I have a theory that my recurring hip/pelvis/SI joint issues are due to tucking my tailbone. I’ve always been told that I have too much sway in my lower back so I try to counter it when exercising. But every once in awhile I’ll do a squat, and suddenly everything seizes up and spasms and I can’t walk for 3-4 days afterwards. Thanks for the video, I’ll stop!

I’m 51 and I think I’ve tucked my tail my entire life. I’ve been concentrating on untucking for a year, I still have to think about untucking all day. My back pain is reduced. Do you think my natural curve can come back? Thanks!

Glad your back is reduced. Habits take a while to unlearn. As for will the natural curve return... impossible to say. But hopefully! As long as you are in less pain let's celebrate that!

I’d like to know why tucking your tailbone is such a thing in exercise classes more geared toward women (Barr, yoga…). I’m a woman who learned most of my athletic poses through more traditionally male sports (rugby) and was introduced to the concept of tucking tailbone after going to some of these more female- dominated exercise classes between seasons and have been just perplexed for years as to why such focus was put on getting your back j to a position that would leave you very vulnerable to an impact or put dangerous stress on your back if you’re lifting heavy objects. Why? Is this pose considered feminine?

Honestly I don't know. I think mostly it's from well meaning people thinking that a curve in the lumbar spine is inherently "bad" and that a 'straight spine is a healthy spine'. I've actually heard that before in classes. I also wonder if there is some vanity stuff, honestly I just don't know. What I do know is that anatomy says the spine is the most stable and longest with it's natural curves. The spine is curved! stop trying to straighten it! Nature knows best!

@@DiHickman ah man, that sucks. It's pretty bad where I am too. This will never end. Sigh. I am at home. Staying away from the public.
