Building models for over 30 years never washed a spue. Never had problems. But it wouldnt hurt doing it.

Thats interesting, i build only for a few years now and already had 2-3 kits with visible residue on the sprues. You always picked the right kits maybe😁👌🏼 Thanks for the feedback!

I do not start the build with washing the sprues, I do all my prep first. Get rid of mold lines, fix imperfections, do all the file work, etc. When I am done prepping everything, then I wash the parts, and I use an aquarium fish net just incase i miss something in the solution or stop a part from disappearing down the drain. Then I use a microfiber towel to dry everything, from this point on I wear gloves to keep my natural sweat and oils from getting on the parts. I now go back and check all my corrections, etc, then I move to the primer and start putting color on the plastic. This is just the way I have done it for years, and years...LOL

Washing before construction is a waste of time. You're going to get skin oils on them as you handle them, plus lots of other dust and junk, and sand down lots of surface area anyway. Wait until just before painting to clean your parts, and then wear gloves from then on.

Yes, you are right, before painting/ priming i clean the exterior of the model once more to have clean surfaces. Thanks for the feedback!

I always wash my sprues before starting a new kit. Sometimes I will watch several kits at once, laying them out to dry, and then using a Post-It note with the word Washed! on it stuck to the instructions so I know the kit is clean. Just last evening, I washed and dried the new 1/24 scale Ford Model A kit from ICM - seven sprues!

I've been building 60+ years and still wash the sprues ! Nothing is more frustrating then having you paint fail, even a very small spot because of some mold release on the parts. A little warm water and dish soap is just part of building a kit.

I too am guilty of not washing before assembly. this could explain why kits i built many years ago are just falling apart at the glued areas. I thought it was the glues fault.

If you consider where some kits are made I would do it for hygiene reasons. I noticed the majority of some types of people never wash hands after going to the toilet.

I'm terrible. as a painter by trade I've had it drilled into me the value of good preparation for painting, (cleaning, sanding etc.) do I actually clean any kits before I build them? erm..... no, however in my defence after a kit is built and filled then sanded, then maybe a little more filling and sanding I will make sure the exterior is fully cleaned over before I paint, its a sort of halfway house approach. also I've never had any problems on kits with paint, due to them not being fully washed. that said, I think I will start giving kits a full wash like in your video, as its definitely a good practice!

Yes cleaning the exterior after all the glueing and sanding is also important and does the job. Also to get rid of any potential finger prints on the plastic Thanks for the feedback!

Use to wash the sprue but stopped doing it once I open the bags to let air dry.once I start a project I sand edges and parts also scrape before gluing.i use enemals paints which adhere better then latex or acrylics.soon I will have to go to these other paints due to getting harder to get good enemas in color that I need...

@@chrisveya7556 understand that part but are hard to get here in the states.revell and humborl are sold here.revell are good but the humbrol not to impressed with there new formula. We do have mcw paints and will have to try them,hear they are good and use the model masters formula.i miss my model master paints.

Subbed because people got triggered over your "over weathering"vlog, never washed sprues ever,i use ISO Spray on the kit and wipe it down before spraying though,to get get rid of the acids,salt and oils off it.

When I was younger i did not wash, because I had no idea about technological process of producing sprues. In ma imagination sprues were made in sterilised circumstances , something like in dispensary or nuclear laboratory.😅 Now, when I know more things about technology - I do wash 😊

Washing is a necessary job. It is vital. I painted a lot of 1/72 figures, without detergent first, painting was useless. If you dont rinse then of course there my be issues later. I can not start a kit unless it is washed in dertergent first. Not everyone agrees, but that is life, yes?

I think it's a little risky - so many small parts can be so easily broken by scrubbing the sprues. I sometimes give the parts a gentle wipe down with isopropyl alcohol and a soft paper towel - much less chance of breaking or losing parts.

Thats the reason why i do never wash anything in the sink. The iso alcohol is also very good to get rid of everything unwanted on the plastic. Thanks for the feedback!

I’ve always washed my minis before painting but not my sprus. Can’t believe I’ve not done this. I’ll change now. Washing the spru is way better than washing the completed kit.

Before i start painting or better said priming, i do also clean the entire exterior. After all the sanding. But i really started to enjoy washing the sprues as a first step. Thanks for the feedback!

Take a few minutes and wash those parts, or your paint may get the dreaded fisheyes. No need to wash the decals.

There are sound reasons to wash, but life is too short, you have increased risk of losing parts or of introducing minerals or chemicals in the washing process. I'll guarantee if I made 2 identical models and only washed one, no one could tell the difference with any kind of reliability. If it works for people then great, by all means wash but when the difference in the end results are undetectable is it worth it ??

To me, its worth it everytime! But of course, if everything goes fine, theres no difference in the finished model, youre right. But i also came across a few models which had visible residue of something nasty on the plastic. So to me its out of question 😄 Thanks for the feedback!
