, because the kids all knew each other since before kindergarten and lived near each other in other parts of town; I was the only one from my neighborhood. And then that happened because they wouldn't level with me. It is not good to have a bad relationship with parents just before going into the turmoil of puberty, a Catholic in name only high school, and struggling to figure out colleges, career, dating....Kids need to know they can count on someone who will show them the ropes. they dont need parents who think so little of them they can't be bothered to give them vital knowledge they need to deal with this messed up world

I come from a Catholic Hispanic household. My parents raised my siblings and I by telling us that “El niñito Dios” (the child Jesus) is who brought us our gifts. I was very upset when I found out it wasn’t true. The fact that my parents had lied to me and the rest made me very mad. I don’t recall us learning about the true meaning about Christmas which is celebrating the Nativity of our Lord. However, as I grew older I realized that Jesus is real, unlike Santa Clause, and that the true gifts he grants us aren’t materialistic but spiritual ❤️. I’m still trying to learn about this beautiful celebration.

My mom always told my siblings and me that Santa wasn't real, no matter what our friends told us. During Christmas time, we still kept up the stockings, and there were Santa Claus, Father Christmas, and elf decorations, but those were just for fun. My mom also one year bought a Nativity set that she has been putting on the table every Christmas season since then. It's almost easy to forget about the Santa decorations when you enter the house and the first thing you see is the Holy Family. Now that I'm independent, I have an altar in my apartment, which, in a way, basically now serves the same purpose as my mom's Nativity set.

My friend... I know the struggle. I will tell you what I did. I told my son and my daughter both from the age they could grasp it... like your kids age... Santa is pretend. The teachers are lying to the students and the parents are lying to their children. They knew... I told them and they felt like they were privileged and they felt great pity about how the other kids parents lie to them. AND we do those things I mention... have birthday cake and sing etc. I hope that helps. I just tell the kids to ignore their teachers when it comes to Santa.

Great Video. You are 100 percent right. The main problem is that Santa eclipses the Nativity of Christ. It's all about materialism and temporal things. I loved the nativity figures of Christ in your video and the idea of a birthday cake for Him. These are the things which reinforce faith in children. Any gifts, which should not be too elaborate or excessive, can be given directly to children from parents and other relatives. No need to make up tales.

It is true as you said I have experienced in New Zealand that most educational institutions celebrate Christmas but not a word is seen about Jesus. It is just Xmas and not Christmas. Santa parade is a big event in Auckland.. You never get to see anything related to the birth of Christ in these parades because people don't believe it all.. Being a Catholic and an Indian who is convent educated these things really hurt me a lot and just don't know how to react... Most people here has Christian names like Ann.. John and Daniel Joseph and Mary but has no idea who is Jesus. I am an Early childhood Educator here and we are not allowed to talk any religion here in the centre. Any advise for me Gaby?

Please give some advice on books like Harry Potter which make children marvel at witchcraft and wizardry and dominate their topics for discussion. Besides what to do when children get amused by video games like Clash of Clans, which as the name suggests subtly make violence look acceptable. Peers are all into it and prohibiting my own children makes me appear like a mother who is being unnecessarily rigid when all other mothers are allowing. Please give sound Catholic advice.
@laurenw60886 жыл бұрын
I just came across your channel, and I have to say, I really like all of the arguments you include in your videos. As a child, I was told the Santa lie and when I eventually learned that Santa wasn't real, I felt crushed and lied to (just like you said in the video). I felt like the magic of Christmas in the following years was no longer there. Although my family is catholic, neither of my parents really practiced, so growing up, neither did I. We acknowledged that Christmas meant the birth of Jesus, but we didn't celebrate it that way. Instead, we praised a false idol who purportedly wore a red suit and had a white beard. I wish my parents would have guided me in my faith more by putting Jesus before all else in the holiday season. My parents used to write on our gifts that they were either from them, baby Jesus, or Santa Claus. When I learned there was no Santa, I also questioned my belief in Jesus, since, as you said, the two are placed so closely together. I think a great alternative to this would be to instead give three gifts, symbolic of the Three Wise Men, and read about the Nativity. St. Nicholas can also be celebrated and looked to as a role model for his generosity, but I feel this should be done in early December (around or on the 6th). This way, all glory can be given to the birth of Jesus on the actual Christmas holiday, instead of clouding it with 'Santa' talk.

Actually in some parts of Mexico (and maybe elsewhere, I don't know), children are given gifts on the Epiphany (feast of the 3 Kings) and not on Christmas. So that goes along more with the idea of the gifts that were given to the Baby Jesus. And children are told that the gifts are not from Santa Claus but from the "Niño Dios" (Baby Jesus).

My 13 year old neighbor who was a boy cried when he discovered that his parents lied to him about Santa. I was never taught that Santa Claus was real and Christmas was GREAT!!! . I am very thankful because as a child I was able to reason between the truths of the faith and fiction without too much trouble. It is important that kids understand what is of God, of the enemy, and what is fiction at an early age. St. Jacinta was only 7 when she saw Mary and 9 when she died. St. Anne died when she was 12 when she died and lived an ordinary holy life in her family. Lets make children love and understand the truth so they can be saints even as a young age. The Catechism says in 2111, “It can even affect the worship we offer the true God, when one attributes an importance in some way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary.” There is no reason to tell kids magical tales as real. All power comes from God! Let them know and trust in that. Thank you for the great videos! Sounds like you have more planned. If you get around to it, a video on Disney would be great! You and your ministry will be in my prayers! Mary Mother of the Eucharist, make us your perfect children, slaves and apostles!

You see there was city you probably never heard of in a country unseen you see their hopes were gone and promises were broken. Government control everything and the only closes to Jesus statue was a pretend Santa Claus and yet through that big guy even Santa as a plain believe in Jesus. Still the message was spread no matter how big the lie stands but remembering this "Jesus forgives and sets the path straight". over all your right.

So here is the problem that I am running into. Let me see first that I am 100% on board with this video. I have two young sons and we will not tell them that Santa Claus is real. The problem that we run into is that I have a brother who has young children and know other people that do the Santa Claus thing. If they find out that we are not doing the Santa Klos thing or my kids let slip that there is no Santa Claus to their kids, it may cause a great deal of resentment. It is an easy to defend not doing the Santa Claus thing because people will treat you as if you are holier than thou and tell you that you are taking things way too seriously. I don’t want to cause division in my family especially with my brother because I am very close to him. We haven’t had a problem yet, but we are getting close to Christmas and I am literally afraid to tell my brother that we don’t do Santa Claus. My brother has low income and a family has adopted his family every year and has given his girls gifts that he can’t afford, So he likes to say that there is a Santa Claus and that toys are being delivered to his daughters in the way that Santa Claus Deliver gifts. This will be his defense for Santa, because he thinks that technically there is a Santa due to this family adopting his fourth the Christmas season. Any suggestions on how to respond to this because it will indeed come up within the next year or two.

Well... that is going to be a conflict. The conflict isn't yours though. The conflict is the one who is doing the lying. You can tell your kids not to bring it up with them. If your brother has a problem... he can warn his kids not to talk to your kids about Santa because your kids are unbelievers. He will simply be perpetuating a lie that they will figure out. Our Lady will guide you through it. Entrust this situation to her. I have noticed that a growing number of people are beginning to reject Santa. We need to be rid of him as soon as possible. Once the Santa myth is destroyed the nonbelievers will know that there is only 1 reason for Christmas. Jesus Christ. Good luck!

I actually don’t know how to tell a child that Santa is real. I find it really stupid.

Gabi, I have enjoyed your videos but I have to say, respectfully, that I disagree with you on this. First, let me say that I would never judge any parent on how they chose to raise their children but for me, I do not see anything wrong with letting children believe in Santa. Now if you say U should pray about it, my answer is I have. I was very blessed some years ago to work with a wonderful group of people if various religious denominations and religions. We were all very respectful of each other, prayed together and discussed and debated in a very enlighting way. One of my co-workers told us she wouldn't lie about Santa which sparked much discussion and prayer and we all came to the same conclusion. We were all raised in religious homes so in addition to Santa, we all knew this was Jesus' birthday and are parents told us the Nativity story, hymns, Advent wreath, Mass. I, or no one I have ever known, considered ourselves lied to by our parents nor did it dramatically affect our lives. We all seem to find the truth about six or seven considered the beginning of the age of reason and by that time most all ready began to suspect there was no real Santa. It's storytelling and teaching children they are to be good to each other, hardly demonic. I remember being in first grade, my parents telling me about Santa but introducing and celebrating St Nicholas day and a wonderful introduction to the Communion of Saints. I do not know anyone who turned out badly because of Santa. I kind of think if my parents had told me the truth about Santa I would have felt cheated as I have fond memories of believing I heard Santa on the roof, listening to the radio to hear where Santa was in the world or did he eat the cookies we baked for him! Again, this is a personal decision parents have to make but in my opinion I am glad my parents let me believe and it never detracted my love for God! May God bless you!
