I have a high top van and I use it to travel in for work throughout the year. I need to have a shower available with me, but kept purchasing ones that were too complicated. The best thing I have found is a collapsible basin. For the water, I actually use two of the refillable condiment bottles that you can buy at the dollar store. I just fill with hot water. With the two bottles it’s enough to wash my hair and take a quick bottle shower.

I carted a pop up shower tent around for two years and never used it once! It got donated to someone who hopefully will use it. Now I go through everything at the end of the camping season and get rid of anything I either didn't use or used rarely. Space is more important than a bunch of things, especially in a minivan.

In December 2023 I finished my goal of visiting all lower 48 states within five years with my Ram Promaster High Top . Just to give you my bona fides . I have yet to come across someone in a van that tells me they regretted NOT putting in a shower or getting an outside shower. Almost all the time the shower inside ends up being a storage space and a not very good one at that.. I found that between Planet Fitness and washing inside my van, I get as clean and comfortable as one can be. A little warm water in a small basin, washcloth , soap and the rest baby wipes.

Washcloth bath all the way. Six min to heat a bowl of water with an immersion coil. Dip one corner for each of the dirty parts, which is eight corners because you can flip it over. Then the middle for an all over wipe, or just another cloth if I got sweaty. Sun or line dry until bone dry, then into the laundry pile. One or two for each day. I don’t do hair, very dry scalp and not on the road more than four days, or if I was, there would probably be an Air bnb mixed in.

Another thing that seems to happen is people gifting things that they think you would like because you have a van home. I have used a shower tent, a large water sprayer, and several other things that were gifts, for "an appropriate amount of time" before passing them on - so that I don't hurt the feelings of the giver. You are correct - the simplest way is usually the best and most freedom-giving! I have that step, but I am short and need it to get in, but you are absolutely right that it is a pain to store. If I were full-time I would have to ditch it and hoist myself up! 😂

Just happened to randomly see this video. Electric power is something that we all need in a Van and the best way to avoid more storage is to have a rigid glass panel on top of the vehicle and a bank of LiFePO4 batteries with a simple inverter hidden under a bed or cabinet. Everything is out of sight. The prices have plummeted over time and the install is so easy for anyone to do. All you see is an outlet (both 110 V and USB). We use free electricity so we don't need your butane stove and charge phones, laptops, TV and can run a heated sleeping blanket and many devices.

I love my stair step but then I live in a vintage caravan so I have a lot more room! But after almost 5 years on the road I've definitely stopped accumulating "stuff" and every six months or so I do a big cleanout of all my cupboards and if something hasn't been used in the past 6 months, it goes. Another rule I have in my van is: If anything new comes in, something must go out! I also got sucked into buying a counter top water filter system but I have only a tiny counter so now I just use my Grayl water bottle filter. It's a bit labor intensive as it works like a coffee press, but for the space saving, it's perfect and it can filter water from ANY sources, like rivers or streams so is great for hiking. As for on-board showers, I do have the gravity bag but rarely use it. There's nothing like a good stock of baby wipes for those between campsite shower days!

Yikes, now I'm a little nervous. Thanks to all the great advice from certain VanLifers,, Ive accumulated my fair share of things for my maiden vanlife voyage. But then life happened and my plans are now sketchy at best. I'm not letting go of the dream, but lately I've been enjoying videos on simplifying life... then I look at my stockpile of stuff.😅😢

lol, it is really difficult not to stockpile stuff!

I don't have the van yet, but I don't think I've seen a perfect shower system yet.Usually hiking there is always a stream in the mountains.Great informative video.

Great information! I didn't follow people's advice in waiting to buy things as you need. I purchased several things before I hit the road and ended up giving them away. Such a waste of money 😢, but I've learned to seriously think about the purchases!

That is so common. Best thing is to learn from it and keep going☺️

Despite the small size of the van, it appears spacious thanks to your clever arrangement of the furniture. I am following you from Morocco❤

Without cheating I guessed - shower and had wondered where your burky hack ended up. My set up is constantly changing and I’ve had three different types of beds, each improving on the previous set up…

Woohoo! You should get some kind of prize. Yes, things are constantly changing.

You really need to see and understand what your need when you are in a van 😃

I never understood why people think they need a bathroom. It takes up so much space. Simplify people! A bucket, a basin, and you are ready to go. Also why do so many single travelers feel the need for a queen size bed? But hey you do you.

Yeah… I do think it is a learning process. Once you realize it, then you know it😝

Haha...that's so funny! I have copied so much from you, even the Jackery with solar panel 😮 but I have never purchased anything from a shower. Fortunately, I go to the gym often enough. But....now I'm truely a bit sour about that solar panel 😂😂😂

Yes, there are better ones out there for sure! If I get a larger batter station I will go for a different brand.

I have your second mentioned shower stuffed into one of my rear doors. It's been there for over 2 years now just getting dirtier. Probably need to toss it.
