I strongly dislike the "you need to read X amount of books a year to be a true intelectual" kind of view. I read since I was 5 and the times I enjoyed reading the most were those where I had no pressure and was able to truly enjoy the stories that were being presented to me. Don't get me wrong, reading is amazing and greatly improves your writing, interpretation and thought process, but forcing others into fitting these standandards will probably just make reading feel like a chore.

Reading tips from an avid reader for people who REALLY want to read but fall into the procrastination pit and constantly feel demotivated: 1- Don’t pick up books that you think people will think you’re cool for reading, choose things that actually interest you. 2- Don’t plan on reading an entire ass chapter, begin reading, read as much as you don’t feel tired or if you do end up reaching the end of the chapter keep it to read later, helps keep yourself curious about what’ll happen next and prevents burnouts. 3- Understand that you WILL buy books that will make you bored and that you won’t like, so don’t force yourself to end the book, instead donate it or sell it to invest in one you’ll enjoy. If you force yourself to like it you’ll just end up associating reading with unpleasantry. 4- Keep the book you’re reading visible, and take it with you to public spaces. 5- Make a reading playlist. I recommend calm music, here’s my reading and calming Spotify playlist: open.spotify.com/playlist/5sxWqPGpuGihpAYkSeCZW5?si=ULAJuYEDT0a8VqRQTmAybg 6- Delete Twitter.

@@yugaeshthusyanthan330 lmao shut up. Nobody reads 60 entire books (like Harry Potter) a year. Most people are on the phone or computer. And I’m not talking books on 20 pages…

@@Adassity you clearly haven't met real readers. For any book lover, 60 books per year is laughable, even a little embarassing. I know people who finish atleast 2 books in a week. I am not sure what my own speed is because I don't really keep track but 60 seems like an incredibly easy number to reach in an year!

@@she_wizzdom4410 2 books on like what? 150 pages a piece? I'm talking about books with more like 400 pages each.

Stop reading so many books and actually read your comment before you post it. Sound pretty stupid to me if you're trying to brag about how many books you read and mispell while doing it.

"The average CEO does x" mindset is stopping people from becoming CEOs. Besides, reading became a meme at this point, so many idiots just think you need to read a fuckton of books to be an intellectual, while the miss the whole point of it.
@anthonyroyse99602 жыл бұрын
No no no the whole reason people become ceos are because they’re born into a life of privilege with rich parents who have connections and set them up so they never really have to work a day in their life

I average about 1-2 books a week sometimes 3 and i work roughly 50 hours a week sometimes more when i pick up shifts. But i read alot in my spare time. On all my breaks at work i typically flip through my book. When i go to the gym after my workout i go on the massage chairs and pull out my book for about 30 minutes. And an hour or 2 before i go to sleep. However i also rarely watch tv or play video games which is what alot of people do after theyre done work.

If you end up reading 60 books a year then I would question the quality of those books you read. Lets take Nietszche for example. It takes 5 minute to read a page to understand what he really says and if you mean to tell me that you finished his book in a day or two then you should know that it doesn’t counts as reading if you truly cannot understand what the book actually says.
