Great advice! While I had fun doing Pandemonium savage (my first time ever doing that in FF14) with friends, the stress and time commitments did tire me out. And I’ve done call-outs for Hyd EX as the healer. That…was rough, especially when a lot of folks are still learning the fight and you have to cycle around keeping folks up, i go full auto mode meaning i forget to tell folks the mechanics and…now it’s not just the BRD that’s dead. It is great and fantastic! The feeling of accomplishment when *as a team*, you take down the boss. It’s extremely fulfilling and exciting. Thanks again Stefan!

Excellent guide! Some background: I raided hardcore in WoW for several years, starting with ICC, Ulduar, all the way through to MoP. Now, I'm 65, I don't have the reflexes or frankly, the mental capacity anymore for learning 10-12 current strats within a couple of weeks. I figure I've done my time at the sharp end. Thankfully, FFXIV has content for EVERY level and discipline of player. My real favourite thing is the Alliance raids. I still die a lot, forget mechanics and make stupid mistakes that annoy me, but as long as I'm not actually terrible, no one really cares. I get to see quite a few funny rez messages as well. Savage, Ultimates and even current Extremes require the patience and discipline to put in the hours to progress. No shade if you can't, or don't want to. Me, I'm so happy with the story and the community that it helps me relax after a hard days work. Honestly, this is the best game I've ever played.
@mewtje30952 жыл бұрын
None of these were harsh imo, theyre pretty solid advice and very, very honest. Savage is quite a time commitment. Not only are you raiding to progress, but youre also in need to schedule reclears, homework time, and communicate with your static members openly about what you need and where improvements need to be made. So, with this in mind, if youre having static time twice a week, that is easily 4-6h of time you need to plan in every week for this content.
@bismarck25372 жыл бұрын
This is why I usually never complete an entire tier. As I’ve gotten older I don’t have nearly as much time to commit to doing savage content. Progging can take a while in pf bc skill variation exists and every group is random. Playing with a static is too restrictive and I don’t want to feel like I’m going to work when I just want to have fun and get strong gear. I usually just clear the 1-2 of the fights and just chill until coins become available to bump up weekly vendor gear to get close to bis along with some extreme weapons.

I tried to do Savage ONCE in this game. Keep in mind this was the DAY they came out so i thought people wouldnt know all the mechanics. I even looked in the party finder for people who said new prog. So when i got in i asked ONE question about the strategy the entire group disbanded and kicked me? That was so rude and i never went back. This is the part of the community that nobody talks about, people are really rude and obnoxious. Even in extremes people are really cool but savage truly is something i think most NON hardcore people should stay away from.

I wish I could run Savage, but my main issue is the time commitment. I used to raid in WoW, and I'm sure it needs just the same amount of time. At least FF14 has normal mode for people who just want to see the story, and so I've settled for that. There's always the next expac to backtrack and try Savage content I skipped. I'd say damage rotation learning issues might also be a thing, but I play Dancer, so outside of a few set buttons, my DPS is reliant on RNGsus.
@k9tirion9272 жыл бұрын
The time commitment is a lot less, outside of the raiding itself where you have control in what static you chose or going through partyfinder (do not recommend lol) your character maintenance is a lot lower than in WoW (tomestone cap, that's it.), for me it even completely stopped and I only raid log since several weeks effectively taking 5-6 hours per week. Obviously set times for a static are still very restrictive and not possible for many people, I just wanted to say this because while I wasn't able to sustain more serious raiding in WoW it's not a problem for me in FF, thank god.

Very few people will go out of their way to teach randoms how to do a current tier savage fight. Savage is very reliant on team work; if one single person messes up at the wrong time, you wipe or die to enrage. That is why you join a static, so you can prog the fights with a consistent team and learn with them. You can't expect someone to teach you; the closest you can get to that is a guide.

hmm. I would say there's a high up-front sink of time to get decent at raiding. With some experience, you'll start to group different mechanics that, although may be visually very different, require you to do similar or identical movements are actions, and sort of begin to streamline your learning so that you're able to consolidate large amounts of information into useful "cliff notes" that are easy to keep in your head. From then on, doing the fights a bit becomes a much shorter process of tweaking your understanding and execution of the fight so that you can kill it. As for your rotation- It starts to feel like a sort of dance with the fight. You have to sink the time in on a training dummy initially, then every now and again to keep it fresh, but eventually it works its way into muscle memory. You don't have to be absolutely perfect every time (although you'll want to be, and sometimes will which feels good), the most important thing is to minimize downtime. That means always be pressing something as often as you can given a fight's mechanics. Having this focus in mind, you'll start to associate parts of the fight with parts of your rotation which makes executing both actually easier, since they then become cues to one another. all of this is to say is that you can casually do savage content at a decent level with minimal time investment over the long run, but in the short run you do have to sink in a lot more time depending on how quick of a learner you are. It won't be forever, so you can still have plenty of time to keep up with many other things, but you should be aware that initially you do have to put in some productive hours. it still may not work out for some people, but I think it's important to point out that it's less of a long-term time commitment than what you're making it out to be. I raid 4 hours a week, that's for both progress and reclears, and I've cleared the whole tier pugging in party finder.

@@BunBossFFXIV While I agree with the general point you're trying to make, part of what you mentioned in the first point of the video feels immensely exaggerated and is more pointed which might alienate players from even bothering to try it. Like yeah, you need to understand your rotation but you do not need to be perfect, and the more a group can kill at least one boss per week it will get easier. My static isn't perfect players by any stretch but we still got P4S down in the first three weeks. A lot of what helped us was just gear helping us live things and having more wiggle room. If you were first weeking Hesperos, yeah it's a tight enrage. Now we can have deaths and be perfectly fine provided it's not during when they have a tether. People have a tendency to see that, and especially since you painted it to be much worse than it actually is and will just avoid it entirely seeing the barrier of entry much higher than it actually is. Eureka has this same problem, not many do it despite numerous nerfs to make it easier and more accessible. People still hear about how bad it was in Stormblood and don't bother thinking they need to be a super elite neckbeard to clear BA, they don't. Had you left it at like "you need to be a bit better on your job possibly but that's to be expected since it's higher difficulty content" then it would have been fine. Except you went in with "Every mistake will be analyzed, if you screw up your rotation you will hear about it." It's Savage, not Ultimate. Further on that, my group isn't perfect with raid buffs, we still clear weekly, no player is perfect, hell we still have someone go braindead on Erichtonios and wipe us once a week. You absolutely do not need to be a perfect player to do Savage which is what most people will infer from just your first minute of video. You also mention something regarding these things like perfect usage of CDs should be second nature before going into Savage. . . ehh I disagree and here's why. While it would be preferable, they're going to have to learn it anyway. Part of what really helped me get better on Reaper was doing Savage because it taught me how to be less strict on my timings and actually make informed decisions regarding the boss and work around these things. If my circle is perfectly timed on P2S, I'll waste half of it on the third circle when the boss goes into his limit cut charge mechanic where he's untargetable. Some of these things you actually do need to experience to learn, and while it can be a trial by fire, usually it serves as a good motivator for people to push their limits.

I disagree with how you phrased number 1. You make it sound like you have to be perfect with your rotation starting out, which you absolutely do not have to be. You have to be competent, yes, and know the basic rotation of your job, but a willingness to practice, learn, and improve will carry you through savage just fine. By the time you get to the last fight of your first tier you'll be a much better player than you were when you started.
@just_radical2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had an issue with how he said that one too. You could def clear the first couple fights of the tier with a "good enough" rotation and if the choice is between doing the mechanic properly and doing your rotation ALWAYS choose the mechanic even if it means missing several gcds or messing up a burst window. You only really need to worry about doing rotations perfectly if you're going to be reclearing week after week because either your static will get frustrated at your lack of willingness to improve or party finder people will start blacklisting your for griefing. But if you just want to beat the fight, do what you have to do to survive because imperfect dps is better than dead no dps or debuffed rezzed dps.

Definitely, it’s kinda cool being seen as very strong with savage gear, and doing way higher dps. However I don’t really see the point in completing savage tiers when you can just get coins during the following patch. It’s just not worth the time or effort. Sometimes I don’t even do my weekly reclears for ps1 and ps2, because I just don’t feel like it’s worth it. It’s even more discouraging if you haven’t been able to get coffers in weeks or maybe even over a month. I’m pretty sure you can get close to being 600 item level in 6.1 just from getting coins and getting the new trial weapons. At the end of the day no one cares if you’re item level is above 590 tbh. As someone who's done P1s and P2s so far, and is about to start P3s, I have a few things to say. I'm not trying to hate on this video or anything, I just have a few opposing opinions. 1. I know that you mention pf in a later part of the video but...When you were talking about statics in reason 2, you made made it sound like it was mandatory to have a static to even get started or touch savage. I'm just wanna say this: You DO NOT need a static to complete savage. In fact, ALL of my clears/reclears were through pf. The truth is either one works and they both have their pros and cons. Yes, pf can/will take a bit longer to complete. Yes every group is random, but that's not always a bad thing. But here's the thing...If you're not trying to clear the whole tier at week 1 of it's release, and want your Bis by week 8, then again, you DO NOT need a static. If all you care about is getting the fights down whenever you feel like it or have the time for and those weekly tokens, then the best choice is pf. 2. You DO NOT need a high parse or top damage to complete savage. You should know your opener and rotation tho. To an extent, damage can matter but your parse does not mirror your skill of the job. I main SAM, which was top dmg (until 6.1 hit T.T rip Kaiten). I did my rotation, opener, Food buff, positionals, etc. In other words I play the job properly and most of the time will be top damage out of the 4 dps in the group but will STILL have a gray or green parse, while even sometimes the LOWEST dps in the group will have a blue or purple parse. I even seen Ultimate clear logs where top dps had a gray parse. It really does not matter, and about 90% of savage players DO NOT care about your parse. Idc about people's parse. No one in my groups talk about it. The ones that do care usually make separate pf groups specifically just for parsing. 3. Reason number 4. I mean, if you want to learn the fight blind, that's perfectly fine. But still, why WOULDN'T you look up guides for the fight? Savage is suppose to be the second hardest content in the game behind Ultimates. Because of that of course you're supposed to do "homework." Of course you need to prepare. And if that's too much for someone, then I don't mean to sound harsh, but that's a them problem. Wanna do hard content? Put the work in. And you don't even need to do all of the work either, even the bare minimum is better that nothing. This was never an issue for me as someone who raided heroics in wow. Again, I'm not trying to hate on this video, in fact, it does have some valid and reasonable points. And if you read this far, I'm not trying to force people into savage or disagree with this video. If you don't want to do savage, then that's perfectly fine too. It's your choice. I just made this comment for people who watched the video, but are still aren't sure if they want to do savage or not. Keep up with the good content ^-^

People really need to stop putting savages on some unreachable pedestal. For the first point knowing your rotation is something everyone should already know no matter what content you do. you do not need to be fully optimized to do savages thats just a parser thing. the majority of clears for savages are grey parses. second you do not need a static you can literally pf every single savage no problem and you do not need discord. you also do not need to do homework to clear anything a five minute youtube video to get a grasp is just enough. nobody really sits here and looks at there parses and shit like that in this context. the people watching this are people who are scared to do savages not people who are optimizing the fights already. The only thing you need discord for is a new ultimate everything else is pfable without discord This video is making the barrier of entry way harder than it needs to be and alot of the points are as if the people watching this are optimizing to parse. If youre optimizing to parse you arent gonna watch something like this cause youre not scared of savages.

I'm in the same boat. Heavy hauler, working most of the time. I can only play casually. My FC wants me to join their savage raids but I'm so far behind it's not even funny. I'm still trying to make the iLvl 610 crafted gear😄. Best ti can do is watch a KZbin video right before I join the raid because I got drive the next day.

I like a challenge but I'm not a masochist. It amazes me that people can sit through a trial after wiping 20 times and still give 100%. Kudos to them!

I would only do casual for savage, and i love callouts on voice chat BUT team needs to have some humour to keep it fun. But i HATE when ppl try to box me into a job role and thats not what the game is about. Like the jobs system isnt so diverse just for ppl to be boxed into certain roles. Thats when i quit and play other games cos i just wanna have fun (but i have mhw and elden ring as alts lol plus forbidden west)

FFXI killed any and all desire to do any endgame activities beyond story content. Between the devs doing their damndest to make mages’ lives miserable, tryhards littering the voice chat with every form of verbal abuse known to humankind, and gatekeepers consistently violating the no parser rules, I fail to see the benefits of making myself angry in my own home. The 47 KZbin channel has enough videos of people with anger issues without me joining the fray.

All these reasons are good but I feel like the biggest reason to not do savage is because it’s not worth it. I did my first raid tier in the beginning of endwalker and I cleared all the way to P3S. As I geared up I quickly realized that it just wasn’t worth the time invested. I completely lost motivation and didn’t even clear P4S. It takes way too long to clear the fights and gear up and the Ilvl increase is underwhelming. It also doesn’t help knowing next patch there’s going to be catch up gear anyway so I felt like I was wasting my time.
@CmonstahxD Жыл бұрын
P3s was the destroyer of statics, and arguably one of the most hated fights in endwalker . But p4s is soooo much more fun and rewarding I have never had so much fun in a fight in ff as that . I'm currently progging p8s but I just started and I'm working on ultimates so we will see if they live up to the hype.

What about high ping? I want to do extreme and savage but sometimes my ping goes way too high and i have to plan before mechanics happen in normal mode lol
@k9tirion9272 жыл бұрын
If it's a stable high ping you can search for a plugin called "alexander", it helps players with high ping to still do double weaves or single weaves in 1.5second gcds. If it's unstable ping you might not be able to properly play.

I decided I wanted to do savage in ew after not touching it since hw pf nightmares. I asked a handful of friends and had a group ready to go in mid February after we had been clearing 1 and 2 separately in pf. Just cleared p4s this past weekend. It’s a ride and completely different from everything else in ff. But I’ll glad I did it. We are… uhhh… looking at uwu next. Maybe!

for everyone saying they dont have time, just wait for guides to come out then pf em. i used to do it in pf when i had less time bc you dont have to commit to a schedule. even ultimates can be progged in pf.

@BernkastelWitch16 ай бұрын
I stopped doing it because I tried my absolute hardest to get clears but due to miscommunication with my FC, it caused drama and they refuse to help me in it now and I tried to do it in PF and it was a disaster. A combination of no one, not even my FC giving me a chance at all to even Savage and seeing toxicity from players made me go "Not worth it.". All of it killed my passion I had for raiding before I even cleared a tier. To me, if no one is giving me a chance to learn I may as well not do the content at all.

Have to agree in retrospect. I joined a guild with some of my friends to do Savage since I love 14. Had no idea what to expect since I’ve never done hardcore raiding before in an MMO. The content is weird… It feels so disconnected from the rest of the game. You go from the most casual MMO on the market to the most Hardcore. With just how hard it is, the time commitment, how much Gil it costs, I quit. There is obviously an audience for content like this, but selfishly I just don’t understand why it exists. 90% of the game is incredibly casual and Savage content just doesn’t seem to fit in with whole, it’s just weird. I’d advise any new players who are thinking of doing Savage to be careful before going in. Understand that to do well you have to have a love and fixation for raid mechanics and it has to become a proper hobby, unlike the drop in/out content that permeates the rest of the game.
@johnnyveng40142 жыл бұрын
It exists just for those people who get excited at insane challenges and have the coordination, dedication, and reflexes to back that up. Hardcore raiders are truly a different breed.

I don't do it cause I don't find it fun at all. Tried one out the other day with the FC and we must have wiped 15 - 20 times and they called it 'learning'. Yeah, maybe it is. I just find it to be repetitive, annoying, and boring.

@@BunBossFFXIV I know it sounds hard but it is a commitment you are making to 7 other people. Just like when you queue up for 4 person duties it’s a commitment to 3 other people. It takes some measure of selflessness to play well in group content. I’d say I’d even take a selfless player over a person who’s a pro at their job. At least I know that selfless player will want to learn and hang tight through wipes. I think you laid it out pretty well in your video. Great video!
