All of this is perfectly sensible & understandable. People give out more information than they realise. I have a passionate curiosity for maps & geography and I’m a bit of a compulsive geolocator - nothing sinister, just a bit aspy, & I was frankly incredibly disturbed that I was able to find one creator’s home address with barely any effort. I found out waaay more than I was wanting to know - this young woman’s bedroom faces onto a street and she ought to be horrified that she’s inadvertently advertised which one it is. I’m a harmless middle aged woman in Australia, but if I can find people, anyone can. All this to say, yes, please be vigilant! Your safety always has to be your top priority. And whatever you do, NEVER show a screenshot of Google maps (etc) taken while you were at home if you have location enabled!! ❤❤ Take care Dee.

I’m often in my van for months and months, I never share my whereabouts on social media, I only share with my significant other, sister, and close nomad friends. Partly to keep my sticks and bricks home safe, and partly to keep myself safe 🤩. And yes, folks on the road do really look out for each other, it’s quite lovely! May I offer a suggestion for thought. When you acquire your next vehicle, don't publish videos or pics of the vehicle exterior. I'm a retired LEO and some persons tend to do surveillance on police lots to identify officers official unmarked or personal vehicles. After retirement I was an ATM tech and our company vehicles were not marked for similar reasons.

Seven years ago, a guy stalked me in a store and even by way of vehicle. Thank God I was able to shake him off, but I was so scared I didn't leave my apartment for three days. I moved back to where I was more familiar too. I'm so happy you were able to kinda sort that out but I know it must still be a bit debilitating. This made me go back to your video from a year ago entitled "Can I Keep Doing This?" The end with the tears and what you said makes me think that's when it started or you were struggling. I am so sorry you had to and maybe still have to deal with that. Be safe, and yes... we don't need to know "everything". I know when I get more videos and start traveling, I will be very careful with what I share. ❤

I can totally understand Dee where you’re coming from and I also under your need safety and protection. For about the last four years I have been wanting to get a box truck and build it out for both to living in and for work! I am a very people person but there are times when I need time for my self, I am a reader and a part time college student. I wish you the best and be safe. I understand everything you have told and for that I am happy that you do not tell. There are strange people on the world out there and I have a few in town where I live drive by slow often to see if I am out on my front porch, my favorite place besides the woods. I make sure to have my dog with me and he is over 100 pounds and a Great Pyrenees and would eat someone who came too close to me. I am a widow for the past 16 years and there are people who like to take advantage of that but they know I have a aggressive dog who will not allow them even on my front porch and my house is super safe as there are cameras everywhere. When I finally get on the road in my Suburu Outback it will be covered with cameras too and safety items. My health should be better by May or June to start my traveling. I will start only in Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee as there are so many wonderful places there to visit I have not been to since I was a child. Stay safe and be healthy and happy. I passed you on an Illinois hwy one time and just beeped beeped as I drove past. There are some very crazy people out there and I do not want to be a part of them either. Have a fantastic weekend!

You don’t owe anybody any explanation’s little lady. Always take your safety seriously. I believe like you, 99% of people are genuinely good people. But that still leaves 1% who are bad and 1% of our population is a lot of people. I’m a retired police officer, and also have a daughter. I’m sure your dad would’ve loved to have tracked the stalker down and relieved him of his stalking tendencies lol. If anybody ever tried to hurt my daughter, I’d have no problem smiling in my mugshot. Your channel has been one of my favorites since I started the vanlife dreaming and it’s because you’re real, and your videos are very informative. I saw you a while back on I-80 but I didn’t want to approach you because I didn’t want to make you feel uneasy or anything. You just talked about keeping some of your favorite places a secret, that’s a great idea because if you let everyone know, others might trash the place. There’s just people out there that ruin it for everyone. You just enjoy your travels and don’t worry about keeping your private life private. We’re here for the vanlife content and ideas. Sadly, the way humanity has gone, you absolutely always first and foremost keep your safety and well being first. Period. I always enjoy learning from your tips, hints and ideas. By the way, those pita veggie Sammie’s looked delicious 😃 A lot of other creators I’ve seen will give specific dates, locales and times of when and where. Then post about negative situations happening. One cannot be to careful anymore. I don’t blame you a bit on the big meets and greets, just not my wife and myself thing. We had tried, but didn’t enjoy the seemingly endless prying questions. So we just avoid those situations. For the folks that enjoy that atmosphere, go mingle and enjoy to hearts content. In my opinion your channel is tops. Even as a combat vet, I do it discretely and armed, and avoid walmart if possible. Lol. Literally every odd situation was at a Walmart… Drug addict yelling in my window at night, two hot pursuits right in the parking lot, one elderly woman randomly crashing into cars, one woman parked in middle of a parking lane screaming to herself for 45 min, a van life person with a huge parrot that learned how to scream like a little girl getting kidnapped, and the list goes on. Lol.

First time seeing your channel. Think I'll subscribe and check it out. I like the tip of "I don't tell you where I am". I'm just a camper, not a van lifer. I have one Park that I love to stay at often. Quiet, not many people. Not well known. I was talking to the Park Director about that one day. I mentioned that to her. She replied, "Don't tell anyone, so we can keep this peaceful place as our little secret place". I thought of that when you mentioned it. When people ask me where I go, I tell then, "Oh, it's just a little place in the Southern part of the State (Ohio)".

I can understand why you would avoid meetups and some other group events while you were addressing your stalker situation. I've watched quite a few videos of formal and informal meetups/group events, and it seems as though everyone is filming, including live streams. They were filming each other filming. 😏That could inadvertently expose one to risk. Stay safe and continue doing what feels comfortable to you.

And when I arrive somewhere and there are other people there, I always ask them to keep an eye on me, and if necessary, that I can ask them for help.And then I can share the place.Just like you, my family knows where I am, so I am never really alone.And I always follow my feelings.And I have a whistle within reach.You are lucky in the USA that there are so many beautiful places where you can go and free to stay or where it is beautifully landscaped you can enjoy.In Holland this is not allowed anymore to protect nature, because not everyone handled it carefully, it is now prohibited. Glad you are safe. How is the van holding up? I have a 2013 Ford Transit Connect. I travel a great deal. I do worry about the mechanics of the van when traveling. What do you do for provenance maintenance?

Thank you. It is a great little van. I do regular maintenance. I have a few trusted mechanics throughout different states. Repairs are also pretty reasonable and parts readily available! Mostly I have to watch my tires because I drive so much 😝

Thanks for creating this video. I didn’t think about some of the safety issues you brought up, especially vanlife gatherings. A woman youtuber I follow posts her videos weeks behind but she was in a lot of other people’s videos who posts days behind so we knew exactly where she was in real time. That’s scary. Someone said one of the problems with being on KZbin is people can gain the notoriety of a famous person but they don’t have the security of a famous person. That’s a real problem for KZbinrs, especially women KZbinrs, and something we all need to think about. Glad that situation has been handled and that you’re safe. Take care. ❤
