I was born in Fort Worth in 1949 and I remember the weather was totally different than it is today. I remember walking to school in the first week of September in the first grade, it was a block and half away, I actually had to wear a semi-heavy coat to school because it was so cold that there was frost on the ground. By the time I walked home it had warmed up to a comfortable temperature. There were four seasons back then and basically it got really cold and stayed cold until mid -May! It usually snowed two or three times every year until around the mid 80s. And the snow would be on the ground for an average of a week or so. It also was pretty common for the temperatures to get below freezing sometimes for two to three months at a time, with no break. I remember in the early 80s it got below 10 degrees below zero for couple of weeks and most of the water pipes in Fort Worth froze and broke, it got a lot colder than the pipes were designed for. I remember having to go to the May Fest in Fort Worth the first weekend of May having to wear a coat as late as 1980 or so. Now the summers were totally different too. It was a dry heat, hardly no homes had air conditioning, I actually went from 1st grade to the 12th grade with no air conditioning in the schools at all, and it really wasn't that bad. Not one of the schools in Fort Worth had air conditioning. Most cars folks bought back then didn't have air conditioning, really didn't need it! It got hot for sure but the heat like it is today, didn't exist! Folks didn't die in their homes from the lack of air conditioning, it wasn't hot enough. That's how much the climate in Fort Worth has changed in my life time.

@sherry hodges Were you asleep during the 89 SF earthquake or the Northridge earthquake in 94? The tornado you were talking about that hit FW killed 2 people. Tornados cut paths earthquakes affect miles and miles of people and property. There are no comparisons between the 2. Through in Wildfires, droughts and mudslides and it is clear which state deals with more natural disasters. It’s not even close. Also, the hail storm you are talking about was in 95 and no people died from the hail. 13 people were killed by floodwaters so quit just throwing out random numbers.

Where I live in Fort Worth is the area where the tornadoes come when they are getting together or whatever and then they Bop on over to Arlington and Jack with them. One actually came by my office and it didn't even break out the front window. I was mad because I didn't get to see it! I moved to Arlington in 1982 and still live there. I worked 20+ years in Ft Worth, primarily on the westside so I know what goes on in FtW. Everything mentioned here is pretty accurate. The summer heat never bothered me or other coworkers as we worked outdoors the majority of the day all year round. Summer is much better than winter. I don't see the heat bother too many with the exception of chubby women with a ton of make up on. Tornados? No big deal. The storms all seem to spring up out of the ground in Erath County and head east. We are at the beginning of the storms which intensify as they head NE and out of state. No state income tax, no county tax or city taken from your paycheck is a plus. The only thing you might have mentioned is the Main St Arts Festival, which is one of the top rated ones in the US. Huge deal to kick off summer in April every year.

I would also list nature as a pro. I have hiked in many nature preserves and state parks in North Texas. The Fort Worth Nature Center and Eagle Mountain Park (both in North Fort Worth) are among the best nature preserves I have experienced in DFW. Cleburne State Park, Dinosaur Valley State Park, and Lake Mineral Wells State Park feature better and in some cases more challenging hiking trails than North Texas state parks that are closer to Dallas. DFW has a reputation for being flat, but the Cedar Hill area, North Fort Worth, and several communities within an hour west or south of downtown Fort Worth have plenty of hills in settings that aren't overly developed or noisy.

Yes we have American Airlines witch is closer to the airport away from the central city. And Lockheed Martin. That is pretty much it ! Downtown Dallas into Collin county like Frisco, Plano, is where the jobs are for college educated people. In fact three years ago Fort Worth realized is was falling behind in the white collar job base. But nothing really became of it. I love my city. And we have invested in S.T.E.M. education in FWISD . And Fort Worth kids are also in Keller ISD. And Crowley ISD. They are wonderful school districts. And TCU and Texas Wesleyan are four year school inside the city limits for a hundred years. And and new and fast growing Tarleton University in Fort Worth that is helping Hispanic kids get a college education. But Fort Worth simply cannot get fortune 500 companies to come to Fort Worth ? So unless you want to Drive from Fort Worth to Dallas and Frisco for those kind of jobs. Fort Worth is not the place for you . I'm sad to say. I have been trying to get our city leaders to change that. But they are inept in bringing high paying jobs for young college students. This list of fortune 500 companies in the DFW area is a little out of date. But is clearly shows how lopsided white collar jobs are located ! www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjm2aeMkdXuAhV0FTQIHQfkAIEQFjACegQIBhAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FList_of_companies_in_the_Dallas%25E2%2580%2593Fort_Worth_metroplex&usg=AOvVaw3j128vHrI17PUhF9nNKCsY

Californicators are invading the whole metro mess which means more problems. The schools are totally mismanaged and just raised school taxes another 25%! He mentioned the heat. I've traveled all across America from Oregon to New York to Florida to California and I've got to say...I legitimately hate how Fort Worth is being ran.Its like the shot callers could give a damn about mid class lifestyle. If you don't have a car you're screwed, they don't allow you to swim in the lake,I live in a townhome near Las Vegas Trail and our pool STILL isn't open...mind you it's been over 100° the last few WEEKS...I'm used to open lakes and lush forest, walking distance activities, parks with shade because they take care of the landscape, and public transportation that actually is dependable....call me spoiled but like I said everywhere I've been in America you can actually benefit from the tax dollars that are taken.Yoy can actually make a living for yourself. This is one of those places you either already have friends and family established ...or you have the money to live as you please....either way this large city is missing some MAJOR upgrades and to the livelihood of it's people not only organically..... realistically.Move here because you don't like where you are and nothing more with a car and you MIGHT be happy with the cost of living....don't expect no more from this place until they take care of the people's mental sense of substance. And f.y.i west fort worth is by a Naval base so get used to have the sound barrier broken above your home 🤦🏽♂️

I'm from Wisconsin, I've been in Fort Worth, almost 5 years. I would have said, I loved it two weeks ago, but Texas has problems with violating federal employment laws, a good ole boy system and free standing ER's that rip you off. Not a lot of racism and people of all 'races.' Social services, are all linked and connected. I was working in this industry. Be prepared for deregulated energy! Some companies are really shady. There are jobs, but move to a city based on what industry you work in. Dallas is banking/finance, etc. Fort Worth is healthcare, teaching, Airport, etc. Hope this helps!

The economy is good but it is not keeping up with the cost of renting or home ownership. Be prepared to have a struggle finding a place to rent or purchase right off the bat that is reasonable. Whatever you want to pay for rent add 500 dollars and 100k to whatever home you want to purchase. Living in Texas is similar to living in California in the early 80s. The crime rate has gotten worse in my opinion. They are just getting more creative in how they report it. Entertainment is top notch and you have a large variety of restaurants. It is no longer the city that feels like a small town anymore.
