5 Reasons Why Guild Wars 2 Is Great In 2022

I'm not affiliated in any way with Arenanet, I just happen to like the game!
Also: This is not meant to trash the other two games I'm referring to, New World and Elder Scrolls Online. I also like to play them for different reasons, but these are the aspects in which Guild Wars 2 outclasses them in my opinion.

grinding mobs is a really good way to level but you got to kill the mobs no one else has killed for a while as you get bonus xp for killing them which can be up to 5 times the xp than you get for killing the mob for example people do not like to go into water so you can pretty much guarantee killing in water will net you a huge chunk of xp so if your low level and see water jump in kill everything and you will find your getting loads of bonus xp

@@darkzim3872 That's true. It can level you up fast, especially if you are under the effects of bonus XP gain from food and utility. However, you don't really know which mobs have not been killed recently. Most aggressive mobs are constantly tagged. You mentioned water. That's only true if there are no water related stuff, most notably hearts, to complete around. Neutral mobs in more remote areas are usually left alone as well What I would say is, while doing other stuff, if you do find a mob that gave bonus XP, clear that area. Otherwise, focus on hearts, map completion, events and story development. You will likely hit 80 way before the final chapters of the personal story.

For me GW2 is a masterpiece that is way beyond in quality than the rest of MMOs. Besides the things you say, I find the worlds really gorgeous and well designed, the animations for everything are extremely well done and enjoyable, the costumization of armor and weapons is the best and the love of the designers and developers are present in almost every aspect of the game. ESO is not a bad game, but if feels mediocre and the animations make me quit the game.

I would love to explore ESO's world indefinitely (I actually bought some of the expansions), but the player character class is so uninspiring. It does not feel awesome to be ESO's hero because the character looks lame and fights lame. I think it's the opposite case of BDO.

My heart lives in ESO for the lore/world and freedom of endless options. But GW2 is probably the best overall designed MMO I've tried. I normally don't give a crap about combat but [if you turn off tab targeting to action camera] the combat in this game is thrilling, especially the pet and underwater systems.

The free to (limited)play and buy to play aspect should be stressed. Money is tight and personally I couldn't pay monthly for a game as a teen so I chose Guild Wars over WoW and other sub based MMOs of that type. And now I couldn't even imagine "renting" a game anymore. Also the epic personal story shouldn't be ignored. Apparently nobody plays games for their story anymore but that would be a mistake for GW2. The world-spanning journey with Lord of the Rings level world building and tonnes of beloved characters is a clear highlight for me. Admittedly it starts out mediocre in the 2012 made vanilla campaign, but reaches epic dimension breaking heights with the follow up expansions Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire and the serialised Living Story add-ons.

I've been playing since guild wars 1, wayyy back. I love the story but if there's one thing that disappoints me, it's that they set up a lot of loose threads in each story. Some are never explored and some are explored years later. This could be fixed if they added quests of some kind, but the devs have said that they hate "questing" as a concept. It's an unfortunate side-effect of their story-telling.

GW2 makes a lot of things very good and even better than it's contenders. As somebody who has picked it up not too long ago I have to say combat and build complexity is a big plus but also quite hard to get into because of how unique it is compared to other RPGs. Also the large number of currencies and materials is actually one of my biggest critique points for this game. At least if you are not a veteran. I think there is no other RPG where I had to read / watch so many guides than for GW2 and many things are still in the dark for me.

honestly, i do agree having a wiki open to farm good mogs, like the armor set from dragonfall, or the bounty hunter set. however if you're unwilling to grind pve content for the currency there's always the option to do wvw if you select that zones reward for wvw xp. Other than that, the story is brilliant, there's no real "go here kill 5 wolfs - yet i know youve just killed a dragon but, wolf need killing"

Thing that i would like to add: the game's economy and cash shop is very friendly. You can make gold very easily in the game through playing the content and selling items on the TP. The cash shop only sell cosmetic and convenience items. You can also use the currency exchange to get the premium currency by trading the in-game gold. Apart from the expansions which can only be bought by irl money (quite cheaply and definitely worth the price imo), everything in the game can be obtained just by playing it.

Currently playing Guild Wars 1 in its entirety with the girlfriend before we move onto GW2. Would highly recommend if anyone missed out on that, and has the patience; it's a blast, and getting to see the same world evolve into the second game is really cool. Anyway, last night I launched up Guild Wars 2 and started an Asura character just so we could both have a look at the starting area and quests - we have no interest in playing as Asurans (we always play big viking types). Literally, I created a junk character that will get deleted, intending to just see the opening cutscenes etc. ...One hour later, I'm running around a swamp defending a village of frog people from attackers, and trying out some elementalist powers, and I have a set of fire powers and a set of ice powers, all with really distinctive animations and effects, and then I find a staff and suddenly, immediately, just from changing my weapon, I have five totally different fire powers and five totally different ice powers. To reiterate - I created a junk character with a class and race I had no intention of using, and ended up having a blast and lost track of time. That's some good game design right there.

You can play any class in any content and stick to a build you love and be able to perform well. There isn’t a single decent pvp build on metabattle I can’t bring to gold tier ranked pvp. In EVERY other RPG I have always felt I have to stick to something specific to have a good time and be relevant. ESO being a close second, but I concur with the best in slot issue in that game.

Between the mounts, the different masteries, weapon skills and specialisations, the gameplay in GW2 is ridiculously creative. It allows for any number of combinations of skills, whatever works for your particular build. Then add legendary weapons and armour, raids, fractals, three expansion packs, five seasons of content between them, plus achievements, and the whole 'fashion wars' aspect of pimping out your char to look exactly as you want. Oh, and the base game is free and 70$ gets you three expansions, it's ridiculously good value for money. There's also PvE, WvW and PvP gameplay, plus all the jumping puzzles, races, seasonal events (5 per year). Add to thats guild missions, title mastery tracks, a ridiculously deep crafting system, I can list stuff for an hour and it still doesn't cover all the content in the game. The visuals are still beautiful ten years after release, the gameplay and combat is never stale, there's so many different environments with crazy amounts of verticality and improvisation possible, the story is (mostly) satisfying and has epic moments just that you just have to sit back and bask in. Most fun I've ever had in a game, hands down, whether by myself, with randoms or friends. Reminds me of playing N64 games as a 90s kid, it gives me that feeling even to this day.

@jcm2606
@jcm2606 2 жыл бұрын
The main problem with ESO's overland group content isn't the difficulty, IMO (it's *a* problem, but not the *main* problem), it's how unrewarding they are for the time that you spend doing them. Pretty much the only two reasons to do overland group content is either that you need something that drops from it, or that you're so incredibly bored that you'd go out of your way to do them. This isn't the case with GW2's open world group content (for the most part), as it can be fairly rewarding (with some maps being *the* best gold farms in the game) and engaging, so you'll often see people going out of their way to do the group content when it's available, even if it wasn't something they were planning on doing.

If the branded killed you, you became branded with a new skillbar based on your class and joined the branded horde. It was like a zombie apocalypse. I ran a mobile thief build and was one of the last players to go down. I was fleeing the massive horde and trying to pick off stragglers. Eir and Garm were rally points for the surviving players for a while. That is still the most epic thing I've played online.

Whole leveling via crafting is possible, it's also so expensive that you really can't do it until you've already got a few level 80 characters to help bankroll your alt to do it. At that point it's a good way to kill 2 birds. Also leveling via killing mobs CAN be faster but you have to go about it in a very specific and strange way. XP boosters of every type and then go find neutral con mobs to fight. Mobs gain an XP bonus for how long it's been since they spawned. Hostile mobs tend to get killed pretty quickly as they start fights with players, while neutral ones tend to be left alone. Even though no one likes the water zones in any MMO, finding a place with a lot of neutral water based things to fight nets you the largest XP bonuses. When leveling some alts in one of the new End of Dragons zones, there's a large section of water full of mostly just neutral fish and such and you can go from one end of the zone to the other and get several levels in a single hour. And you can fight them a bit earlier than normal and go from like 72-80 in a couple hours tops. It's really efficient but also a lot more boring, but it depends on the player.

The dungeons in ESO are also so much better than what GW2 has (fractals). And yes, I admire GW2's open world with the dynamic events and the mounts and all. My favorite mmo, and I've played most of the others out there for a decent amount of time. The negative I'd say, is the reason it doesn't retain a fair number of new players, is because there isn't a clear sense of direction that other games have. That works in its favor with many, but with some, it turns them away because they don't want to figgure out their own style of gameplay.

Well, GW2 is definetly fast paced, but button mashing will not get you far, unless you play necromancer ( that's a meme ) I find new players doing exactly that, they use every single skill they can, which is wrong, like using knockback on enemies when I pulled them together for easier AoE is mildly infuriating. But I understand why you want something slower. As for the social focus, there is plenty of things in the game that creates communities or guilds around certain type of content. It can be anything. @MaselMMO
@MaselMMO 2 жыл бұрын
There's runes that have different effects, but it's not really comparable. GW2 lives off of the sheer amount of skills every class has available since every weapon has different skills per class. Gearsets are pretty, but they don't provide substance to a particular class. Especially since ESO has hybridised (and thus streamlined) everything, most classes feel very much the same In gw2, every class feels distinguished. A Necromancer in gw2 feels like a unique class with three different elite specializations, while a Necromancer in ESO is basically a "budget" Warden

M6 m7 i cannot have patience anymore to do those dungeons brainless and trying to get btter gear also for random battlegrounds because you cannot go there with 30k hp items and after you finally get to a decent mythic even if you are casual or not you still working hard for that like a robot same thing over and over and over again they bring in the reset …. I would rather farm maps alons in groups or raid groups with all the events they have, achievements , exploring with mounts, crafting enjoy how i want depending on how i feel dungeons wvw and so on instead lf mythic group as soon as inlog in to start farming brainless same couple of dungeons and paying monthly for that

Guild Wars 2 to me feels like a game made for the players, rather than being a vehicle for some monetization scheme. Any money I drop in the gem shop, I drop as a direct result of the game simply being awesome and me wanting to support it and not because of artificially added inconveniences I would have to pay my way out of. When I play Guild Wars 2, I just drop into any map (preferrably expansion maps) and go wherever the adventure takes me - the game has so much stuff to do, and all of it feels really fresh and non-filler! Guild Wars 2 does away with a lot of the traditional MMORPG timesinks and focusses on giving the player maximum uptime on their fun! :)

I saw that gw2 was better than most even in its beginning, and took it as benchmark for when I react if another mmo comes, and so far I haven't really seen anything that even has come to close. Warframe is one? Still I don't count Warframe as mmorpg, but it was cool in the beginning. I quit the game after alpha and beta stages were over, and when it started getting "ready" as it got bit too messy for my taste. I liked how it was simple and how you could just play around with your stealth heroes. I'm not sure how that class plays now, but last time I did it I remember the game being just a races through objectives. Not really that inviting, nor warm, nor cosey, and those are the things that I wait to see being implemented in the game in a way that is not on the way, or too far away. MMORPG's were more like that for me when I was kid, and didn't know to get into analysing the game, and now that job has already been done by other faster players, and easily found by google, and so by me too. That really drives me nuts in the end.

ESO the overlap is boring as hell. It's beautiful and full of quests and things to discover which I love but the enemies are stupid easy and so boring. Might as just be running around smacking trees with my sword. ESO not having areas of the map requiring to be a higher level and better gear to survive is a massive weakness. Great I got sweet gear from that drop look at all those stats. Too bad I don't care because nothing will require me to need that better gear until endgame or dungeons. Really hope GW2 overland and general combat will stay challenging and engaging

I've been playing for 2 months now, and I'm having fun. Though I have to disagree on your first point. The main issue I have with GW2 is the LACK of theorycrafting possibilities, when it comes to abilities (which is the most important thing for me in an MMORPG). Let me explain. While there are differences between different elite specs, you often end up using the same weapons as every other player of a specific elite spec. Even worse, with a lot of classes, you are using the same abilities/weapons that you've been using since you started the game. The issue lies in the fact that you can't customize you weapon abilities (like you can with heal, utility and elite skills), and there isn't a sense of progression of unlocking more powerful / better looking abilities for a class. I like my Firebrand Guardian. Axe/Torch is the only weapon combo I actually like, all other weapons have one or more abilities that I just dislike. Hammer has a painfully slow 3rd AA. I can't say I like its number 4 either. Greatsword feels kinda clunky to me, and I overall dislike the way those abilities look and feel. Same with Staff. Mace is alright, Focus is decent, and Shield is meh. Another issue is that certain weapons are meant for certain roles (Staff, Mace - Supp/Heal) so using them as your main dps weapons just doesn't work. The issue is the same on all other classes. With Mesmer, I've found that I like pretty much all of the weapons and their abilities (visually, and somewhat how they feel to use), but I just dislike the class mechanics, specializations and traits. I love my Reaper Necro, because of that massive Scythe in Reaper Shroud and the shroud abilities itself. Can't say I'm a fan of its weapons though, but I'm stuck with using a main hand Axe with a Staff in 2nd slot as the most tolerable out of them all. Herald, the usual Mace+Axe combo, as there aren't any other options for condi. Other options are fine (besides the staff which I dislike), but I'm not a fan of the class mechanics and the energy thing you have to manage by swapping legends. You get the point. But let's get back to Guardian for a sec. While elite specs do offer differences in playstyle (in some cases more in some less), you are actually at the core a Guardian. What do I mean by that? Well, you have your F1 that applies burning, F2 with healing, F3 with defense boons. Firebrand actually goes a bit further by offering entire new skillbars when you use those virtues/tomes. The class itself is still centered around burning foes and providing support. The overall class theme is the same, the skillbar is full of blue abilities. Mesmer is really similar. All 3 elite specs have F1, F2, F3, F4 that do almost the same things. F1 power damage, F2 condi damage, F3 daze. F4 is the only ability that changes somewhat between the 3 specs. Yes, the elite specs can have different purposes, but end up using the same weapons/abilities as the rest. You might ask, what's the problem with that? The problem is, they wont be adding any new professions, only new elite specs. So in most cases you wont get a completely new class whenever they release a new spec, only a different feel of the same class. The only real exception to this could be Druid, as it greatly alters the class. There are obviously other elite specs that change your playstyle, either by altering the class mechanics (Scourge, Firebrand, Mechanist), or by introducing new weapons that alter your playstyle (Deadeye, Specter), but those are few and far between. I've seen someone suggest that we get the ability to choose weapon skills, just like we can choose our healing/utility/elite skills. Though I wouldn't go past 2-3 skill choices per slot. If you add too much then it really becomes an issue to balance it all out. Those options could go along the lines of changing between a single target, AoE, or a cc ability on Guardian's Greatsword, for example. The weapon should still have a unique identity tied to it, but with ability to choose how you want to play it. Can't say I'm a fan of having no tanks in the game either, I see a lot of games trying it, but for me it just makes the game worse. In GW2 you are shooting yourself in a foot by choosing to favor defense over dps in most situations (I guess in certain PvP situations it might work). Anyways that's my 2 cents. I absolutely love that you can just not play for a few days, and go back without "losing" progress or feeling like you are lagging behind. Also you have so many options, that every day you could do something different. One day you could play some PvP, the next day WvW, maybe some meta events after that, then maybe strikes or raids on weekends, completing the story, going for collections or legendaries... There's a ton of options.

I started playing GW2 because I found no decent reason to think it was a bad game. Everybody praise it. So here I go with the bad. The leveling gets boring. It's all world events that feel like a chore once you realize it's the big majority you will do to level up. Unless you are an emotional person who can get attached to your char's personal story, it will feel irrelevant. The Character models feel and seem small, they don't stand out, even the more luxurious ones. Like in other games where you look at a high level character and admire their gear. 'Balance' is the enemy of fun in games. I noticed you use damage meters in GW2. Are you having trouble completing the highest end content? Are any of the classes or specs in the game unable to complete the highest end content in the game? If not, then who gives a sh** if all of the specs in a game are within 5% or less damage of each other when played correctly as so many people think is the definition of 'balance'? 'Balance' is the reason why every class in WoW now has to have 30 different abilities that are each, individually, boring AF to press. The entire first chapter of your video talks about 'balance' in GW2 and ESO, but I would caution you to be careful what you wish for. I, for one, would MUCH rather have an unbalanced game where landing abilities feels incredible and each ability is fun to press, rather than having everything homogenized down to WoW levels all so the top 5% of players can stroke their E-Peen off to damage meters which literally mean nothing, as you seem to do.

@MaselMMO 2 жыл бұрын
Ehhh when you look at my other videos you'd know that for me, endgame balance is not the main goal.
