@jackielinde75685 жыл бұрын
I always had the idea that our ideas and perspectives of how time flows changes with age. Part of it being that as we experience more and more time, what we define as a short or long time changes. Your five year old self hasn't experienced much time, so the idea of how long a ten minute wait in line would feel like is very different from what your twenty year old or fifty year old self would experience. The ten minute window didn't change, but to a five year old, that window is a greater percentage of their time experienced than at twenty or fifty. The other half of it is that our minds are constantly rewriting our memory. Half of what we do doesn't even get logged into our long term memory. And what does is heavily edited. It's why you can't remember your 20 minute commute when you get to work without spending time trying to recall it, and a week from now you won't remember anything of the commute other than "you did it". You might remember that you did the ten minute wait and that it was boring, but you probably can't recall the specifics of it. So, combine both of those, and yes, your perspective on the flow of time is going to seem a lot quicker as you get older.
@tonymunn5 жыл бұрын

@lostbutfreesoul5 жыл бұрын
From my understanding, that one has been so misquoted it is meaningless. If I remember right, they where talking about a specific type of 'calculator' (pre computer) that weighed in excess of 30 tons. They projected that these systems, which used heavy vacuum tubes, would be seeing renovations that could eliminate much of that weight. The prediction wasn't that far off either, as the first calculators using the newer 'tube free' technology weighed... just a little over a ton! This is why context is important, for the prediction was talking about the 1960-70's era computer.

Prediction for the next decades: The way we produce food will develop into two distinct directions (technological and natural) and neither of them will look like today. The technological direction: - The vegan part of our food won't grow on farmland anymore but within huge factories using Aeroponics and Aquaponics (and the electricity for the light maybe, just maybe coming from fusion) edit: added link: www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/7/140717-japan-largest-indoor-plant-factory-food/ - Labgrown Meat - A lot of contributions will come from research done to build a sustainable Mars colony The natural direction: - A lot of Trees on Farmland (Agroforestry www.drawdown.org/solutions/food/tree-intercropping ) - Different regenerative Agriculture techniques, also traditional techniques like terra preta from ancient amazonian tribes: www.drawdown.org/solutions/food/biochar - Also: Cows in forests: www.drawdown.org/solutions/food/silvopasture - But also some technology like drones checking the health of the plants and gene editing The food produced by the second category will more expensive and seen as luxury. People will spend much time debating on which one is better. Especially on whether surface area should be "wasted" for food-production or not.

@@ChevTecGroup You paid taxes to subsidize the expansion of massive corporations. Take a company like Amazon for instance. They use public roads, airports, bridges ext... while closing 30% of local stores and malls and paying 0% taxes back into the system. Now if we can agree that they should pay taxes can we also agree that the revenue from those taxes would be better off in the hands of the citizens then used to fund a badly managed government program?
@ChevTecGroup5 жыл бұрын
@@gibblesbits8303 first of all, Amazon didn't close the stores and malls, the owners and managers of those stores did when the market changed and they couldn't keep up. Not that I completely agree with the tax situation, but to theor credit Amazon has also created thousands of jobs and billions in sales tax revenue. And I don't agree with paying taxes anywhere close to the percentages that we currently pay. Well at least that I currently pay as a middle class working family man. I also don't agree with giving people's earned money to others for the sake of "equality" or any sense of fairness. If you think the government is bad with our taxes, why not lessen the taxes in the first place rather than take then spread out to everyone? There will always be jobs, thinking otherwise is ridiculous. The jobs will just change as they have for the last few thousand years

You mentioned food being less nutrient today from soil erosion. The major factor is in fact not soil erosion but C02! Yes, the atmosphere has more CO2 now so the plants grow quicker (remember all carbon in plants come from the air) and as they grow quicker less nutrients are produced. One of the many many damaging effects of our fossil fuel gluttony!

You hinted at something that I do miss. When everyone used VHS in our daily lives. I still hav a few tapes I made too, but my mom used to record her soaps everyday and watch them when she got home from work. She even started only caring about certain story arches and fast forwarding thru the bits she didnt care about and would just set it up to tape over what she had previously watched. We would sit and talk as she did this while she ate dinner about an hour after my brother and I did on nights we didnt eat together if she worked late. Streaming means Im about the only person I kno that even still watches dvds much but I hold on to stuff like that for this very reason. Thanks for the platform to share a story like that Joe❣️Big fan
