Watching your vids just makes me think how much better we had it "back in the day". I remember passing our tests at 17 and hopping onto the "of course it's 33bhp officer" 400cc grey imports in the early 2000's. I wouldn't call the 650R a race bike, much like I wouldn't be calling any of the recent kawasaki commuter bikes in drag a "ninja". Biggest insult to the ninja name is the Ninja 250 (if you ever owned a ZXR250C, you'd know where I'm coming from) In terms of chassis technology, it's taken a step back compared to the 600RR, which is pretty much a 15 year bike now- cradle frame/steel chassis instead of aluminium perimeter beams, coupled with simplistic linkages instead of the unit link pro swingarm. Been tempted to look at a 650R as a commuter because of how simple it is and the fact that most A2 bikes these days focus on usable torque rather than chasing revs at the expense of midrange. The days of being 19 and hooning full power superbikes are long gone sadly.
@cuddlycocaroach
@cuddlycocaroach 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I have to agree that it is not a ss bike, which leaves me quite let down. There was no point giving it the body it has now compared to the 600rr's body. As the years go on, power also goes down at an equal rate. Old bikes have the power that none of the bikes have nowadays. Raw power...

@@cuddlycocaroach Don't get me wrong, the most fun I had on a bike on the back roads was on my ZXR250 15 years ago. That said, I had fun on the CBR500 around the country roads because you can just pin it everywhere and giggle at the basic chassis setup. In some respects, the A2 licencing laws has allowed more folk to, in a way, enjoy riding within more sensible limits.... Much like how most of us would much prefer a hot hatch on a B road than say an M4 or even a supercar. What sorta MPG are you getting out of your 650? I'm sorta deliberating a used CBR600F from 2003 as a commuter (if and when the Fazer 1000 decides to go pop), and save a few bob in the process or spend twice as much on something that does look like a baby blade, and probably wouldn't have the same issues with charging that befell hondas of old (don't get me started or reg/recs and burnt out stators on my old hondas)

1:24 that’s what I’m scared of. I have a ninja 400 right now and for my second bike I don’t know if a 600cc would be too much to even go through the gears without going really fast I feel like the cbr650r is just the right amount speed to have fun with

Hey man, there are many 600cc's that you can get. The ER6, ducati 696, XJ6 etc. Just dont get a supersport 600cc that would be a bit too much of a jump from ninja 400. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Not a good look, regardless of what you are doing or how hot it is. Correct gear is vital from the newbies to the worlds best riders… Anyhow, I’m keen to know what exhaust you have on your bike as it does sound amazing! 👍😎🇦🇺

Hey mate, love your videos and appreciate what you do. Just a quick question, why do you think the r7 is a terrible bike? Cheers.
@cuddlycocaroach
@cuddlycocaroach 3 жыл бұрын
So the main reason would be that they lowered its power to unreasonable numbers, didn't make an effort to optimize the engine / create a new one. They just made a racing version of the MT07. It looks stunning but I am let down that they stopped the R6's production for this.

I was about to order the Yoshimura, but the price was £900 for the exhaust, £150 for shipping, and £200 for taxes. And the audio isn't that good for my expectations. Akrapovic SC etc are also good but didn't meet my expectations. Arrow was close but I went with the MIVV because it gave exactly the sound I wanted. Especially for the price of £450 it was really good! Hope this helps!

CBR650R restricted is not such a nice bike, I went to visit a Honda dealership as this was my main competition to a R7. The dealership had stated that the restrictor is something that Is not easily removable and is a high end restrictor which kicks in JUST as the bike starts to hit its ideal power which means it kicks in usually when ur in the middle of an overtake on a motorway or whatnot and makes a horrific clunky sound. The main reason that puts me off this bike is unlike the R7 which uses a throttle restriction you can't "just remove it" therefore are stuck with a horrific restriction kit. The argument is you could just buy the bike de-restricted but then in an accident you're basically done for as it's clear you've derestreicted the bike, whereas crash without a throttle restriction there is no proof that you took it off yourself as it could've easily came off in the crash.
@cuddlycocaroach
@cuddlycocaroach 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. So, as you know, there are different types of restrictors. Yes the r7’s one is easier to remove in that sense, and it has the better type of restriction. In an accident yes it would be a difficult way to say you had x restrictor on with the cbr as its hard to take out. But if a police pulls you over without a derestricted CBR, they cant just look and not see it, as it isnt visible. The MT07 one is very visible and easy to check. Both have their pros and cons. The power of the R7 really puts me off. The throttle restrictor really gets annoying and I couldn’t live with it to be honest. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
@DanBikeX
@DanBikeX 2 жыл бұрын
@@cuddlycocaroach Yeah I fully agree, thorttle restrictors hands down have got to be the worst thing on this planet, feeling the point where you cant pull that throttle anymore, ewww. I'm 18 now and about to look at getting my next bike, still stuck between the CBR650R and the R7. I know when comparing both unrestricted versions that the CBR is wayyy better but when I'm looking at them both restricted the R7 just seems to be the better bike, solumnly due to the simplicity of removing the restrictor after feeling confident to do so. Do you have any experience on a restricted CBR?
@cuddlycocaroach
@cuddlycocaroach 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanBikeX Personally I don’t no, so I can’t tell you it would be better/worse than an r7. I have however had an mt07 before restricted and de-restricted. I wasn’t a fan of either. Yamaha has always been a favourite to me having owned many (R25, XJ6, MT07, R6), but this new honda has just had me fall in love with it. Especially with the new rear end mod I got for it. To be completely honest, The restriction difference shouldn’t be much between the two. The sound difference alone would be my go-to. Think of that alone. When I was 17 having a 4cylinder was a flex to be honest when other people had 2cylinders ahahahah. Makes a lot of heads turn. Then again the r7 looks as sexy as my current cbr so they are equal in that department. I think i’m going to try to try the R7 when I can! Let me know what you go with!
