Answer to last riddle is really simple.. Both sisters could see each others ribbons.. In order to win the deal either one of their answer has to be right.. So they would have agreed that one sister will always say opposite colour of the ribbon she sees on her sister and other sister will say the exact same colour of the ribbon she sees on her sister... So if we see all 4 scenarios.Let say they agree that S1 will always say opposite of what she sees and S2 will always say same colour that she sees:- 1. S1 is having yellow S2 is having red S1 will say yellow (opposite of red) which is right answer S2 will say yellow which is wrong answer In this case S1 will get pearl necklace 2. S1 is having red S2 is having yellow S1 will say red (opposite of yellow) which is right answer S2 will say red which is wrong answer In this case also S1 is right and will get pearl necklace 3. S1 is having red S2 is having red S1 will say yellow(opposite of red) which is wrong S2 will say red which is right In this case S2 is right so she will get pearl necklace 4. I enjoy your answer, it removes chance and accounts for either of the two to go first. It produces a 100% chance of minor prize victory. However another strategy incorporates a garbage guess as an information vector. If the first one to speak states the color matching their partner then they have a 50/50 shot of being right, however since the second one just heard the color of their ribbon spoken they guess the same thing and are always right. This pushes the odds from 100% minor prize to 50/50 minor/grand

This is considering that they had enough free time to discuss the plan or if Elsa was smart enough. But she was smart enough to bring the Gerda so she's probably smart enough. Wow, riddle 2 is completely wrong. The first company is definitely better. As an accountant, it is baffling that company 2 would pay a full year’s portion for only half a year. The second payment would be $92,500. A salary is a yearly wage. The frequency of payment does not affect the amount paid. If I said I’ll give you $100 over the course of 100 days, and I’ll increase your pay $1 every day, on the fifth day, I would pay you $1.04. Because your 100 day wage increased to $104/100 days. I’m not going to pay you $5 on day five. Breaking the payments into days instead of 6 month periods really helps highlight the massive flaw in their math.

But, it can be paid out in whatever increments desired and still come out to the yearly salary. So when they say the salary increases $5,000 every six months, that means the total amount paid over a year increases by $5,000. HOWEVER, you would only be paid for the portion of the salary. In this case the portion is 6 months. They got the first 6 months correct. $180,000 / 2 (6 month payment sections) = $90,000 for the first 6 months. Now after that initial 6 months, you get a $5000 raise added to your salary. Your salary is now $185,000. For the second payment we do: $185,000 / 2 (6 month payment sections) = $92,500 The total for the year is now $182,500. This is because you only had a $5,000 raise for half the year. In this riddle, they paid $185,000 for the first year which means you actually had the $5,000 raise from the beginning. And that is incorrect.

Yes, the anwser to the 2. riddle is wrong. When the yearly sallery is increesed by 5,000. The half-year sallery is insceesed by 2,500, not 5,000. This means the 2. offer will give your: 90,000 / 92,500 95,000 / 97,500 100,000 / 102,500 577,500 compounded over 3 years, which is less than the 600,000 the 1. offer gave. The 2. offer is only better if you work beteen 7 and 14 months. Because you get your lower raiser quicker. About the last riddle...The only way that the sisters can ensure that Elsa will not marry the king is for one of them to lose and one to win, no matter what the combination of colors in their ribbons is. This can be done by agreeing beforehand that one of them will name the color of her own ribbon as the one that she sees in her sister (so if Elsa sees a red ribbon in Gerda`s hair she will answer "red") while the other will answer the opposite color of what she sees (so if Gerda sees red she will answer "gold"). If they do that, Elsa will have the right answer if their ribbons are the same, and Gerda will be right if their ribbons are different, covering all four possibilities. Of course by playing it safe, they will only win the necklace, but Elsa can marry a man her age.

...Everyone in this comments section is REALLY overthinking the final riddle. They're not allowed to give each other hints while eating dinner, but they talked it over after hearing the rules. All Gerda had to do is say, "just guess that your ribbon is whatever color mine is". Even if Elsa is wrong about her ribbon's color, Gerda knows for certain what color hers is, so they're at the very least a pearl necklace richer.

Jossua First of all, that doesn't make sense. 180k is more then enough to live comfortably on for a year. Secondly, I was thinking he would get paid 180k in total for the first year, he wouldn't get it all at once, it would come in a series of pay checks. And then every six months after the initial year he would earn an extra 5k. That was the way it was explained. Or at least that's what it sounded like to me. That's why the explanation was inadequate cause it lead me to believe that the 5k raise every six months and the initial 180k for the first year were individual of eachother. And if they were separate then the 20k raise a year job is by simple Math, much better. 5k every half a year = 10k a year which is half of what you'd get if you took the first job. But because of the order in which he got his 5k raise, the second job will earn you more money as explained in the video.

So here's what i've come up with 1st company. Year 1 = 180k Year 2 = 200k Year 3 = 220k Total of 600k 2nd company Year 1 = 180k (90k + 90k) Year 2 = 195k (95k +100k) Year 3 = 205k (105k + 110k) Total of 580. That's what i think.. Atleast. There's a better answer for #3 that doesn't require a total of 22 minutes of timekeeping as described in the video. As in the video you turn both hourglasses over but instead of turning the 11 minute hourglass over when the 7 minute hourglass ends, you simply turn over the 7 minute instead letting the 11 minute hourglass continue to grain down. When the 11 minute hourglass completes there will be four minutes of grain in the bottom of the 7 minute hourglass. So when the 11 minute hourglass completes you simply turn over the 7 minute hourglass which will run for the final 4 minutes of the 15 minute total. So that's 22 minutes of timekeeping in the video (because you have to wait 7 minutes before beginning to bake) vs. 15 minutes of timekeeping in my solution (no waiting.) Recap: Turn over both hourglasses. When the 7 minute hourglass complets, turn it back over. When the 11 minute hourglass complets turn the 7 minute hourglass over again. When that 7 minute hourglass complets it's been 15 minutes exactly.

When the 11 minute hourglass runs out there's three minutes of grain at the top of the 7 minute hourglass and four minutes of grain at the bottom of the hour glass. So at that time you turn over the 7 minute hourglass putting the four minutes of grain at the top of the hourglass and let it run down. It will take 4 minutes for that grain to run out. 11 + 4 = 15 minutes. You have to think outside the box a little.

Alternative answer for 3: put the cake in the oven; turn both hourglasses down; after seven minutes, turn down the 7-minute hourglass again; after the remaining four minutes of the 11-minute goes down, rotate the 7-minutes hourglass again to get another four minutes. 7 + 4 + 4 = 15 minutes and you don't spend extra 7 minutes before putting the cake in the oven.

Riddle 2 is totally wrong. How could someone make a video like this and not understand the basics of how pay rises work? If you get a 5000 pay rise every 6 months it's an increase in the annual pay not a 5000 increase in your 6 monthly salary because salaries are annualised. You would receive only effectively 2500 extra for the second part of the year as the salary is paid every cut off, i.e. if it's monthly it's 185000/12 after the 5k increase. Doh!

I was calculating it out based on monthly paychecks, and your Monthly pay goes up every 6 months, but raising your annual by $5k in July, when it's still paid out monthly means you've only earned $2,520 more by the end of the year. They don't just hand you $5,000 when you get a raise, they just increase your annual total, divide by 12, then pay it out monthly, 185k/12. If you take a $20k raise annually, you actually end up getting the whole $20,000, whereas with a $5k increase every 6 months you never actually even get the whole $5k within those 6 months.

I got the 4th question better than the actual answer because my way is way faster. Their answer would take 7+4+11= 22 minutes. Mine only takes 15 minutes because: 1. You put the cake into the oven and turn around both hourglasses 2. After the 7 minutes hourglass passed you know that the other hourglass still has 4 minutes left so you turn the 7 minutes hourglass again. 3. After the 11 minutes hourglass is done you have a total of 11 minutes and the 7 minutes hourglass has 3 minutes left. What a bummer. But wait! My answer would be this (so they don't win the big prize, but they don't lose): When the first sister answers to the question "Which colour are you wearing?", she has to answer the colour of the other one (it doesn't matter the colour of her own ribbon). Then, the other sister will answer the same, knowing that, in fact, that one IS the real colour of her own. That way, they get out of the marriage and get the necklace.

No you're forgetting to add the yearly raise. 185k year 1. At the end of year 1 you're getting a raise pushing you to 100k in the first 6 months. Totalling 205k for year 2. Then you're making 110k to 115k totalling 225k for year 3. It's weird the way it works but you're technically getting the 20k raise the only reason you're profiting is the very first 6 month raise

Salary is a rate of pay, typically defined over a yearly period for convenience. Salary is not how much money you end up with. To determine pay, we follow a very simple formula: R/N = P Where R is the rate of pay (salary), N is the number of pay periods, and P is the pay amount for that pay period. So in the video example, we can actually use any number of pay periods through the year as long as it is an even number and arrive at the same result. So for simplicity, we will do 2 pay periods per year. Company 1: First year: (180,000/2)+(180,000/2)= 180,000 Second year: (200,000/2)+(200,000/2)= 200,000 The pattern continues as we only get a raise each year. Company two: First year: (180,000/2)+(185,000/2)= 182,500 Second year: (190,000/2)+(195,000/2)= 192,250 You can keep doing the math and you will see that the only time that company 2 would actually pay more money is during the first year as it is the only one that gives a raise in the first year, but since company 1 gives a much larger raise they overtake company 2 at the first year and after that they become even more valuable than company 2 every succeeding year.

See guys dont overthink the Riddle no. 05...... Remember he only said that that Guerda manage to put Elsa in a safe position so that the marriage wont happen. It means it doesn't have to be the outcome that both guess the correct colours and take much as gold as they want. It also can be the outcome 2 where one guess the right answer and the winner will get a necklace and the looser wont get a penalty. Means outcome 2 is safe for Elsa if they do this. So the king said that there will be a gold and a red one and then Guerda talked things over with Elsa and agreed. So she said Elsa to say red and Guerda herself will tell gold or the opposite doesnt matter, the point is both have to say the opposite colours. For now lets say Elsa said red and Guerda said gold. So there can be 4 events the king might plan. 1. Gold/gold, 2. Gold/red, 3. Red/red, 4. Red/gold. So doesn't matter what the king choose Guerda's plan works in the end. Here's some of the alternate solutions I thought of for this one! 1. If we never caught him, we don't really know what he was thinking. He could have just thought of dropping some stuffed clothing with a parachute as a decoy to give him more time to escape. Either that or he wanted to leave the pilot with one if there truly was an explosive device on the plane! 2. The first company actually! The way you have it broken down looks like they're equal, except for company B paying out $5000 more each year, but that's because the payouts are split. Let's do the same for the first company - You get $90k the first 6 months, then $110k at the end of the first year - we can already tell that this adds up to $200k. Continue doing the math and you'll get an extra ten thousand dollars a year, just as simple math would have told you beforehand. Your answer with the 2nd riddle is flawed. It said that 20k per year not 10k per half a year. You just made your own rule out of the riddle. Since the pay off is annually, it will not accumulate every six months. The 20k increase will only accumulate annually not semi-annually. Maybe, the agreement of the first company is an annual pay off while the second one is semi-annual. The point is you're wrong with you stand.
