Unfortunately there's no real collectors value or fun alternate formats that are recognized until more recently (Time Wizard Format.). There's a LOT of fun stuff to be had, but all to often even at the local level it's just the top 2-5 decks over and over. Hopefully the results we're seeing where the meta is more open continue and people become more free to experiment and have fun!
@sirgarde229315 күн бұрын
@@cannonballkuriboh There's some incredibly good alternate formats where normally not powerful cards are strong and get to be interesting and unique. But they're all super niche because there's nothing close to an actual officially supported (and I mean real support like MD integration with bo3 tournament modes, locals and regionals actually running them with konami support and prizing, livestream/video coverage). Except like maybe CC, that's the only one that's gotten any real spotlight (but konami also refuses to create a CC banlist and just use the *standard banlist* for it so that one is still massively hamstrung). Some good alternate formats that don't get enough attention include. Master Duel NR Format MBT's Rotation Format (before it got completely abandonded due to lack of interest). A number of true limited formats like Progression, Playoffs, Master Saga, custom Cube formats. Trinity is weird but honestly quite cool even if I have some problems with it (the highlander aspect bothers me a lot personally but I understand why it's a thing). IMO the future of yugioh is in community run formats like these, but only if they can get enough attention to get off the ground.

As a new player especially, I hated playing The Negate Game, where the goal of interaction was to completely stop your opponent from making moves. I picked up on the fact that it was necessary, I learned that with modern decks they likely still had plays to make after the first two negates, but even then, it just doesn’t feel good. I don’t really want to stop other people’s plays. I want to be able to roll with the punches and live through the activation of their trap card, or at least see their favorite boss monster hit the field, so undercutting those actions felt bad. But evidently, players have grown so used to these cards that instantly win games if allowed to play out, that it hardly matters to them. I knew that better than anyone with my custom insect-plant deck with no archetype engine. My opponents would negate the most useless of effects, not because it really got them anything, but because they had been trained to shut down anything they didn’t understand. It was kind of frustrating, from my perspective, that the game had reached this level of power-scaling arms race to where nothing can be held back without fear of somehow losing the win. Where the ideal is to make all the moves before your opponent can, with the expectation that they want to win the same way. I actively refused to make better decks for a long time. After a year and a half of Master Duel, I finally gained enough interest in an actual archetype (Solfachord) to make plays with negates involved. I still don’t use hand traps and I still don’t have a super effective means of subduing the opponent, but the mechanic is built into my cards now which is new. We’ll see where deckbuilding continue to take me, I guess.

I'm glad you've found another deck you're enjoying, and if you wanna mess with the plant/insect idea more, look to Ragnaraika! As to the mindset of everything being negated, the removal of generic omninegates for the most part has helped a bit, but this game is very much defined under the mindset of "execute your own gameplan, deny your opponents". Usually short and sweet combos going through utopia double and that end on One of the Rays, depending on what utilities you need, 39: Utopia the original with attack negates, c39: Ray Victory which prevents spell and trap activation during the damage step and can negate the effect of a face up monsters for a turn, ultimate draconic ray which can equip a ZW from hand or deck any time it's targeted with an effect and can negate the the effects of face up effects equal to the number of zw equiped. The ZW monsters are a whole other beast, a lot of their purpose is to equip either to a Ray (usually a specific Ray) or to a utopia monster but each provides utility, tornado blade prevent the equipped monster from being targeted by effects, lightning blade prevent other ZW equip monsters from being destroyed, unicorn spear negates the effect of a monster being attacked, asura strike allows you to attack all monsters your opponent controls, Pegasus saber is an effect activation negate. There are several more ZW monsters but they each offer their own utility to the situation and don't need to run them at more than 1 of as they are searchable by cards like armed sage, zexal construct and dragonic ray with most being able to equip from hand without summoning first there are a few outliers like Pegasus and eagle claws that need to be summoned first but can be special summoned if your LP is 2k less that your opponents (or by dragonic ray's effect to just equip them from hand or deck). Haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh in a while. I loved using toon decks and Wind-Up decks the most. Toon decks have never been viable. You might eek out a win against someone who didn't know what they were doing if you managed to get a toon luster soldier on the field, but otherwise the decks weren't worth running. Especially considering the drawbacks of toonworld (wiping out all your monsters by taking out a single spell, as well as all toon monsters needing to wait a turn before they can attack. I know they can attack directly, but the fact you can't go on the offensive for an entire turn really sucks, especially if you happen to go second) wind-ups I believe were actually meta when XYZs were the new hotness, but I believe they've fallen out of fashion. I'm sure you can still fasten something together that might get you a win or two in a tournament, but I sincerely doubt you'd get very far with it.

How to lose your friends at locals 101. I guess that’s depending on the landscape at your locals. I used to go to a local game store for the YuGiOh club thing, and me, and some other kids, were anime fans, so we made fun decks of our favourite archetypes. They weren’t 1-to-1 anime decks. Just like I said. Archetypes that featured there. But whether it were a tournament or casuals, there were always a bunch of people playing with OTK decks and stuff. Here I was with a CyberDark or a Gate Guardian deck, and some one walks into the “casuals” with either Madolche OTK, or an Applousa turbo deck that uses a Lyrulisc engine. The HOTU tournament (Heart of the Underdog) that had its on archetype banlist, eventually got scrapped because there were too many meta sheep at this small town game store. good presentation but an overuse of reddit/facebook as fuck memes that dissociate from the tone of your message. while your editing does stay on topic its far more engaging if you don't oversaturate with humor while making points

I really hate that necessity to use almost 20 hand traps to play competitive nowadays. Why not put a limitation to one copy each and reduce the power of tier 0-1-2 decks? I know they need to sell new cards and archtypes but let's made this game bearable.
@cannonballkuriboh13 күн бұрын
Funnily enough, I'm rocking Math Lab right now at tournaments, and it runs all of 3 handtraps (Impulse). There are some good fun decks that can use lower handtrap counts, but you have to be willing to go into boardbreakers in that case!

its because you dont copy from master duel meta, that you can also modify it a bit anyway if you hate copy-pasting (its because it have the most powerful combo and plays, this is not duel monsters with salad deck wake up!)

If your deck require another engine to work it's trash, your deck can be self sufficient to run 20 extra handtraps
@cannonballkuriboh13 күн бұрын
@@parkouremaster some decks can, but what about Fiendsmith? Horus? These aren’t trash, but aren’t necessarily enough to stand on their own as a deck.

Magic maybe better but at least I can play Yu-Gi-Oh in paper. Ever since Commander came in and raped the game and made it essentially impossible to play anything else.
