Man, I've worked on all of these things extensively with my pup, but he's one of the most willful dogs I've ever encountered. He was great as a little puppy but as soon as he hit the "teens" he became a menace. He's a rottweiler shepherd mix, so smart and strong, and he can definitely bully you to get his way if you aren't constantly asserting yourself with him. I'm just trying to stay consistent through the rest of his teens... he's a year and 2 months now, so just a little longer! According to the owners of his parents he's the most well trained out of his litter at least... that thought has me scared for the rest of them. Lol.

The recall is absolutely important even if you never intend to let the dog off leash. You need it if the dog ever gets out, or if there's an emergency and you need to call them away from wherever they are.

How would you recommend introducing family + friends to your new puppy to prevent over excited behavior & increase focus on you?

I've made real progress loose leash walking my puppy from watching your videos. He doesn't pull anymore, he tracks pretty well, even does an odd heal. When I tell him to heal he gets beside me and looks all focused and walks a bit of quicker pace, arrow straight lol. But he walks a full head in front of my knee. I don't know what to do about that.

SO TRUE!! 🤯 Thanks to your channel our Jack Russell is quite good on each of these. We have a sixth - your 'threshold management' technique has been a massive game changer too! Thank you so much! We are still working through doorbell and postman reactivity, but she is coming along nicely. Disclaimer: any deviation by the dog is absolutely entirely owner fault!

The walk is so basic, indeed. I’ve had three rescues & have been able to get all of them to heel. This fourth little guy, however, is a challenge. Perhaps it’s because it’s the first time I’ve had two dogs instead of just one? He was also severely anxious & avoidant, most likely abused. He just goes nuts at anything walking, running or biking by us. I love your videos & admire your skill!

We got a puppy and within the first 24hrs she went into my closet and came out with a fish hook in her mouth. Thankfully the vet didn’t have to put her under to remove it. It wasn’t stuck in her but she wouldn’t let us see or get it out of her mouth. I was so scared. But yes leave it is one of the first commands she was taught.

I hope I’m not the only one, but I can get all those down with my German Shepherd, except for heel.. it’s so beyond frustrating. We get about 5 steps and he’s wondering off a foot or so so I have to recall and use the treat (lamb liver) to lure him back in. Any tips?

I have a 4 month old Bernadoodle and he seems very disinterested in many things and really not toy driven or food driven. I have been focused on one command at a time so recently I am teaching him the sit command but man is he stubborn. Any advice?

How do you stop your dog from biting on the leash? I can’t even train him to heel because he just keeps biting the leash

You can give him his own leash while you have the real one or some dogs like to carry a toy, so sometimes just a soft toy in their mouth. Practice in the house first - different rooms, back yard, driveway , etc before taking it on the road. Depending on the size of the dog (difficult to find tiny metal leashes), sometimes a metal leash helps if the other suggestions don't. They usually don't want to bite the metal. Hope that helps.

Love your content but what's with you holding and putting down so many random things in these latest shorts? It always interests me seeing what marketing teams think they need to do to better hold people's attentions. Anyway, no hate at all, just thought it was funny.
