Thanks for this will definitely take these points and keep them in mind, I also started doing what you said in one of your previous videos and started watching more oscar nominated films with oscar-nominated performances.A couple of the ones I looked at are some of my favorite films like American Hustle, and Django, Jamie Foxx, and Bale are two of my favorite actors.

But can I ask you 2 questions? 1.) Wouldn't it be easier if you just didn't audition for the role you know doesn't fit your typecast? 2.) The golden question which is relevant to all jobs and not just acting but how to get jobs if you've never had jobs (how to get credits with no credits) is the answer really student films?

To answer the first part of your question. You have to remember that when you get an audition, the casting director had to accept you to come in and audition for the part. We ultimately don’t know exactly what the casting director is actually looking for, but we had some quality about us that the casting director wanted to see in person. Sometimes we may assume that we are not right for the part, when we may have what they are looking for. Another reason going to the audition is important, is because you begin to create a rapport with you and the casting director. If they call you in multiple times (for different auditions) they begin to familiarize themselves with you and build a stronger trust. This trust is very beneficial when deciding to book you for a part. In terms of the second part of your question. No, you do not have to continually do student films in order to build credits. You can get credits in many different ways. 1. Student films (doesn’t require much credits) 2. Commercials (doesn’t require much credits) 3. Low budget films (doesn’t require much credits) 4. Sometimes certain theater (doesn’t require much credits) 👆🏼the types of projects I listed above both give you credits and are easy to book with little to no credits. Credits become very important when you’re auditioning for significant projects (movies/TV shows). For example Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Disney (for some teen/and many adult actors), etc. Those types of projects can easily turn you down if they don’t think you have enough experience. Again a casting director can take a leap of faith and hire someone to be apart of an expensive project, even though the actor may have little to no experience (which has happened before), but its not something the actor should always expect to happen. In simplest form, the bigger the role/project, the more credits casting may expect/want you to have, compared to a smaller role/project where there is more liberty to hire someone brand new or just starting out. Hope this helps!

Hilla Milov you would need at least 7-10 credits on your resume and maybe you could switch them up with higher budget short films and feature films or even target those that are "senior students @ at a film school/university "films" that will go to Sundance and what not. Also you could maybe get a demo reel together to be able to help bring you in to the audition room too so they could see your craft before the casting director determines wether or not they will let you in for an audition! This is based on my learning and experince, hope this helps! 😎

So the actor who has no credit at all but is a really great actor won’t get the opportunity to get booked vs the actor who has more credit but not as good the other actor?
@TheActorsAcademy
@TheActorsAcademy 4 жыл бұрын
In short, yes. The biggest reason is due to trust. If someone doesn’t have any substantial credits, it can sometimes be an uneasy situation for them to cast someone completely new to the ball park. It does happen where they will cast someone who has no credits, but it’s very difficult to get this done, because the casting director will not only have to convince the director of this decision, but also the producers. It’s far easier to sign someone who has some credits on their side, but by no means is it impossible if you have none. Think about it this way. The bigger the part, the more credits you will want (normally). The smaller the part, the less credits they will need.

It's not just down to trust it's mostly pull. At the end of the day everything comes down to money and the truth is names attract money. If you want someone to invest in your production use a name and not an unknown.

Let me ask you this then. I get loads of high interests when I apply to a casting call, but then zip. And this is for paid roles. But when it comes to collaboration projects, I get bombarded and my phone never stops ringing. I think that is not because we don't fit the character, but more likely they expect you to work for free. Acting is very hard, but as actors, we don't run a charity either and many Producers and Directors do take advantage of it.

I have a question I am Latina, I speak Spanish and I really want to become an actress... I have a problem with the part that they'll don't think that you'll fit in the character they put you to do, I have my skin brown, And I think that normally they are not trying to find people with that skin color... And the fact that I may not pronounce good all the words of the script... Do I still have chances to become a famous actor?

Lisselot Ovalles I think you still have a chance. But sadly, I think you’re right about the being brown in Hollywood part. There may be a Spanish speaking role who knows.

It could be 1 or 100, what matters is what the credits are for.
