I guess what I don't understand is that this would make a lot more sense if the cars were much cheaper overall. Paying for navigation service makes sense. Mapping software isn't cheap to produce or maintain, not to mention, isn't really necessary. I consider it a luxury in my car because I like to have a live map but hate fiddling with my phone. As far as smartphone starting, does this "college educated" dude not use passwords? One would have to unlock the phone AND the app. Last time I checked the most stolen csr in America ain't connected to shit.

The direction car design is going is actually scary. Even just the aesthetic design. It’s a move towards a more corporate design, it basically reinforces the “ideal future” where people get up, go to work, and go home all with a smile on their faces. Aka: corporate drones

This is not new. All it takes is for a problem intersection in your ZIP code. When I say problem, I am talking frequency, not severity, of accidents. Just moving a mile away can have a huge effect on your premium. But, the thing is, law of large numbers, the insurer has determined with quite a bit of accuracy the likelihood of you being in a crash. Remember, it doesn't have to be your fault in order for them to still be out money. And, the most basic principle of insurance is spread of risk. As such, everyone shares in everyone else's joy and misery. It's a fact of life. With respect to the telematics, I detest them and will pay more (really, forgo a discount) not to have them. What driving they deem risky (speeding, braking, accelerating, etc) doesn't necessarily mean it's unsafe. I do all of those things to extreme degrees and I can do them with a skill much greater than the person doing rolling stops at 5 mph. I voiced my displeasure with this when it was being test marketed (it was around mid-2000s), pointing this out. I also pointed out how the data collected could be used in ways that border on bad faith. While that ultimately did not dissuade them from implementing it, I at least tried to advocate for my clients. At least people still have the option.

I recently traded in a 2019 Ford Ranger XLT for a 2013 Ford Fusion SE, and personally feel this has been an improvement in every single way despite technically being a downgrade. When I bought my Ranger, I was subconsciously seeking to buy the most expensive and impressive car I could afford. Price wasn’t a factor when I decided to get a fusion, although it definitely made my decision much easier to make. I have buttons instead of a touch screen now and my driving assists feel like they aid in my efforts on the road rather than take them over while providing a false sense of security. I feel like we’re past the peak of technological advancements actually improving cars. At this point, manufacturers are only adding these “improvements” to increase profits

If Tesla got even a bit of noticeable backlash for their subscription services, I doubt we would be seeing things progress the way they are. All the manufacturers saw people not care when Tesla started doing this, so they followed suit. The only thing fallacious about the slippery slope is the fact that some call it a fallacy. EDIT: on the car hacking side, if someone has physical access to a device, there's not much you can do to keep them from gaining control over it. This makes securing the nightmare that is modern vehicle software essentially impossible, it's more a matter of 'when' not 'if' someone obtains the know-how to get into the system and make it theirs.

No paywalls to worry about, and the manufacturer even states in the owner's manual that they don't care what you do to the car. (Unlike EV's and other more gadget heavy cars). @mo gamer The Mitsubishi Mirage. The owner's manual only discourages modifying the car or racing it for the sake of keeping the warranty intact (5 - 10yr warranty is pretty good after all) and general liability issues. Re-reading it, I accidentally exaggerated on the "actively stating" part. In comparison to the Nissan Rogue (using it as an example since it's the only other owner's manual I read), the owner's manual actively discourages the car owner from making ANY kind of performance modifications to the car in general.

I do professional detailing (paint correction, ppf, ceramic) and new cars from the dealerships have some of the worst scratching in the clear coat of any cars we get, sometimes requiring a full three stage paint correction just because the dealerships use rough bristle brushes to clean the cars and ruining them in the process. And if buying a new car, NEVER get dealer installed ceramic coating. It’s not a true ceramic, just a paint sealer and will do nothing for your car and you’ll pay extra for it, spend the money and get it professionally done or watch KZbin videos and do it yourself with the proper product. Hope this helps somebody.
