I already had switch to Linux, first it was Ubuntu (which is very good) then arch after a while, "I use arch btw" but the first time a switched to Linux i kinda regretted it because i was missing my old window programs like visual studio, but I couldn't switch back because i didn't realize this laptop had a bios password and i had no idea how to remove it at the time, but the longer i use it, the more i loved it, even in windows i was using the Linux stuff for programming and love it, If you on windows and you thinking of switching to Linux, i think it worth it if your a programmer and/or really wanna customize every part of your pc

May I know what IDE you use as a replacement for Visual Studio? Wanting to make the change but it's tough considering I use Premier Pro/Photoshop and Visual Studio 2022 all the time. Just kinda bummed out after realizing how many apps are not available in linux... Would've switched years ago if not for certain programs that require Windows lol

Also for you gamers: if you have a separate hard-drive or extra disk space to partition off, you can implement a dual booting option. I use this option when booting up my pc and choose between running windows for gaming and Linux for the rest. A bit of a learning curve to set up but well worth it.

Gaming works absolutely fine on Linux with Steam. If you have your games on Steam, there's no need whatsoever for dual boot. Een no-Steam games like WoW or Star Citizen run smoothly with Lutris. I play WoW, Star Citizen, Cyberpunk, Arma III, DayZ and a couple of other games with no issues.

Same, but most of my games now run faster on Linux than windows. (Unless a specific game is unsupported.). I have less and less reasons to boot into windows recently.

@@tomgier8548 I prefer Heroic Launcher to Lutris, but yeah, you're on point.

You sti need to tinker with proton, lutris, wine,it does not just work

@@roklaca3138 Most games run out of a box fine since the steam deck released. But you can tinker to make the experience better. Sometimes you have to wait for proton to be updated for very new games.

One Reason not to switch, maybe. You have decades of on going work using Windows Programs. However, that can easily be overcome with a sufficient computer using Oracle Box. I use Oracle Box to run Windows in Windows.

And for gamers, they can use SteamOS.

The substance of what you're saying is interesting, but what's the point of making a KZbin video if you're going to show virtually nothing visually as you talk?... like not even the bullet points of your presentation?!

Even to take the thumbnail and have that unblur as he covered the points. This feels more like a podcast

KZbin has far better audience reach than any sort of audio only content delivery methods. I personally don't think it matters all that much, plenty of people go to youtube to listen to podcasts and music on videos with no actual video at all.

@@Domebuddy What you say makes sense, but the thrust of my point (which maybe wasn't as clear as I wanted it to be) wasn't that he shouldn't make a video; it was that he *should* make a video on this topic, but that it should be a better, more engaging video.

i remain unconvinced. When I used linux in 2011 briefly, I did not feel much benefit in its use, and felt a ton of negatives in the form of program compatibility. I just don't have a reason to care about efficiency, when computers are so powerful in 2024. Linux remains a toy for tech enthusiasts and paranoid security minded individuals at best.

One feature alone makes Linux worthwhile for me: Even on Windogs-Installations for corporations, I have to update the system every second day or so. And it takes a long time every time. And often the system must be restarted. On Linux, a typical update that takes 5 minutes in Windogs at least, will take less than 10 seconds and no reboot is required for 99% even of system updates. I can run Linux boxes for months without need for restart. When you are fine that Redmond is spying on you and potentially using your data even against you. When you are fine, being the product and not the buyer of a product. Than fine. But than you bought A TOY OPERATING SYSTEM and others are toying with you!

So more than 10 years ago you tried Linux for a day then gave up. And since you work at Taco Bell, you do not care about security... No need to be paranoid about your IP or banking details. Good for you! Let Co-Pilot guide you to the "Microsoft Store" with every click you make.

I guess I'd ask someone who said this about 2011 Linux *and* Windows/ digital life, what changes they'd noticed in 13 years? Because back then, Windows 7 didn't send telemetry, iPhones and social media/ data harvesting were really new, and technically Linux was.... um, challenging. Moving to present day, how do you/we judge if we need to be concerned about say, a really basic level of privacy? Is it "normal" to give over all your data to others? I think that's okay if you want to. But does it feel okay that you have no choice about it?

Well with Windows you must 'tinker' with secret settings, such as "How to disable Cortana", or "How to disable Co-Pilot", or "How to prevent auto-uploading your files to the Microsoft Cloud"
