G T I made it so i never started taking my phone to bed in the first place, I read a book to clear my mind. My dad helps people mentally and every single time he tells them to meditate, so I would definitely recommend that it can make u a nicer person, nicer to urself and a better mental health in general. Hope u r doing well 💛💛💛

silvergreylion Good thought! Most of the positive studies regarding restorative sleep and magnesium have been in adults, however, it does promote the neurotransmitter GABA which we know has helpful properties. Neurologist (our medical cousins) will often start it for migraines

coked up girl scout Unfortunately, the data is mixed. I’ll include a link to a review article. Even when supplements are given the studies have been mixed on whether it works as well as what your own body produces. Certain types of tea (oolong), kefir, and leafy greens have been noted to increase GABA.

Are you taking a magnesium supplement? - if not, you should. A large part of most populations have some level of magnesium deficiency, and getting enough of it helps greatly with becoming sleepy. It's the element, which is part of the most enzymes in the body (when not deficient).

FOR REAL!!! I wish I could reach the 3rd stage of sleep and stage 4 would well...be a dream come true. I'm not able to get to sleep until my whole mind AND body are beyond tired, which takes 4-5 days, then I crash, in bed, for about 4 hours and then I'm back up until the next crash. Even with sleep meds, I still can't get to any real kind of sleep. and ya, I barely feel like a functional human, but it's not like I have a life or have any place to go, so whatever I guess.

@lagroad

Don’t need rocket science to guess the effects. 1) You may say things to people you don’t mean. Coming off warm and welcoming and then suddenly cold and rude. 2) You will have a hard time focusing at school. Due to feeling overwhelmed or perhaps like the work isn’t important. 3) While your partner understands your mood swings, they may slowly become worn down and begin to affect their mental health as well. 4) Mood swings can be a sign of major depression, bipolar depression, ADHD, schizophrenia, and in women, PMS or approaching menopause. 5) Things that may help mood swings: Practice stress relief techniques, Create and stick to a routine schedule, practice healthy sleep habits, avoid caffeine and alcohol and drugs, get in the habit of exercise and try to begin journaling your thoughts, and also try to get at least a bit of natural sunlight.

I realised the reason why I don’t just go to sleep at night, even when I’m obviously tired and could fall asleep, is because I get pretty stressed out and anxious about the next day. Like, I don’t want to wake up and go through another day, because the thought of it makes me tired. I know it sounds pretty depressing, but it’s really just me not having enough energy or willpower or strength to deal with life. So I basically procrastinate on sleeping. (Which only contributes to these problems ironically) I’m sure I’m not the only one?

This was very helpful and inspiring, thank you! (I say at 4:30am... 😅) It was presented in a way that was encouraging yet challenging in giving a reminder and evidence that sleep deprivation makes such a negative physical impact. I needed to hear this, and I hope I can quickly fix the bad habits I have fallen into. I know it will take time.

Yep, I've been saying this for years simply through my own experience of life. Last time I was sleep deprived was when I was living in student halls and I was only able to sleep a few hours at a time due to the noise. I lost a lot of weight, lost my appetite in general, started feeling agoraphobic as well as claustrophobic and in general my body was shutting down. Memory lapses were common and some people commented on the blank expression I sometimes had. Yep, not a nice experience but one I've had several times in my life. Which is why I now make it a priority to get sleep regardless of anything else.

I have a case of insomnia and depression so I typically only get about an hour's amount of sleep (worst part being is the fact I'm a teenager). Is there any advice you could give on how to get a nice snooze? I've already tried the stuff in the video. 😅 By the way I absolutely love your channel, you've helped me through so much. ❤

i used to have the weirdest sleep schedule during high school that worked out so well and i was having so many dreams and an actual working memory lol it was: go to bed at 12am, wake up at 5am, get home to nap from 3pm-6pm, rinse and repeat. Now as an adult though, i find it hard to sleep at all anymore and i usually go to bed at 5-6am and get up sometime in the afternoon between 2-3pm and every time i 'fix' this, it always reverts back to the same time lol

⭐It's all true.⭐ *I still remember that day that I was very stressed out and I couldn't sleep for three days and I felt so terrible. My mood was on a roller coaster, I looked like a monster , I started to hallucinate and even to start hearing voices that were not there "in my room or wherever I've been" before going to sleep, and my eyes were burning, ofc.* I don't get why there are people on KZbin that make weird videos like challenges such as *"STAYING AWAKE FOR 78 HOURS, WHAT?!"* or *"staying awake for 48 hours challenge,I went crazy"* or even *"we tried the 78 hours without sleep challenge and Jeff didn't make it"* And ect and ect... Like, why would you do that to you? Do you find it funny? One thing is not be able to sleep for three days for real, another is to do a stupid challenge where you try not to sleep and kill your brain. *Not sleeping for three days, or even more, it's not good for your health, mostly if you're doing that on purpose. I can even proove it and it was terrifying. People find it cool, I mean, you don't sleep, and for some it seems to be cool, but it isn't. After a few hours you start to hear voice and see things and then it gets worse and worse, and even more creepy.* Don't do that to yourself and mostly.... *Take care of your health.* ❤️☕

Ever since I found out about ASMR I've hardly had trouble sleeping. Before I'd be laid awake up to 2 hours trying to fall asleep, nowadays while listening to ASMR it takes anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes (depends on mental state when laying down to sleep). It's truly a mystery how it feels so relaxing!

I have pretty severe sleep apnea and have honestly never had a truly restful sleep. I have multiple mental illnesses physical, disabilities and fibromyalgia/chronic all over body pain 24/7. Been this way my whole life, I'm 22 now. Because of my sleep apnea I dont get enough oxygen to my brain and I don't get proper sleep. I stop breathing a lot while I sleep and it carries over and causes issues during the day. I also have exercise induced asthma so that makes it all even worse. This definitely makes a lot of my problems worse and intensifies a lot of health problems. Due to covid I cant do the surgery I need but good news is there's a surgery that could help a lot and I'm looking into oxygen therapy. All these things in this video are very real and if you chronically get bad sleep because of medical issues it's really serious. I'm lucky I'm still breathing. Take advantage of good sleep if you have the ability I'd give anything for that and it's very important for your health.

For years I said that high school should start later than Elementary school. My daughter leaves at 6:40 in the morning, and school starts at 7:30 there is an abundance of traffic at our wonderful A+ school but there are 5,000 students there.. younger kids need Aftercare and before care when they get dropped off in the older kids don't need that and they are up late working doing homework at sporting events and games at practice, it just makes sense

I've had insomnia basically my whole life. An average night I get less than 6 hours of sleep. So for me, sleep deprivation is three or less hours. I can function mostly normally for two days with less sleep (the only difference is an upbeat mood the first day), but three days and I start feeling foggy, fatigued and an inability to communicate clearly

It's harder to sleep well then to eat healthy because we can eat healthy all day long whereas we only have 1 chance to sleep well through the night. So to improve health we should give more focus on our sleep rather than an exclusive focus on our diet ;)
