Great tips there Christine 👍 I do actually follow most of them though I must confess I don't always iron the pattern pieces! Your point about hand tacking is an important one. I was trained in industrial methods which did not include hand tacking but, more and more, I rely on hand tacking - it doesn't take long and it allows me to sew with confidence. Thank you for putting this vlog together - really useful knowledge there.❤

Good morning Christine thank you for sharing these invaluable tips especially how to use the grainline.I must admit I am guilty of eyeballing this and you demonstrated perfectly how easy it is to do it properly.The collar tip too is a good one.I do like the dress you have on,you really suit that shade of blue.🌹🌹🌹

OMG thank u 🙏 so much for doing this blog I can NEVER understand the grain line & u have just sorted it for me in a couple of minutes 😁 matching the pocket I would never of thought of doing that 😁 but I don’t quite get the collar bit 🤔 when u say sew 3 stitches do you mean across sort of like [ shape but across the collar & if u did would that give ya a perfect point?? 🤔 I’m wanting to sew a wool jacket/coat for myself & I’ve never sewn a coat 🧥 before 😬 so it’s a bit daunting for me & cause wool fabric is so expensive 😲 I really wanna make a good job of it & don’t want it to look like a school girl has sewn it if ya no what I mean & yes I have learnt so much from ur videos over the years 😁 so a very big thank u Christine love Bev xxx

Great tips .. I couldn’t visualise the waistband one but not done one yet .. bindings I would do quilters way as have been making quilts for about 16 years. Thank you. Now to remember them ..

I always wonder why dressmakers don't do binding the quilter way!

Great tips! I haven't needed some of these yet, but I've saved this in my sewing playlist so I can reference it later. It's interesting, isn't it, that doing the 45 degree angle at the points gives you a better point than the sharper angle. That's the one tip I already knew.

snap 😂 I’ve saved it in my sewing list lol for the same reason 😁 they really are great tips aren’t they 😁 xx

Great tips, I’ve always done the grainline one but the top stitching one and stitching in the ditch are new to me. I don’t mind taking time to get a good finish. Definitely going to try those. Collar tip is great too. Thank you so much!

Morning Christine, I am so pleased with your vlogs. As a complete novice at garment making, these have been so inspirational and have made my understanding of patterns, fabrics and given me confidence to look at patterns and the ability to adapt them to what I actually want to end up with.Thank-you so much and carry on with the good work 😊

I do my binding the same way. I sew my collar and collar stand together before I put it on the shirt Thanks for the tip about drawiing the seam line on the collar. I only do one diagonal stitch in the corner. I like your tip better. Thanks for that.

I’d never thought of tracing the fabric print design onto a paper pocket piece. Good tip. On a collar piece corner, when you sew 3 stitches on the diagonal at the corner point do you shorten the stitch length?

Just would add for the grainline discussion, the fabric needs to be selvedge to selvedge. I often will pin them together along the selvedge, if I’m cutting two of them. Now you’re ready to measure from the selvedge along the grainline. FWIW

Your grainline advice is spot on, Christine. I'd also advise, if you're making jeans using denim, to be extra vigilant about measuring from the grainline and cut out on the single layer to avoid the dreaded twisted leg.

Thank you so much for those tips, I was wondering if possible to show tip # 4 for the collar point. Im quite new at sewing and having this difficulty with that but can't understand it well. Would you be able to show on a quick video ´how to do it" thank you! 😂

Addition to #1 - DON'T USE ANY STEAM! Steam will shrink the paper.

Thanks - great tips, do you have any for dealing with viscose selvedges - I find they are often wonky so matching the grainline can be tricky.

Addition to #2 - you should measure to your fold not the edge as the edge of the fabric is not always straight.
@stephwolski9053 ай бұрын
No, sorry, the fold can be anywhere, you have to measure from the selvedge.
