If rolex raised their msrp to the current gray market price would you buy? Be honest you want a rolex because it's quality and if u buy at msrp it's worth more money. If it was worth less you wouldn't buy one you'd consider other brands

@@technom3598 well having owned 3 Rolex's in the mid 2000s and early 2010's and getting them at discount....ummm that's a hard no from me. Only difference is Rolex starting dumping more money into Marketing and the Hype Machine. Watches are still the same quality, but not even close to what their current MSRP is or the Grey Market. At the end of the Day, Rolex will always be a entry level watch.
@technom35983 жыл бұрын
@@bber45 rolex is nowhere near an entry level watch. The hype machine from rolex has been the same. In fact they do less hyping now because they don't need to hype. Demand out strips supply and they are charging too little for their items. Coupled with instagram and people craming into the watch market... It's a perfect storm for over list.
@bber453 жыл бұрын
@@technom3598 lol Listen up Fanboy. Rolex isn't even a "top tier" Luxury Brand. Nowhere near close to PP, VC, or AP even though they are pretending to be. Nor is it even old or originally Swiss like Omega, Brietling, Tissot, etc... Pre-Covid Rolex was estimated to be spending 80-100 Million Swiss Franks on Marketing. That's a pretty penny for advertising. As for demand, well we know for a fact Rolex is Controlling Supply and Demand. Hence, their increase in prices at MSRP, their new bull shit "Preferred client list" and slow production rate. Only un-educated Millenialls, Hipsters, and people with shit tons of money are eating it up. Rolex was cool, now it's just a good advertising company making money hand over fist. And you're walking right into it.

Oh yes. A while ago a guy I know at an AD told me they had a woman came in with a gold Date-Just saying "my husband bought this for me here in your store and it's stopped working! I expected better things from Rolex!" But it became clear that it was actually a watch her late husband had bought there almost 30 years previously and which had never once been serviced since that day! According to the woman the timekeeping hadn't ever deteriorated to any intolerable degree either - the watch just suddenly stopped working. The good news - a Rolex service brought it roaring back to life for (presumably in her case) another 30 years...

While Rolex might not be incredible in terms of their finishing or complications, the fact that they’re completely independent and privately owned is awesome. The fact that virtually every single component in the watch is made in-house from their own proprietary materials and is tested to an extremely high standard - no one else can really say that
@nameless_no_name7 ай бұрын
my GMT Master 2 is pretty complicated. The Finishing has minute details which are beautiful but also acts as hard to counterfeit aspects. The 18k gold is refined and forged onsite and not farmed out. It takes a year to make one watch..... I'd say the quality is pretty elite. My buddy just inherited his grandfather's Rolex that was made in 1959 and it look and works awesomely. He'll give it to his son some day. I think that says something about the elite level of quality of an iconic watch if it can be functional, coveted by most, and relevant likely after FOUR generations.

It's a weird situation right now with Rolex. There is a lot of hype - basically a good mid quality range watch is treated as if it were haute horology watchmaking, which it ain't. Everybody (and their pet dog) desperately wants one. People only _admit_ to wanting one if they can actually get one (either by being a preferred client at AD or because they can afford to pay over the odds on the grey market.) Many people are not buying them to wear, but rather as "investments" to keep in a safe, or to flip. It's not a healthy situation. It may be a bubble that shrinks or bursts? But damn! They are funky watches!

Rolex's are great watches for sure. Definitely not worth the aftermarket prices. They are also very overhyped. But that is no surprise given their huge marketing budget. Omega, FPJ, certain Seiko models and my glycine .. they have held value 5. Seiko, Grand Seiko, JLC, Glycine, Citizen are all versatile as well

Rolex make some epic watches just hate the stigma surrounding the brand. A rolex is the equivalent of a Range Rover in cars. Wealthy people who can afford them buy them (fair enough) but the status symbol of the brand means people who can’t afford them buy them (keeping up with the jones’).

It’s not The company’s fault why the prices and scarcity of the watches are so high and hard to find it’s the people who buy and sells at this ridiculous prices. Rolex is here to stay baby whether we like them or not. I like how they do things to protect their brand..

I do not like bracelets because leather is much more comfortable and softer and smells better and is much more personal...and leather is more elegant...more delicate means more elegant...more robust is more sporty and working class....and why would I need a versatile watch? I am a watch collector so I have watches for all possible occasions which fit perfectly for these occasions....yes money always suits some but it’s not enough to buy an expensive watch and not care about the occasion, because not caring doesn’t show respect and good manners...
