• Creatine is good. • Protein powder is just food. • Multivitamin probably isn't completely necessary if you're eating enough, but it also covers your bases just in case (b vitamins, vitamin d, and certain minerals). Most multivitamins have plenty of vitamin D, which is good if you don't get a lot of sun. If yours doesn't have vitamin d, it's a really cheap stand-alone. • Amino acid supplements and BCAAs are expensively pointless, just eat more. • Fish oil are a great idea if you aren't eating fish often. • Pre-workouts are caffeine with niacin, arginine, beta alanine, citrulline malate, and b vitamins. Don't rely on them for every workout, and even for heavy workouts I'd recommend avoiding them. • Joint supplements are just glucosamine and biotin. If you have joint problems or pain, just get those 2 things separately; they're cheap as hell. • Post-workouts are garbage, just eat something or make another protein shake. • Glutamine is pointless, unless you're vegetarian or don't consume dairy. • Lysine is good for cold sores, but that's about it. • Mass gainers are just maltodextrin and protein powder. If you absolutely don't want to eat your carbs, feel free to drink them with mass gainers. • Testosterone boosters are all, without exception, bullshit. • ZMA is zinc, magnesium, and B6. Generally you don't need to take a separate ZMA pill because you're getting these through a multivitamin, but if you're eating less to lose weight and don't have a vitamin with enough Z and A, a ZMA capsule could help with recovery and sleep. • Sleep aids are melatonin and valerian root, both of which are dirt cheap and can be purchased separately. • Weight-loss pills are usually caffeine, green tea (caffeine), green coffee bean (caffeine), and a fibre to suppress appetite. Any claims about metabolism boosting is bullshit. Just eat veggies and take a caffeine pill to replicate 99% of weight-loss pills.

When I first started working out last year, I was a 20yr old 5'7" that weighed 52kg. I was well below the average despite my heavy eating and I've been like that my whole life. I'm not lanky, or super skinny, just really lean. I've never really had much of a fat content despite lack of exercise and unhealthy eating so I could easily gauge my progress on the weighing scale as every increase would be muscle, never shedding fat. I bought 500g creatine and 2.5kg whey protein powder when I first started working out, along with tweaks in my diet which is also super important. Within the first two weeks I had packed on an extra 5kg, and a month later I was 61kg. After around 3-4 months of training I had gone from 52kg to 63kg, I was getting and feeling pretty ripped. Creatine and other supplementation may not work for everybody, but it can help to speed up the process, especially if you're like me and struggle with packing on the pounds, instead of shedding it. I still have a tiny 28" waist but I feel a huge sense of achievement every time I see my weight go up on the scales. Training does take time, it takes a lot of motivation because you won't always feel like working out, so it's really important to find a good reason for YOU to train. It can be gaining or losing weight, but nothing makes a target more achievable than specifics. It's easy to plan when you have a specific goal in mind, mine is to eventually reach 85kg on the scales. It'll take a lot of hard work, but I'm enjoying the journey in feeling and looking great, and that's all that matters in the end, right?

Raymundo Vega Well I was mainly talking about how they advice newbies not to take any supplements and in my preworkout there is also caffiene etc and it has given me the energy to want to workout and other newbies to lifting should just go against the advice to avoid supplements (or that it isn't needed which is true) if they have having problems getting the energy at the start :) but some people need the extra performance just to get going in the first place.

Well not that it;s necessarily unhealthy, but tends to be lighter and more for people recovering from illness, not on a heavy duty work out routine.
@Lars168 жыл бұрын
As someone that have had a to spend a lot of time in relations to hospitals and what not. Most hospitals (that are big and professional) will have a normal light menu that rotates from week to week. It's not unhealthy, but it not your protein heavy food either. That's for most people. But they will have a separate menu for ill and old people that need more fat and calories from their food, because they don't eat a lot for example. There might also be a few dishes with a protein heavy items, but it's not available to everybody in the hospital.
@rickmyers37168 жыл бұрын
Yes I always found that to be pretty inexcusable. Not unexpected though, given the role a hospital plays, economically, and maybe not wrong--from a capitalistic point of view (accept that no option of any alternative is available). I try to think of hospitals as... very exclusive and expensive hotels. This may sound silly but it fits after a bit of thought; the Doctors' and staff's expertise is the amenity for why that particular "hotel" is chosen over any alternative: they are the reason patients show up and stay, and like any business, and a hospital IS a business, they have a business model complete with financial goals, cost mitigations, a budget, and (fault lies with just the healthcare industry as a whole here I feel) every opportunity for gouging is exploited, no surprise there. (Where, in the case of the food, no hospital is "charging" for meals as a restaurant would, so with no separate, astronomically expensive allocation on the bill for meals from which they can profit, they'll mitigate the cost of those meals by serving crap meeting their criteria for cheap, safe, approved, and availible --easy to prepare --easy to serve --easy to consistently monitor [such as for patients whose intake must be very precisely controlled] --and easy/cheap to store with a high shelf-life-to-cost ratio...).. Things should be different, I agree.

I need some more supplements I got a decent healthy diet but I need some stuff to boost me up and get some gains bc I think coming off creatine is going to kill my gains.

Thanks for the video (great info)- How Creatine Works......If you’re not familiar with how creatine works here is a simple explanation. Andesine Triphosphate (ATP) fuels all muscle contraction, which is stored in the muscle cell. There is enough stored ATP in the muscle cell for about 5 to 7 seconds of intense exertion. After that the body has to use a different energy system so it takes Creatin-Phosphate (CP), which is also stored in the muscle and mixes it with Anderson Diphosphate (ADP) to make ATP. Creatine gives ADP the third phosphate molecule to make ATP.

I'm a 59 yr old woman who's been weight training for about 16 mo. I'm working with an awesome trainer who has me on a low-glycemic nutrition plan, and I've dropped 133 lbs so far...30 to go to reach my goal. The only supplement I've been using to date is Muscle Milk, along with my daily multi-vitamin, calcium, and fish oil. Do I really need anything else?
@MrPhinn16 жыл бұрын
Congrats. Nice story. I'm 54, been working out (seriously) for about 6 months. I take nothing, but have been thinking about adding......something. I've heard bad things about fish oil. Are there any side effects for you.
@k.t.rabbit95526 жыл бұрын
No ill effects to date, and I've been taking fish oil on my doctor's advice for YEARS...long before I started strength training. Maybe, as with all things, the side effects occur when you take too much? My trainer has just started me on a post-workout CREATINE regimen to aid muscle growth/strength, as we are now starting to get into some heavier weights. I'm not interested in bulking up, so I'm taking it only after heavy workouts (3x weekly), not every day. If you are checking out supplements, look into WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE first. It's not a chemical (it's made from cow's milk) and it's purpose is to promote muscle recovery. It's also very nutritious and makes a great meal replacement when I just don't have the time (or motivation) to make a healthy meal for myself. I blend it in with my fruit smoothies, or even my coffee! I also mix it up for my elderly mother, who is always battling to put on weight (she's 77 lbs. soaking wet)...she loves the coffee version with a shot of cinnamon and chocolate syrup! XD

I believe that you should only experiment with supplements when you stop getting gains from balanced meals. At least you will know what you can achieve without extra stuff, cause when you begin using them there's no way back, it is somewhat addictive, nobody wants regress.
@justagerman1408 жыл бұрын
totally agree with you
@anthonywiebe-regen31298 жыл бұрын
Well yes it can be sort of addictive but I also take creatin and protein supplements and I can very well live without them. Its no problem. But my gains are very limited because of the fact that I'm only 17 and I have a very skinny body type. I hope to be getting gains soon. I have been working out almost 2 years and havent gained weight yet although my physic is much better and muscular. I'm dieting now and supplementing and working out and sleeping right so hopefully the supplements can help a little.

Hello, I'm a 53 year old male. I've been working out most of my life (Three times a week for more than an hour). I've stopped working out several times over the years sometimes for up to a year but have always found my way back to the gym. I've always eaten pretty well over the years and always seem to loose my appetite when I stop working out so I usually lose weight and muscle tone when I stop training. My question to you is how much does supplementation very from say a thirty year old male to a 50+ individual ?. I recently got a comprehensive blood test. and found that my LDL cholesterol is a little high and my glucose Serum is also a bit high but other than that everything is normal.I take a multivitamin for 50+ males and few other things and I've changed some things in my diet and plan on getting another test in a month or so. Thanks for all your the information packed videos.

Take multivitamin, iron 18mg+ , calcium 500mg, zinc 50mg, copper 2mg, magnesium 400mg and fish oil (2-3 grams) supplements. Iron and calcium because older people usually get less of these. Zinc and copper to keep your hormones in balance, which could keep you looking younger for longer. Magnesium because everyone should take them anyway as it's almost impossible to get enough of it from the food. Fish oil will keep LDL low and your heart healthy. Take a spoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning to detox your liver.

I'll be 53 this summer and like you I've been on off at the Gym since 21. My genes probably helped me keep thin so my younger years was quite hard to get muscle. I've tried those amino acids and vitamens in my late 20's and got some gains but that much. I've taken Creatine when I started going to the gym around 49 on and off and beginning again this week after a year off. I'm starting my creatine and whey protein shakes. And to be honest, the only reason I take it now is because I see much more muscle gain in my late 40's and now then I ever did in my twenties. Now not everyone is the same but I realize I'm a late boomer I guess.

I am a woman and being working out for a year and eating healthy, but I can't put on weight. I am dangerously on the low side of everything. My question is should I take supplements? Being lazy and eating junk food won't get me fat and will put me in other health risks. Last month I started taking supplementation after my workout and that made me gain 2k to get me closer to the lower body weight limit. But I have always thought that supplements are not the best specially for someone who isn't trying to build too much muscle.

there's actually some types of pre workout that causes this problem. it all depends on how your body reacts to it. my suggestion is to switch to something else. my first pre workout was actually gold standard and I had a really bad experience with it. half hour after I took it once I got to the gym, I felt that I actually had to use the bathroom and that was taking up time that I could have been using to work out. I felt that I had to force myself to take it because I didn't want to waste my money. so after I finally finished it, I waited a while and switched to what a friend of mine recommended to me which was c4. I've used it for at least a month now and so far I have had no problems with it. I spoke with another friend about gold standard and he told me he had absolutely no problems with it. so I'm guessing that it probably has to do with how your body reacts to the pre workout. pretty much the whole thing is just try a different pre workout.

I just had an 8 month kidney scare that I had to go through. It ended this past Friday when I saw the nephrologist. She told me that my kidney function had gone down to 44% when I had my initial blood tests 8 months ago. I stopped taking the stuff after they told me that I had elevated kidney function (meaning my kidneys were so weak that they were having to work harder to do their job). Fast forward to now and my kidney function is back to 100% since I haven't touched creatine. Never going to use creatine again. Although if anyone here uses it, I'd recommend having routine bloodwork done to monitor your kidneys.
