It's not glamorous but apartment maintenance is always needed and even having a sub sect of your company to do that makes sure your company will always survive. The money isn't amazing but sure does pay the bills.

I’m a pre-apprentice at SMART Local 16 (as of 3 days ago) and the slowness is killing me. I thought as soon as I got in that I’d be drowning in work. I stumbled upon one of your videos a while ago and you inspired me to join a union. It may be slow but I have no regrets. Keep the videos coming and keep up the hard work. Maybe I’ll see you on the job site one day.

I got laid off a month ago because the carpentry company I was working for ran low on work. Had to make a lot of phone calls to find a new job. Working for a small commercial contractor now. From my experience this year, clients are baffled at how much it costs to build things now. And they pay all this money and then see young monkeys who don't know what they are doing working on their projects. Clients are running out of money and getting work is now relying on bigger clients that have money. We are on a project now, the remodel has gone over budget and we just are trying to put it back together enough so they can get an occupancy certificate.

Makes sense I just got it hired with a contracting company. The project is three buildings with 24 units each and it is in the Del Mar area California, which there are multi million dollar home around this project. There is a lot of noise which resonates with what you’re saying. And why the project hasn’t gotten started. The answer is permits permits permits and elections and all but I appreciate the videos keep making them for us seeking for insight gracias and let’s pray for a better America next yr 2025!

Good list. I'm on the commercial side and alot of these things are affecting us too. Interest rates are high, and labor/materials are just so damn expensive. Alot of our clients are simply not moving forward with their projects.

Thanks for calling it the rose garden forever and always. The houses we are doing minor work to get them sellable are 480k to 700k especially ranch homes. I can't even afford one even at 50 dollars an hour so there's your problem. We had someone buy one of the renos and they had to put electrical plumbing siding insulation almost 100k into it and it was still cheaper than flattening it and building new due to the regulations. Things like radon poisoning or terrible environmental noise only lower the price by 20 to 40k at best. I do so much cedar shake repairs way more than I use to because it's fix it or hardie it and 50% more cost. The only place I can get shake is at a small mill in sandy that in the middle of nowhere and imported from Canada. You see the issue and we live with it till it gets better or more likely worse.

@MattHmm-rq6dn i know something has to break. But then again, California has been unaffordable for 30 years plus. And look at Canada it's California on steroids. Trades men should be able to afford the houses they work on(in reason), but that's just my opinion.

@@unscriptedwithantonio MA seen landscaping crews immediately on the ocean waves splashing the ground strip out all the top soil and replace it with fresh loam with zero erosion control and no one calls them on it. While other trades need to maintain weekly inspected erosion control swaddles and fences etc.

In my area the business reps make Six figures the journeyman make mid 50s after taxes and dues. To attract more to the union or keep those in the union, with all the perks in 20 years the pension will be a million in your account

I think something we'll see in the coming years is a shrinking of the gap of income between guys on the ground actually doing the building, and management and other less involved positions. With the shortage of people with the skills to actually do the work, further limited by those with the knowledge and skill ALSO being physically fit enough to do it efficiently, makes those men highly, highly valuable. There comes a point where management salaries have to come down, to make room in the budget for the guys actually doing the work. And I don't see anything wrong with that. Our work is hard, there are some definite benefits to getting into the office or into a supervisor role. People will still be looking to get out of the field and fill those roles, even with more comparable incomes.
@unscriptedwithantonio
@unscriptedwithantonio 25 күн бұрын
@Theviewerdude i can see that. It seems like a lot of people want good wages without doing the actual building. As long as the skills become harder to come by. The wages have to increase. I appreciate the thoughtful comment.

So I joined Carpenters Union Local 93 in Ottawa, Canada this past September. I have a bad hernia now and I'm off work. I'm seeing the way it's going and I'm concerned cause I don't think projects are gonna get off the ground cause people don't have money to buy houses. Capital City of Canada with lots of government contracts but I'm really think the future is not looking good.

Hello 5th term gen. carp. apprentice- LU 541 here. I've been watching your videos for awhile now. Things are slow everywhere, and it would be great if people coming in without knowledge of the industry would be told about times like this. We've lost a lot of apprentices over the last year, but that's a subject for another time. Anyways I always enjoy your insight. Thanks for putting out the content bro!

@WildEST19XXcarD i believe it's one of the hardest parts of our careers. We keep hearing about labor shortages. Yet work is really slow, and I'm still not sure where all the infrastructure money went. Thank you for watching. I appreciate you.
