I’m from texas and still live here. Those telling you not to move here is only doing so because they have problems with “outsiders “. Truth is you will love it. Cheaper than a lot of states, more things to do. And texas is still a mostly empty slate that is open for any possibilities! Please come visit to try us out then feel free to move here if you like it! We really do welcome you.

I have family ALL OVER Texas, so here is my list of good reasons why one needs to think hard before moving to Texas: 1. ANYWHERE you live in Texas, the weather will be HOT; usually YEAR ROUND. 2. If you have allergies, then Texas is a poor choice. It is among the top ten worst states for allergies. 3. House and car prices are a lot cheaper than many other states (such as California). HOWEVER, Texas gets you in the wallet when it comes time to pay property taxes and auto insurance. You will pay substantially MORE in property taxes and car insurance than in many other states (such as California, Oregon, etc.). 4. People in Texas are on average far more concerned over MATERIAL things, than say in California and other states. Your neighbors will be far more actively 'keeping up with the Joneses' then what you will experience in other states. If you choose to drive the same old car (instead of buying a new car every several years) then be aware that your neighbors will disdainfully take notice of this. If you are a woman, then get ready to experience far more peer pressure to LOOK GOOD ANYTIME YOU STEP INTO PUBLIC. Your hair had better be well groomed and you'd better be dressed neatly. If you want to be "casual" then DON'T move to Texas. 5. The bug problem is HORRENDOUS, regardless of where you live in Texas. Many of the bugs there could carry away the family cat, lol. 6. Many of the major cities (such as Houston) have just as terrible a problem with major traffic as do any other cities outside of Texas. If you think that moving to Texas is gonna dramatically decrease stressful drives to and from your job, then think again. 7. On average, food prices are more expensive in Texas than in many other states. 8. On average, flooding is far worse in Texas (especially in the cities) than in California and other states. 9. If you have any fear of hurricanes and/or tornadoes then DON'T MOVE TO TEXAS, period. 10. Be prepared to do home repairs A LOT MORE OFTEN IN TEXAS than in other states. This is due to the extreme weather. 11. Be prepared to pay higher insurance for you home than in many other states. This is primarily due to the tornadoes and hurricanes that Texas experiences.

Having lived in CA, TX and the Midwest, I have seen pockets of materialism in all these states. Depends on the areas you live in each of those states. In TX, if you live out more in the country, you will find less of it , than in the cities. Also in TX, while there may be some who are concerned with how you look, there are also those who are laid back and don’t care. You will find that in any state. Personally, I think some of the friendliest and most helpful people, have been in Texas,.

Excellent video! I was fortunate enough to get in prior to the current craze that has taken over the housing madness. I moved here in Sep. 2020 in an area north of McKinney. I LOVE it! One thing that makes Texas more attractive to military retirees is the fact that 100% disabled veterans pay no property taxes. It's a huge benefit for which I am grateful as retired Air Force. It's probably why you see so many DV plates in Texas. The DFW Metroplex has so much to offer and the growth is insane!

I moved from Houston to E TN a year ago and it’s not even close. My quality of life improved dramatically all around. Example...bought a lake house here for $300k, taxes only $1,500 and no income tax. In Houston, was paying over $6k for almost same priced house. The streets completely flood in 3 minutes of rain because there’s no where for it to go anymore. I don’t miss Houston one bit. The traffic in Houston is filled with complete road rage. EVERY single day I was stressed out spending over 2 hours a day in traffic. Here, less than 10 minutes and my stress level? What’s that? I’ve added 10 years to my life moving here...please stay away!

I'm not too concerned with #1 or #2, but #3 through #5 , plus flooding are a concern. Corruption can be found across the country, so that's a draw.. Texas has it's own unique beauty, although I-10 (west of San Antonio) can be a long desolate drive once you get out past a certain point. #1 can be solved with a pool, or AC. @@michellemarie1197 We lived in Texas 3 times along with several other states an two other countries. We retired to California because of the weather and natural beauty. We live on a small lake in the forested foothills of Northern California. Home prices in our area are higher than Dallas but a bit lower than Austin. To replicate our house on a lake in the Austin area our overall taxes would be higher in Texas. California politics and regulations are awful and will probably eventually force us to move away from a location we love.

Todd , Always enjoy Your Real Estate videos. The pluses still outway the negatives any way you look at Texas. 1. Denver median home prices is $ 500,000. Seattle median home price is $ 700,000. It is very hard for young people, just out of college and with student loans to afford living there. 2. Living in Washington or Oregon would be a real concern with Tsunami's Many coastal communities are built on sand or "filled in " soil that will liquidify. 3. Living in Upper Midwest with Freezing Rain and Blizzards makes for long Winters. 4.The larger cities in Texas have Great Schools. Good place to start family. ( SPORTS) 5. Longer growing season leads to more fruits and vegitables for longer periods. 6. Warmer temperatures but a little less humidity. (Ask UT baseball players) 7. Texas has Big Cities with lots of cars, but you would not be driving from one end of town to the other. You could stay off the Interstates. 8. Lots of jobs. (many regional offices that would also have opportunity for employment). 9. High property taxes are offset by NO STATE INCOME TAX. ( Good for retirees) 10. If you wanted to own a dog ( many young people do) you could build a nice dog house and leave him ouside for .......most days of the year. (No need to rush home evey night after work.) 11. Texan's are well known for BIG HEARTS and LOVING CARING COMMUNITIES.

Dallas has one of the loveliest cityscapes in the world, but if you prefer natural beauty, you come to south Texas Hill Country, or you move to east Texas. Depending on how much you love the plains (and scenic canyons) far north Texas may be preferable. Then, there’s the gulf coast and the historic city of Galveston, which make for great tourism. If you like rustic, and you don’t have to worry about employment, then far west Texas has Big Bend and Terlingua.

The lack of scenery is further augmented by unchecked sprawl with cookie cutter subdivisions and box stores. This sprawl seemingly has no discernable pattern. Development permits are almost rubber stamped with no opposition and usually no meaningful zoning. Actually this isn't uniquely a Texas thing but indicative of the sunbelt region.

Brandon, This is the risk of recording what you say. I have NO CLUE why that came out of my mouth. My parents live in Galveston and I spent about every other weekend going there as a kid. I love our beaches and more. My main point was that our major cities (bulk of the population) don't come here for the natural beauty. It is here, but Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio aren't known for natural beauty. I could dig into the Trinity River, Brazo Bayou, SA river walk, Austin's white rock and Lakes etc. etc.

PROPERTY TAXES.... Texas = 1.83% of assessed value. California = 1.0% of assessed value. ******PROP 13 ADVANTAGE***** Prop 13 says your purchase price REMAINS your ASSESSED VALUE for as long as you own your home. That 'assessment' can only be increased 2% per year MAX... Example, I bought my home 15 years ago for $425,000 today it is worth $880,000.. I pay property taxes on that original $425,000 x 1.% = $4,250 in Texas, I would be paying 1.83% on $880,000 = $16,104. In the next 8 to 10 years my house will go over $1.2 million dollars in value. Texas taxes = $1,200,000 x 1.83% = $21,960 per year ( = $1830 PER MONTH IN PROPERTY TAXES ALONE...?? REALLY???))... In California my "BASIS" remains $425,000 (plus a MAXIMUM increase of 2% per year) I might be paying $5,800 (about $483 per month) in taxes on a $1.2 million dollar home. The reason taxpayers in California passed Prop 13, is that long time home owners.. like senior citizens were being TAXED OUT of their own homes...

@@cmscms123456 $425K? You could buy about 3 houses for that here in Texas, now.. What people are not getting is yes the rate is higher but it is based on the home value. Also there is an over 65 exemption here. I pay less than 1.5K . On my 2 story 4 bedroom lake house. My 200K house would be about 800k in CA. So actual out of pocket tax money payed here is less for the same sized house.

Texas is a pretty cool place . Every state has its advantages and disadvantages. You like the ocean ? There's a long stretch of coastline from Sea Rim State park to South Padre Island. Who's saying there's no natural beauty? What about Big Bend , Guadalupe Mountains, Palo Duro Canyon , Monahans Sandhills, Texas Hill County with its beautiful lakes and rivers ? From marshlands to mountains Texas has it all. It isn't the most beautiful state but far away from just boring looking.

The tax thing isn't necessarily true though. Texas has fees on EVERYTHING. IF you have a security system..yearly fee from the county, work somewhere that has food, gotta get certified, it's a money grab. Seriously though there are fees on everything here, that's how they get around "taxing". Are the cities in Texas more affordable than say NYC, LA, SF and such? Yes and they should be. Property taxes are really ridiculous though, 5 figures a lot of the time. The worst part the property taxing kicks people out of homes they've had in their families for decades and rips communities apart. The traffic in other big cities is way worse than the traffic here in Austin. I know this video was before Covid was a pandemic but you could add, the governor doesn't care if you or your children die.

The BBQ is not what it cracked up to be. In sum, nothing appealing. We have horrendous traffic here but you guys are catching up fast. No income tax but high real property tax? One of the Austin's tourists traps is watching bats come out to feed. What do you think bats eat? You are wrong about vacations also. Of course I would come to TX for sight seeing. And no I don't recommend beaches if you have expectations of FL. But unlike CA beaches water temperature is actually enjoyable. What if you enjoy music scene? What if you are a Formula One fan? I've ben to Venice IT and San Antonio river walk. Both are tourist traps but I'll take SA for week day night out. I've spent majority of my life in sales and have traveled entirely too much, tell me which metropolitan area is not concrete and asphalt? I am from OH and I own homes in OH, FL and TX. Stimulus is raising the cost of everything, and I will be living on the streets, to avoid all the prices rising every month. Rents are over $1k for a cheap studio. Mexico is looking better everyday. We pay for trash, water, pest control, sewer, heating, hot water, and a fee every month, that goes up, plus the over priced rent. Moving would be the same or worst, and Mexico is close and cheaper. What the hell is this dude talking about? Texas has mountains. Look up west Texas and big bend national park. Over 300 miles of coast and undeveloped beaches. We have prairies, brush country, hill country, piney wood forest, swamps, coastal plains, a small Grand Canyon, deserts and a bunch of 25000+ acre lakes and clear spring water rivers and swimming holes. We do get some hot summers but half of the United States does also. It’s not exclusive to Texas. But we have very nice winters where most of the time it’s in the 50’s and 60’s in January and February. And I know nasty cold weather I’ve lived in Colorado and Missouri. See this videos and the negative comments are from city slickers who couldn’t start a camp fire with 5 gallons of gasoline and a box of matches. Texas is big so you actually have to do some driving. There are many states where you get 2 choices. Forested mountains and bone dry deserts. Texas is more diversified.

I am not wanting to come to TX for the outdoors. I want the jobs and places to socialize.. I dont wanna be a hermit like these other hipsters or juppies do. Because of them, l'd have to be one bi force because all the real people move out. Im triing to leave that now. I dont want it to follow me. Im a trans person, I wanna look good and get people who appreciate that sorta thing to be friends with, real people who see me 4 the nice beautiful person I am. I dont wanna have to become a hermit because of all these others coming in. So I am a transplant who has no desire to change a thing. I want Dallas at least for how it is or Id go to Austin. I dont want Austin life though. Im alreadi in a place like that, its expensive, ppl suck and so forth. People want to focus on the illegals BUT these are the real illegals. Thei're the pilgrims..

Moving back to alaska after spending 2 years here in Texas. The heat, plethora of big bugs, nothing but private land across the state which leads to lack of outdoor activities, how dogs are not valued, how you are expected to have the best clothes, houses and cars otherwise you are not valued as a person, and how racists a lot of the minority communities are towards white people are major reasons why I want to leave. Alaska is the complete opposite: beautiful weather, outdoor activities galore, dogs are a valued member of most households, the friendliest people on planet earth it seems no matter what background or state you come from, lack of big bugs, acceptance no matter what you wear or the car you drive and so much more!

Interesting to know. Thanks for your comment. I've always liked Alaska. What are good cities to be in Alaska?

@@salut6554 Anchorage or fairbanks if you like the traditional big city (but is still so much smaller than other cities in the u.s) North Pole, eagle river, wasilla, palmer, chugiak or peter's creek if you want a small town feel that isn't too far away from anchorage or fairbanks to fulfill your big city needs. If you want to be more secluded Kenai, Seward and Homer are great choices.

Can you give me your take why you think dogs are not valued in Texas besides triple digit temperatures don't sound like a good fit for a dog?

@Korpian Sorry but ALL of your dogs would LOSE against my one dog. I got a 95 pound GSD built like a wolf and strong as a grizzley. Spoiler Alert: She's NEVER lost. EVERYBODY stays back from her. Guaranteed social distancing. Advice: You should pick your battles better

Yes, big cities in Texas have terrible traffic, however, I think it has more to do with the TXDOT being slower than molasses on a cold winter day at completing construction jobs. Even CalTrans (shockingly) is faster at completing construction projects. Texas is also the only state that does exit ramps and on-ramps the way TX does them... It's insane. A major negative is the annually climbing TX property taxes. I'm also not a fan of the bugs (giant cockroaches are a huge negative) you have, in the more humid areas. Not at all a fan of toll roads, either (not just in TX, but anywhere they exist).

Texas has Big Bend National Park, Malaquite Campground, Palo Duro Canyon, and beautiful swamps. If talking about only the areas around the Texas Urban Triangle then sure, there isn't much in the way of scenery other than the Hill Country.

Hey Ricky! Dallas has Summer temperatures that start in late May and lasts until early September. In the hottest parts of that time its around 105 and dips around 90 at night. The balance to that is that this January has been in the 60s during the day and super nice and sunny.

It can be, but understand Vegas has very dry air while Dallas has very humid air. So 90 - 95 in Dallas will feel like 105 - 110 in Vegas and with A LOT of sweat.

Ricky Rozay no, it’s not hotter than Vegas. I used to live there although I’m originally from Texas (recently moved back to TX). It can just get really humid here. The nice rainstorms make up for that though

If Central Texas is you destination, allergies are a big issue! And to primary reason not to move to Texas, if you want to bring liberal ideas with you. In that case we don’t want you here! We already have our pink spot and don’t need to add to that.
