Thank you for being so kind and encouraging, that helps me to be even more enthusiastic and curious. Your Grandfather was right - we have to try :) I find that learning something new also keeps the sense of "wonder" in ones life. You know that feeling when we were kids and learned something mind boggling that we perhaps could not understand just yet? I find we loose that feeling as we get older, but I do get a spark of that whenever I try or learn something new.

@ThoughtfulCreativity5 ай бұрын
I actually really love this technique on my clothes, too, You will see it in the future videos (I did not want to show all of the future projects :) ) It is a nice way to add embroidery to a solid color, and just the way you want it. Yeah, I find that with foot or without does not really matter if you are working with a hoop, since the fabric is nicely stretched anyway. Thread sketching is so addictive and relaxing - just seeing thread and needle do their thing is quite relaxing :)

I am sure glad you told us you had been working on the technique for the last year. Because I was amazed by how fast you were sewing. LOL I would never have thought of going without a pressure foot. I just assumed you needed one.🤦♀ I am so excited to try this. Double hole needle!!!!! Who knew! The idea is too cool not to order some. Now I finally know what you used that variegated thread for. 😉 you showed it on a previous video and I thought it was so beautiful. Thanks for the video and the inspiration.
@ThoughtfulCreativity5 ай бұрын
Oh yes! I started by using just simple thread and embroidery thread I alreday had and then of course curiosity and creativity took over and I got my hand son variegated thread :) yeah, I started dabbling in it last year - I wish I could show eeeeevveeeerythign I work on, lol, wait until you see some block printed designs, as I got into that and lino carving too... oh, just so many things! Oh, there is also fabric etching on the way - that is mind blowing, too! If your fabric is stretched on the hoop - I find that I don't see a difference with or without a foot. I have also done this technique without a hoop and without a foot and it wasn't such a smooth sailing, but it was doable. Hoop also helps with keeping fabric from puckering as much.

Free motion embroidery is so much fun ! I sometimes do it on a double layer of wash away stabilizer, then when you soak it you're left with just your stitched design so that you can applique it on to your project. So many pretty decorative threads to use as well ! Thank you !
@ThoughtfulCreativity5 ай бұрын
You do 2 layers? I actually do it just on a single layer of water soluble fabric. I find that using organza and even netting (with stabilizer behind it) is also a lot of fun! And then... add a little bit of paint to it, even beads, sequins - ah, so much fun!
@ThoughtfulCreativity5 ай бұрын
You got me curious! :) I wonder if we are using 2 different types of stabilizer and also I wonder if 2 layers of stabilizer would leave more "sizing" in the design on purpose to then do "thread sculptures". I tried that with a little butterfly and then I propped while it was drying, so the wings would look like it is flying, and the butterfly has stiffness to it, but just not enough to hold the wings.
@stitchersdelight5 ай бұрын
I'll try one layer next time. Organza would be lovely ! I had a bad experience ( well, a learning moment )when I used 1 layer .. lol I use Sulky wash away.

I find that it just takes a little bit of practice, also using multiple color threads and shades helps with the dimension and the depth of the picture/design. Variegated thread does wonders when you want a simple design, but slightly different shades, that's what I did on the black blouse. If I can do it then You can totally do it! :)

I like the needles. I usually just thread two threads through the one needle eye to add thickness to the stitching and create a more raised looked or a two tone look. I will try these needles for sure though so thank you for showing them.
@ThoughtfulCreativity5 ай бұрын
If you'd like - try the triple straight stitch - it gives even bolder top stitching and that raised look with just one thread. Interestingly, I find that threading a regular needle with 2 threads skips less stitches when doing large embroidery stitches, vs when using a double eye needle. I wonder if that is because the bobbin does not catch the upper thread in the upper eye. I am glad you found this interesting :)

So pretty! I’ve done free motion quilting, which is pretty much the same thing as what you’re doing. Most of my vintage machines can drop the feed dogs, and I have darning feet for them as well, which won’t need a hoop, but I can see where it might be very helpful! My 1957 singer 401a & 1960 Singer 500a have the ability to take two needles side by side for twin needle sewing, so the technology is not new, but also not normal for modern machines.
