This was a great review. Reviews are always much more impactful when you know the person is upfront about reviewing their personal experience with the game, rather than trying to reshape their experience to appeal to everyone. This game is in a very unique position as it can be very difficult and expensive for those who missed out on the Kickstarter. It was a good choice to include the part that you got the game and the expansions through the Kickstarter. Having an understanding that the game's cost is one of the biggest barriers to entry is a good point to highlight. I 100% agree with you about how people who are looking into getting the game should go in knowing that they need to play the game multiple times before forming an opinion. The first 10 or so sessions will be vastly different from the final 10. It is also good that you talked about the nemesis encounters acting as skill and gear checks. 90% of players will lose to each nemesis the first time they fight them. It is good that you mention that as some players might feel it is overly punishing. They represent hurdles that you learn to overcome as you improve at the game.

Hey thanks for the comment! I've enjoyed your coverage of KDM as well. It's such an amazing experience but it's also has a very specific and niche audience it's aiming at. I'll always gladly introduce anyone who is interested though!

For a completionism like me, seeing the base game that expensive and having to pay x10 more for all the expensions was what made me not to buy it. I was willing to pay for the base game but all the expensions made me fell that i would not have the full experience... so its a no go for me... sadly becouse i love what i saw.
@BoredOnlineBoardOffline3 жыл бұрын
Oh man if you’re a completionist then this game would be a rough one to fall in love with for sure! I hope you get a chance to at least play it sometime. I’m curious if you think the completionism would have even compelled you to purchase all the non gameplay minis. A lot of people don’t realize that Poots releases new non-gameplay minis almost monthly.

I have the base game, just getting started on it now. For me, I do want to play the expansions but like everyone else, I didnt originally back them. I'm not spending 2k dollars extra to play them. What I will do is load up Tabletop Simulator like a boss and enjoy the shit out of those expansions at no extra cost to myself. Check out Kingdom Death Monster MisterSlack mod.

Great review! Just finished watching it after having almost 100+ hours on gametime. About 1/2 of that time is solo, the other half on different campaign runs with different groups. I think the biggest point that stands out to me and I think every future player considering the game should note is that, yes it does require multiple plays to grasp. That hit nail on the head for me as I was always stuck trying to fight King's Man lol. Until I figured out shields and high survival with rawhide gear lol. It is most certainly frustrating to get curbed hard, especially with Nemesis monsters, and I feel depending on how bad it sets you back (either setting you up for cascading failure, or killing the campaign run), it might push away or turn off others from trying again or just trying the game. It's definitely a punishing game and the time/effort to commit to multiple plays before you get a real good grasp is no small number. Setbacks and starting from 0 is a crucial nature to the game. And don't forget set up/teardown! Note: I am not slamming KDM. I absolutely love it. I'm just saying I think it's normal to feel inadequate in the game when it comes to time invested because of it's nature.

Are you still playing? I'm interested in solo but unsure how good solo is. I tried the game with a friend and loved playing with him, but idk how often we can play.
@KoyoKun5 ай бұрын
@@zandydandy4642 Yes! I have a group that's fairly consistent. We've completed Lantern/Dragon King/Sunstalker campaigns over the years and we're slowly playing through Gambler's Chest. Even after years of playing, on and off, it's still a fun and amazing experience. The trouble with solo play is that as one person there's a lot more management involved. 4 survivors, the settlement, set up and tear down yourself, etc. That can be mitigated by using the Scribe app and having a dedicated game table/playing space for KDM. On the flip side, you can play it whenever you want and you can take your time in immersing yourself. I don't do much solo play these days as I keep the board game at my friend's house who has a large enough game room and even though a simulator is a great alternative, I ended up preferring the physical. Seeing my painted minis on the table is sooo cool. There's a real sense of grandeur when I plop down my painted Dragon King onto the board. I'd say if you wanna play solo. Try the Tabletop Simulator with the KDM mod (if it's still available) or the official Kingdom Death: Simulator. See whether it's to your liking or not. Hope this helps! Lantern guide you!

One of the games I've had the most fun with. Played through one whole campaign and got to Lantern Year 20 in the second. Need to get a group together and start another campaign.

The 1st reason you gave not to buy it is actually a good reason TO buy it. Since you can sell whatever you bought on eBay for MORE than you paid, it's not a gamble. You have made an investment.

The base game will give you a TON of content and plenty to explore for a long long time. The only things you'll need to buy will be a few tools to assemble the minis. These are what I recommend: - Tamiya Cement Glue: amzn.to/3U6OpBg - Model Nippers amzn.to/3YitPjF - Needle Files amzn.to/4h2rnoG Hope that helps!

I don’t as of yet. I know there’s a lot of partial information out there and a lot of speculation. But since Poots has a way of completely reworking things without prior notice I haven’t spent a lot of time looking into it yet. Very excited to see the final product when it shows up this year (hopefully!).

I always wanted to get this I was so close to getting it but I cancelled my order after it was delayed many times (many many months) ended up backing Aeon Trespass Odyssey instead. But the look and feel of this game is sooo damn cool, a channel I watch does regular uploads of gameplay it's so damn cool 🙂 but glad I went with ATO as well more story and easier to get people into it that way. Still enjoy KDM so cool turns out I commented on this video nearly 3 years ago now lol but yeah i had to cancel ny order but i actually have tons of their models including stuff oike thr Lion mini experience game add on they had. As well as all of the pinup boxes I think all of them, as well as the some of the echos. I just like the models. But il get the whole game one day for sure 😁
