Some girls don't even (of their own accord) give the guy a notice if they flake. Or they forget, but in general I've noted girls are bad at keeping track of events, for whatever reason. So it helps to remind and verify that a date is on the day of and/or day before, to verify that it's still on (and then in my experience, the girl will let you know if she's coming or not).

One very good tip I have learned to prevent girls from flaking or disappearing on you is to make yourself memorable to them. One way or another, you have to get them to remember you. For example, showing each other your Facebook profiles (provided that she even has one) is a very effective method of having her to remember you with little to no doubt or fail.
