The GT is SO aimed at the older guys and I appreciate Subaru for offering this trim. The closer you are to 50, the more you remember the missed rev matchs on a downshift that nearly gave you and the passenger whiplash…the long, bone jarring road trips that were fun as hell in the STi, but required a days physical recovery when you got where you were going…let’s not forget how loud the STi was and how you couldn’t take your kid to get ice cream without some douche canoe in a Camaro wanting to race…all these things were tolerable in your 30’s, but once the kid goes to college and you want a car the wife can drive and won’t kill you on a road trip and won’t wake up the neighbors at 5 in the morning and will actually be fun to drive for a crippled up old Subaru fan, I’d say this is the rig for me. My orange one will be here in a couple months.

LOL - I resemble that remark. Though this is my first WRX. I lucked out, and found a GT in the color I wanted, last month. The car is great fun. A very nice change from my 99 Mustang GT. I'm still in the break in period. Got a few hundred more miles to go, then I can go over 4K revs.

@@cav1991 yes, very. I originally put in an order in late March for it at one of the dealers in my area. The odd thing was they didn't have me sign anything. Nor put any money down. But had a +$2K mark up. Wanted it in Silica black, with a lug lock nuts, floor mats, and cargo mat. Initially June was the ETA. Then it got moved up to May. Then moved back to July. I would randomly check the various dealerships online around my area in southern California. Around early May I started noticing GT randomly coming in stock. It was only a handful. Usually in some color other than black. Then I learned I could use the JD Power website to search. That was very helpful. Though it wouldn't always list everything. A week later I found one (Black) coming into Long Beach. But it has a +$5K mark up. A week after that, I found another one, with no mark up. Though it did have 2 add ons (door ding protection 3M, and ceramic paint warranty) for +$900. It was still -$1,300 less that the place I ordered it from. That was supposed to arrive in July. But this was available now. We made a B line to that dealer and got it. So yeah, lucky to have it work out like that. But it was quite a bit of leg work to be ready for it. :)

No price markup, I’ve been having repeatedly business with my local Subaru dealer and I’ve even referee people there. They acknowledge that and are giving me a good deal I’m their trade up program. Im happy. 🤙🏽

It changed my mind when I saw one in person. The aftermarket has already addressed the wheel well issue with painting or wrapping in matching body color. Huge improvement.

I got mine. It drives a LOT better, more planted and a lot less turbo lag - but its there.

I did not get this model. Got a 6spd base model. Couldn’t give up the manual but I imagine this being so good for subie guys who are older or who have teenage kids!! One day when I’m old!

I been considering buying this car for about a month now, I love it!! Be using it for a daily driver no mods or off road ever, I just hear lots of negativity on cvt reliability.. will it be reliable like my 09 Honda accord?

It has the SPT Subaru performance transmission not the CVT no problems with my SPT

I'm a lucky one - I live 7 miles from my dealer, who provides a LIFETIME warranty on the drivetrain. And than includes avrything out to the wheel bearings, as we found on our Crosstrek. (Some only go to the diffs, CV's.)

I go back to when Mitsubishi offered the Evo MR with a dual-clutch and there was constant talk that Subaru woukd offer it, but never did. They're better than manuals. Period. Both hands on the wheel? That's a "disadvantage"? I just sold my 600hp STI 48 hours ago, and if turning onto a fast road to beat oncoming traffic, the power could be overwhelming with just one hand on the wheel. "Not a real man!" Sure. I've watched many experienced drivers "fight" with their usually weaker L hand/arm against understeer and torque steer. Still not convinced...why did every high level race series go paddle shift hundred years ago? Still not convinced...every mag review for the past decade in which high level sports cars are tested concludes "much as we hate to admit it, the age of the manual has sunset" admitting both hands on the wheel banging out fast shifts up/down is faster, and even more so as the manual becones fatiguing. I also have a left knee problem (torn ligament, can live with, but it's sore frequently) and some arthritis in my extremities. I had to drive my STI 10 miles to meet the buyer at his bank, and as I parked, I'm not sure I had another shift left in me. With all the jocks out there with knee problems and right arm/shoulder injuries, as well as spouses who refuse to be restricted to one car they can drive, and all the suburban-to-urban commuters, it's not surprising manuals are disappearing. But it's not like Subaru or anyone else is putting 1960's 3 speed autos with squishy torque converters in. Yet listening to the whining you'd think that's exactly what is being done. (Last I checked, my kid isn't rowing gears as he plays Forza on his X-Box...pretty sure he's got paddles.)

If you want to go and tap paddles while driving that's fine, but for us who want to row our own gears, let us row our own gears. You don't have to justify your decision the way you did, you don't have to bring up fights or what's manly or what's not. End of the day we just want to have fun in our cars.

WRX purchasers overwhelmingly prefer manual. Subaru would rather not put in all that r&d for the minority. Civic Si do not even offer auto. I don't think wrx should either. All the focus should be on perfecting the transmission their customers actually want.

When you are 10 minutes ahead of a snowplow on the Million Dollar Highway in January and the snow is coming in blindingly fast, does it matter? I’ll take the Subaru in that circumstance over just about anything else on the road.

Elantra N is the fastest. That being said, i live in Northern Canada and the Elantra N wouldnt be able to get out of my driveway in the winter. As soon as you get into sharp turns and offroad/snow/dirt the WRX beats the N.

I don’t remember the exact numbers, but only a few 1/10 slower on paper than my stock 2015 STi.

@@8JFJK8 Civic has a higher quality interior and better reliability, and it's not a "maybe", but definitely has significantly better fuel mileage. Having said that, I ordered a '22 wrx as it was the best choice for the climate I live in.

This car should be equipped with double clutch transmission not that crappy CVT. Also GT trim without manual transmission is a shot to the knee for Subaru.

on paper starting MSRP is similar, but with necessary packages like heated seats you are looking at $47-48K. WRX GT comes loaded at same price. You would want F Sport
