Excellent tips! I think I've made almost all of the mistakes you mentioned this year... :) Moved it to a sunnier spot, re-potted it, and many more MISTAKES, ha. No wonder it didn't bloom this year. Thanks, great video!

Hi, I moved my Turncata (thanks giving cacti) to my south east to get the morning sun. I live on the north shore of Lake Superior where the seasons are short to and my indoor plants are important. thanks for the video.

Hello, I purchased a Thanksgiving Cactus to gift to a friend for Christmas. The beautiful blooms are all spent but there are many little buds. After watching your video I am not sure if I should still give it to her or wait another year. I would appreciate your option. Thank you. Kathy

Hello . Mine hasn't bloomed in years. I've changed different places. For the longest time it was on my desk at work in direct light only. Now it's by a window and still no blooms. There are a lot of branches in the pot, could it be that it's too crowded? Thanks Louise

After looking at mine, I think it’s a combo pot of Christmas and Thanksgiving. I just repotted it with cactus soil because parts were getting mushy on me. I did probably put it in too large of a pot… Will it flower for me still this year do you think? I’m going to move it to a drafty western window. It was in a South facing window.

Well this explains everything. Mine hasn’t bloomed for years (after a house move) and I’ve been doing basically everything wrong 😳.

What soil do you use for your Christmas cactus?

Thanks for all the Information. Your cactus looks gorgeous. I wanted to ask how often and how much should I water my plant which is about the same size as yours. I have kept it in my garage which gets pretty cold and dark too but no blooms yet. TIA

I only water mine once a week with 1/4 to 1/3 cup water if it feels really dry. If there's moisture in the soil, don't water it.

Hello! Could you determine why mine are dropping all their buds? I have 3 in 3 different locations in my house and they produce small buds that dry out and fall off. None are in a window and my house is on the cooler side, I have been mindful ( most of the time) about not over or under watering. I bought the plants in fall of 2021. I haven't moved theor locations in the house since then. I'm in zone 3. I haven't fertilized. Thanks! Love your videos! Looking forward to summer 2022!

It probably doesn't need fertilizer, but it might not be cold enough. I find that the buds I get in March/April always seem to drop off because (I'm assuming) it's too warm or maybe too many daylight hours.

It's December 3rd, should I be seeing buds? I think I have a Thanksgiving cactus and not a Christmas cactus tho.

my thanksgiving cactus created his first blooms after like 8 years when i got it.. from nowhere in february.. so i am watchin this to know for next season, i quess having it near radiator wasnt bright idea:D, from reading i also noticed that some people say that it needs longer nights, and even artificial light tend to stop it from blooming, any idea?
@ShiftingRoots3 жыл бұрын
It all depends where you live. I live far north enough that i don't need to add artificial light. Basically, anyone I know who has a Christmas Cactus that doesn't bloom in real life is because they keep it somewhere warm, or not up against a window. If it's in the middle of a room it won't be happy.

My Christmas cactus is right now in my store room with no light not even a window,, once it starts to bud i will reintroduce it to normal lighting conditions and normal watering, am I doing something rong or is what I am doing good ? Just want to know as I have never got my “Christmascactus” (actually a thanksgiving cactus) to boom other then the year we got it. I also am from Saskatchewan only 2 hours from your city.
@juliaz19652 жыл бұрын
They're not meant to be kept in darkness 24 hours a day. If you were trying to "force" it to bloom, you'd alternate 12 hour periods of light and darkness.

That's actually a Christmas cactus. Thanksgiving cactus is a lot more pointy edged. Yours is the in between Easter and Thanksgiving.

Thanks for clarifying the differences between the Thanksgiving and Christmas cactus but I really would wish you not use the term Christmas cactus when it's a Thanksgiving cactus. The reason 90% of the population calls it that is because people like yourself are terming it as Christmas cactus.
