5 Scary New Car Features We All Hate! A Fool is easily parted with their money. Someone who truly aspires to build wealth shouldn’t feel afraid to call out very blatant obvious money grabs. Pay to use your heated seats, even though your car already has heated seats. Pay a Yearly Subscription to use your Navigation System, even though it’s literally already installed in the car. Next thing you know, they’ll make it where your door won’t even open unless you insert 50 bucks into it. It’ll just have a Vending Machine Dollar inserter, or a Credit Card Reader. I bet you if it breaks, the dealership won’t fix it either, you’ll have to pay to fix it, to then pay to your use your car.
In the near future, Key Fobs will have 0 use anymore, other than to remind the buyer of the false pretense of owning the car, when in actuality, the car owns them. It’s just an agreement to rent out a vehicle that is truly owned by the Dealership and Manufacturer. I hope Kit Cars will still be legal in the future because if companies keep pre-installing these garbage features OR shove the subscriptions down our throat, then boy am I just going to build my own car at that point. You’d think all these simple shaped, boring looking kitchen appliances would be easier to fix, but they have a distinct lack of body panels. The Artists call this design clean, but to the Consumer it’s absolute hell. How do we fix our own dang car?

The direction car design is going is actually scary. Even just the aesthetic design. It’s a move towards a more corporate design, it basically reinforces the “ideal future” where people get up, go to work, and go home all with a smile on their faces. Aka: corporate drones

Yeah, it's literally corporate propaganda...I'm out ngl. 2-wheeled revolution. I guess what I don't understand is that this would make a lot more sense if the cars were much cheaper overall. Paying for navigation service makes sense. Mapping software isn't cheap to produce or maintain, not to mention, isn't really necessary. I consider it a luxury in my car because I like to have a live map but hate fiddling with my phone. As far as smartphone starting, does this "college educated" dude not use passwords? People always said “oH jUsT MaKe yOuR pAyMeNtS” neglecting the fact that this could be abused by bad actors trying to steal your car. This is not new. All it takes is for a problem intersection in your ZIP code. When I say problem, I am talking frequency, not severity, of accidents. Just moving a mile away can have a huge effect on your premium. But, the thing is, law of large numbers, the insurer has determined with quite a bit of accuracy the likelihood of you being in a crash. Remember, it doesn't have to be your fault in order for them to still be out money. And, the most basic principle of insurance is spread of risk. As such, everyone shares in everyone else's joy and misery. It's a fact of life. With respect to the telematics, I detest them and will pay more (really, forgo a discount) not to have them. What driving they deem risky (speeding, braking, accelerating, etc) doesn't necessarily mean it's unsafe. I do all of those things to extreme degrees and I can do them with a skill much greater than the person doing rolling stops at 5 mph. I voiced my displeasure with this when it was being test marketed (it was around mid-2000s), pointing this out. I also pointed out how the data collected could be used in ways that border on bad faith. While that ultimately did not dissuade them from implementing it, I at least tried to advocate for my clients. At least people still have the option.

When I bought my Ranger, I was subconsciously seeking to buy the most expensive and impressive car I could afford. Price wasn’t a factor when I decided to get a fusion, although it definitely made my decision much easier to make. I have buttons instead of a touch screen now and my driving assists feel like they aid in my efforts on the road rather than take them over while providing a false sense of security. If Tesla got even a bit of noticeable backlash for their subscription services, I doubt we would be seeing things progress the way they are. All the manufacturers saw people not care when Tesla started doing this, so they followed suit. The only thing fallacious about the slippery slope is the fact that some call it a fallacy. EDIT: on the car hacking side, if someone has physical access to a device, there's not much you can do to keep them from gaining control over it. This makes securing the nightmare that is modern vehicle software essentially impossible, it's more a matter of 'when' not 'if' someone obtains the know-how to get into the system and make it theirs.

This just makes me all the more appreciative how simple my car is compared to the majority of other modern cars. No paywalls to worry about, and the manufacturer even states in the owner's manual that they don't care what you do to the car. (Unlike EV's and other more gadget heavy cars). As long as OEM parts are used to modify the car, the warranty will stay intact. But otherwise go nuts.

@mo gamer The Mitsubishi Mirage. The owner's manual only discourages modifying the car or racing it for the sake of keeping the warranty intact (5 - 10yr warranty is pretty good after all) and general liability issues. Re-reading it, I accidentally exaggerated on the "actively stating" part. In comparison to the Nissan Rogue (using it as an example since it's the only other owner's manual I read), the owner's manual actively discourages the car owner from making ANY kind of performance modifications to the car in general.

These are some of the many reasons why I will always love older cars much more than modern stuff, and why I'm very glad to own an old car ('87 Starlet). Pretty much everything is mechanical, no computers or electronics involved in any part of it. Carburettor, manual steering, but also other things like changing where the air blows into the cabin; you actually feel parts moving around to guide the air. Always been a fan of simple mechanical engineering, and I'm also a fan of being able to actually fix stuff myself when (or should I say if) it breaks. Also helps a lot with weight, 730kg, which also makes it extremely cheap on road tax, and fuel efficient.

I do professional detailing (paint correction, ppf, ceramic) and new cars from the dealerships have some of the worst scratching in the clear coat of any cars we get, sometimes requiring a full three stage paint correction just because the dealerships use rough bristle brushes to clean the cars and ruining them in the process. And if buying a new car, NEVER get dealer installed ceramic coating. It’s not a true ceramic, just a paint sealer and will do nothing for your car and you’ll pay extra for it, spend the money and get it professionally done or watch KZbin videos and do it yourself with the proper product. Hope this helps somebody.
