@Marisol M WARNING: [Please if you prefer understanding what I said and making sure your not misinterpreting what I said please read the entire comment or read it twice to make sure. Since this is a pretty long comment.] Or it means the person has self doubt because they are self aware of their lack of intellect. Or it's the other way around since just, because ones intelligent doesn't mean they are good at self awareness. If one doubts their intellect it's, because they know their intellectual flaws so they assume they aren't that intelligent. If one lacks self awareness, but is intelligent they may doubt their intellect, because they don't want to make assumptions about themselves when they don't know much about themselves. After all most intelligent people tend to do to much learning about THINGS rather than PEOPLE. So they might not be that self aware about themselves. Since weirdly enough learning more about others helps one learn more about themselves. So if you don't do enough socialising you won't understand yourself that well. Unless you do constant self reflection, which I am not 100% sure that would always work out for a person. Since you need more than self reflection to help understand yourself. Since you need to be able to look at other perspectives to further your understanding of yourself. Therefore you still need social interaction. Since most intelligent people are introverted or socially awkward this generally causes problems with the person's self awareness. Though this is not taking into account other things that might be able to by pass all that. Another thing to consider is that this video lists traits that MOST intelligent people have. Their is bound to be abnormality. Like extravert geniuses do exist. There is also the fact that plenty of people have these traits that are listed in the video, but are not geniuses. Most geniuses are introverts, but most introverts are not geniuses.

@Marisol M This is not true. Highly intelligent people rarely lack confidence in their general intelligence, instead they lack confidence in any specific opinion. Understanding that hidden facets of a construct can radically change ones understanding and opinion. Highly intelligent people see and and understand that that any equation which represents a real life phenomenon is going to be immensely complex making high levels of confidence in any specific model irrational.

omg... I totally relate to that.... I don't have many friends and I feel very guilty at the fact I'm too selective about people. Honestly, having to know more things than others is a real curse. There are some times I think of this as a curse because no one understands you at all, and it's hard to state all of your thoughts out loud, because there are too many of them. I wish I had OP ways of speaking and I wish I could think less carefully about what I'm about to say. Heck, I'm thinking about what I should say not to be offensive or degrading in anyway right now. Honestly, people out there who want to know more... Sometimes, knowledge is a curse that makes you very, very, very depressed. (once you know how the world and people are, you truly value wholesome moments for what they are)

Indeed. The key with intelligence is, I’ve found, to not let one’s questioning get so far that one begins to second guess and onverthink too far, but to not let it be so low one blindly or impulsively goes along with anything. Being smart means being questioning, and questioning tends to turn on oneself at times, leading one to impostor syndrome and the like. Whereas the Dunning-Kruger effect runs rampant in some parts.

There are different fields of "highly intelligent". If the IQ is not for you, try the EQ - Emotional Intelligence Quotient. It's more rewarding, anyway. And if that's not for you, you'll find something. Or you create something. Your choice.

I know I've always been a highly intelligent person, and a lot of the social issues described in points 1-5 I definitely struggled with as a kid. However, I'm older now and people have described me as a social butterfly. My emotional intelligence has skyrocketed in the last 2-3 years from journaling, and paying more attention to my feelings (perhaps too much (paralysis by analysis lol)). Anyway, don't think that you need to be socially awkward to be smart because you can be smart and outgoing at the same time! Don't put yourself in a box!

Even if you know no one expexts you to never make mistakes. I guess its possible to overcome that but its hard.

I would say that as soon as I speak of my ideas relating to science and philosophy and human constructs like marriage my friends who are always judging people and relaying useless information about how much they remember from the past and where they have been, they seem to be annoyed with me that I don't remember those things or I say I try not to judge people. I have begun to realise as I get older that I live in this 24 hours because this is all we have and I've wasted so much of my life in the company of people who just have good memory's for people's lives they have come across, hey ho thanks for this,

@Fallon Waye you can find happiness- before you find awareness. If you're not aware you arent aware of who knows what, whats not to be happy about? Life would be exceedingly more simple and easy to understand. And how can you truly feel entitled to tell someone else their happiness is wrong or incorrect? I think i just argued in defense of science deniers but 🤷
@solonada9602
@solonada9602 3 жыл бұрын
The connotations of ignorance are always negative. Even if ignorant people tend to be happier, it doesn't mean that their lifestyle is more practical than the one of those who are aware of the harsh side of the world. The more knowledge you accumulate, the more benefits it rewards - because with more knowledge, navigating around the world becomes easier; your life becomes generally better. It is better to search for the flaws of something, rather than only watching its positive side.

Your explanation on the struggles of intelligent people is amazingly good. I appreciated when you said they are also people and they can feel alone and disconnected. It gives me joy to see that someone understands this or has gone through the same experience. It feels like a blank space or something like a void which remains surrounded by darkness when you are disconnected but gives you so much time to do other things which are actually important so it's not so bad living alone all the time I guess. Sometimes you get but heyy who doesn't? We are all humans in the end. We experience the same emotions, desires, taste, and feelings. Yet we fight each other all the time. I guess having a lot of things in common between each other among people and people failing again and again to recognise this fact always keeps them in conflict to never be able to form a good picture of the world around us. Actually I can keep on going I am getting too tired to write so, congratulations to those who made it till the end. Lol

It's a good description of a highly intelligent person who happens to be an analytical introvert with social anxiety, it's also a good description of an analytical introvert with social anxiety that has a normal or even below average level of intelligence. This is far from the only archetype for intelligence.

I would say that there is truth to this, but not from every angle ;) I can only talk about research in Germany, but look up Prof. Rost and his research on giftedness. It is a huge, ongoing research project on the development of gifted children (defined as IQ of 130 or more) and found, among other things, that giftedness is a contributing factor of resilience. Many gifted children are better adjusted, better at making friends and less likely to be thrown off balance emotionally than their peers. The struggles described in this video, however, do exist as well

I feel you. Average just seems so much preferable. It is okay to excel in different areas from those around you. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, you are more like those around you than you realize. Also, it really helps to have some people you can talk about the new ideas and topics you are learning about, it helps relieve the pressure of unsaid words, of how much you need to share or gush about the cool new things you have learned. People who share this are harder to find, but they *are* out there, you just need to figure out where to look. Do not give up, you have peers, others who are also like this, and we need you as much as you need us.

-Ignore your parents unless it's productive criticism and almost nobody will understand you because they're incapable of understanding your complexity (try working on conveying your ideas in ways they can understand/speak their language not to cater but to help them see where you're coming from/it helps to present what you are currently doing). Parents of previous generations are ignorant of the highly competitive and rapidly ever-changing world we live in today (they believe everything that they've done was solely by their merit and not by the better circumstance or simplicity in which the world was in before and yes given most circumstances before the world became connected and most work has become outsourced to foreigners of any other country for better performance, cheaper labor, or both/markets change faster than seasons as well as the tools and methods that revolutionize them and require constant learning to keep up with/not to mention that the learning many people receive is outdated and insufficient and over priced to the point of life long crippling debt but necessary for a piece of paper that says you did said futile education). The 9-5 out of school jobs they were used to are not enough. Instead, we'll be working harder just to maintain old standards of living. -Average people will bore you but I understand the loneliness. Find a hobby in which you can connect with average people (unless you become too good at it/they don't like getting dominated/maybe a competitive team of some sort or have rivals to compete against). Overall, I believe it is our burden to perform at higher levels just to reach people of our own capacity. As to how high you climb is decided by your capacity. Personally, I'd advise avoiding analysis-paralysis, you stay alone trapped in your countless indecisions and what ifs like a prison in the mind. Explore your interests no matter the cost and take baby steps if needed.

@@birdgirlredfire_dragon3064 Where do you find such accepting people? In terms of finding like minded people, I believe what is true about depressed people is the same with the intelligent. When surveying normal people, they tend to all agree on the same ideas but with depressed people, they each have their own individual ideas or perceptions. So no two depressed people can really relate or agree with each other on said ideas. Maybe intelligent people are the same being very particular in their area of expertise and even within their area they have different methods and ideas (and they can all be correct and still disagree). There haven't been many geniuses that work well with others and if they did, they merely used them. If two geniuses find each other, it'll most likely end up a battle of wits or an argument within the assignment. It also doesn't help that some of the brightest minds have gone mad or suffered mental illness. Just a connection and not a correlation though. There's a substantial connection between having higher IQ and mental disorder, however, circumstance and inborn qualities that are deemed unacceptable for society may dictate if it occurs (just more susceptible given their intelligence). Society tends to put these people down in a dismissive and avoidant way (not as painted in the 80's as the stereotypical nerd/it's the lack of connection and understanding to our condition) so I believe there are more dysfunctional ones. Put in a bad environment, you could turn out to be a troubled individual given the lack of reassurance and limited to destructive exploration, or the opposite. I find myself leaning on the fence of both hating the world and wanting to help it. To the people around me, I've solved/mitigated their problems but then resent me for it and at the same time I never really understood them as humans (apparently). What is wrong and what do they want?

(burp) Moooorty . tbh a smart person shouldn't have a hard time communicating with anyone because they're smart enough to recognize how other people communicate and match their level effectively. The "smart people hate small talk" thing immediately throws me off because small talk is a great way to get to know someone and communicate with very low stakes. To imply that "smart people" only want to talk about high-concept, complicated shit is stupid. I love debate and media analysis and high-concept stuff, but it gets exhausting. Talking about the weather or a something "unimportant" is easy. It's like saying "talented baseball players don't want to just play catch" or something. Of course they do. Shoot.

M-K-L i don‘t agree with that statement. Actually, highly intelligent people have a hard time communicating with other people, because they usually have other mannerisms and interests. Tinker Belle “gifted students are bullied in school” is exactly the kind of generalization that causes this misunderstanding. It isn’t even necessarily accurate. As a socially anxious gifted student who was never bullied in school, I feel the need to voice that this correlation between intelligence and social ineptitude is complete bologna. There are confident smarties. There are shy dummies. It’s never as black and white as many like to think.

I have noticed this, myself. I try my best to stay optimistic, but sometimes I just get pessimistic and think the world is just a repetitive pattern of people making the same mistakes over and over and there is nothing I can do to change it. Then I stop to think: "I CAN". Every little bit helps. Giving just a little bit of hope to another person can already mean the world to someone. So that is what I do, now. We can't really tell the difference between "stupid" and "pointless". "Stupid" things are idiotic things that could appeal to the average Joe since it's something weird and wild, which is interesting. "Pointless" things are boring and unappealing things. Imagine just being sociable, intelligent, nice, funny and confident person - then you go to school and the enviroment kills your personality, you become depressed, anxious, tired kid with self image issues :(

Applying myself with my leaning style outside I did manage uni 2017 top 5% in engineering since 1990. My point: just becuse u do not fit in nore can you adjust to the scocial pressures this doesn't mean you aren’t intelligent or capable. Everyone learns differently, and the traditional school system doesn’t always recognize unique strengths. Struggling in school doesn’t define your potential-finding your own way to learn and grow does. Keep pushing forward, because your value isn’t measured by grades, but by your perseverance and passion!

@@Yani_Ya My father is a highly intelligent person who I actually consider to be narcissistic. I on the other hand am overly empathetic and am considered, at least by the military, to be highly gifted enough to have any job I wanted. But me underestimating my ability chose carpentry and masonry. I even during placement accidently tanked an exam to be in linguistics. Meaning half way through I got impatient, thinking I was all wrong, just randomly filled in the rest of the blanks. When turned in and compared to the charts I found I was all right up until that point. Thereby failing the test and not being considered for the job. This was all done at the eighteen year old level when I was 32. At a time when plasticity had become a thing of the past for me, or at least I thought it was.

@@casinogiant I didn't really get the last few sentences (sry English isn't my first language) but the smarter u are, the bigger the increase in empathy is. And the opposite too. I mean that u become more and more sociopathic without being a sociopath. And u do both at the same time which is actually quite funny. Ur "empathy and non-empathy levels" increase at the same rate. Which one u pick depends on ur surroundings although u can switch between the two multiple times in ur life. I must say that I am not a psychologist or something like that. This is just what I've noticed.

Why would you hope for that ? We want people to think they are intelligent and we want them to be incorrect but think they are correct this makes it easier for us actual intelligent people who suffer these drones daily the opportunity to utilise these NPC characters to our benefit and make profits and build and innovate while they are distracted by things that we imply or teach them is important or is worth something , happiness for example , they think they need this or that it’s actually real or something that can be attained lol , the clever part is you just dangle something and say this will make you happy or show them another drone claiming to be happy and get them to smile because we told them smiling means happy , and boom they buy it , but it’s a double edged sword see even though happiness is just a concept and not a tangible proven or sustainable thing or feeling that doesn’t mean it can’t be attained. If they believe this house or car or clothes will make them happy then they will make themselves happy to the best their brain can be it , now this doesn’t last long because humans are better at suffering and hardship and adversity it’s why our species is the dominant species we are worse than cockroaches, you can try and drown and your body will automatically try to survive even better example is a drowning person will drown another person in order to survive without even thinking twice the instincts just kick in and it’s auto mode . So what we do is we let purchase our happy products then we get their influences to demonstrate they don’t bring happiness anymore which they don’t for long anyways because being happy is boring . Best idea was a pandemic , i didn’t buy into the danger of it but u thrived i the fear of society , watching these idiots buy all the toilet paper and show the true nature of humans when it’s do or die they always pick themselves over others it’s only later they will be kind to others and share things etc onl after they have seen someone else do it which is why they panic buying stupid shit in the first place , I could go on forever but I forgot what I was talking about because I’m looking at my memories of these idiots haha omg but yeah don’t go educating people please I need them dumb so I can exploit them , cheers

Oh my.get you totally.im so frustrated when someone falls silent when I'm voicing my opinion. my daughters always say I'm over reacting and that I'm weird. My partner always makes remarks to the point where I can see him trying to prove his intelligence in a quite understated and sarcastic way. I really wish he wouldn't. He is a clever logical man. I wish people would realise that intelligence cannot be measured. I am more abstract clever and he is more logic.but I do tend to find that the logic sensory minded seem to be more it ignorant than us abstract initiatives.

About the "socially awkward" thing: The core problem is the continuous awareness of the perception other people are likely having on you. Meaning you consider your words or actions including how others would perceive it and possibly alter their views about you. And you want to control that process. Plus you have to evaluate the risk of possibly messing up - if you want to tell a joke, you have to consider what happens if you fail (a stutter, making mistakes, bad narration). You could look foolish and draw negative attention. And if you try anyway and fail, you are immediately aware of what people would possibly think about it and you, and are also likely occupied with trying to check what people express in mimic. It's a continuous evaluation of the situation that can draw too much of your focus, making things worse. This is one reason why the level of how talkative I am drastically goes down as more people are around, with the ideal amount being 1.
